Mizzou blows out Florida, Florida blows out Ole Miss, Ole Miss beats LSU, Miss St beats Mizzou, Alabama blows out Miss St

I’m so confused by the SEC right now

572

u/bruhstevenson UCLA Bruins • Team Chaos 14d ago

I think (at least as of right now) there’s a top tier of Bama, Georgia, and Texas, and then there’s a huge middle tier

181

u/Gottatrytho Notre Dame • Illinois State 14d ago

Who makes the SEC title game?

Georgia vs. Alabama? (Again) Georgia vs. Texas? (Again) Georgia vs. LSU? (As they tend to do)

227

u/CapeClipper Arizona Wildcats • Missouri Tigers 14d ago

Texas vs. Georgia/Bama winner most likely since Texas avoids both.

65

u/NA_Faker Texas Longhorns • Wisconsin Badgers 14d ago

Idk, we have a brutal schedule. We may not make it out undefeated. Our only 3 unranked matchups left are all rivalry games.

5

u/j01101111sh Nebraska Cornhuskers • Billable Hours 14d ago

The subtle shade of including that your rivals are all having down years was very well done.

30

u/TeeDeeTeeEcks Texas Longhorns 14d ago

Everyone kind of has a brutal schedule SEC except maybe Georgia. Ours is just slightly more brutal than everyone else's.

We get to play Arky, A&M and OU - arguably three of the worst teams in the conference

13

u/ddtink Army Black Knights • Georgia Bulldogs 14d ago

At Alabama, at ole miss, and Florida in Atlanta isn’t brutal? What are you on about

25

u/TeeDeeTeeEcks Texas Longhorns 14d ago edited 14d ago

You get Auburn, SC, Vandy, Arkansas and you also get to play Mizzou at home. That's a lot of winnable games compared to the rest of the contenders' schedules. That is definitely one of the easier SEC schedules this year. Almost everyone else in the SEC has at least one or two more 'hard' games than Georgia does.

28

u/westonverhulst 14d ago edited 14d ago

Georgia also benefits from not having to play Georgia.

-4

u/TeeDeeTeeEcks Texas Longhorns 14d ago

Sure. They still play too many gimme games compared to the other contenders.

7

u/TonyTheSnowman Texas Longhorns 14d ago

You definitely have tough games. I think it's more so that you face what looks like the weakest sec teams, atm. Arky, Ou. Auburn, usc, and vandy. You didn't get the benefit of the doubt of being at home against the good teams you face, though. Still so much time left to really call anything. Y'all still have probably looked the best of anyone.

3

u/palisades25 Georgia Bulldogs 14d ago

Y’all’s isn’t terrible you avoid Georgia and Alabama. I think most Uga fans would rather have your schedule bc you don’t go to Alabama.

Not sure you can call any sec schedule this year easy.

3

u/TonyTheSnowman Texas Longhorns 14d ago

I never said easy. Yes for y'all specifically because bama is the only sec team to consistently give you trouble in recent years. There's still so many games left. Idk if anyone could accurately predict who would finish 6-12

2

u/lebesgueintegral Texas Longhorns • Stanford Cardinal 14d ago

Certainly less brutal relatively than OU or Texas tbh.

4

u/NA_Faker Texas Longhorns • Wisconsin Badgers 14d ago

Of our 8 remaining games we have 5 ranked matchups and the 3 non ranked matchups are rivalry games. Our "easiest" games are going to be against A&M, OU, and Arkansas, 3 teams that will give their all to beat us.

4

u/DrVonD Georgia Bulldogs 14d ago

OU and Arkansas both look absolutely terrible. I know it’s a rivalry, but those are bad football teams.

1

u/AppropriateCompany9 Tennessee Volunteers • Texas Longhorns 14d ago

Also no one in non-con play.

3

u/AppropriateCompany9 Tennessee Volunteers • Texas Longhorns 14d ago

We don’t really need to go undefeated (although that’s looking more possible by the day, imo) to make the SEC champ game.

5

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 14d ago

Texas avoids both UGA/Bama? How in the world does that happen?

4

u/fthisstupidapp 14d ago

Let’s not act like the Texas schedule is easy because it doesn’t have Bama/Georgia on it.

5

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 14d ago

No SEC schedule is easy. But avoiding the 2 best teams is definitely worth noting

0

u/fthisstupidapp 13d ago

Your comment wasn’t about all SEC teams. Your comment was implying that Texas has a weak schedule when in reality, they have either the hardest SOS or the second hardest depending on your source.

2

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 13d ago

My comment is based on the fact that Texas is the only SEC team that avoids the two SEC perennial powers.

Again, every SEC schedule is hard. But avoiding arguably the 2 toughest teams is certainly a blessing.

1

u/fthisstupidapp 13d ago

And my comment is based on the fact that the schedule more than makes up for it, hence the multiple sources that put Texas as 1 or 2 in SOS.

3

u/teshh Georgia Bulldogs 14d ago

Texas schedule has a brutal stretch, I don't think they win out. They're definitely going to drop a game.

54

u/BabyBearBjorns LSU Tigers • Tulane Green Wave 14d ago edited 14d ago

I'll break it down for you.

Georgia vs Bama next week. Winner is strong candidate to play in SECC. Now you get into the following...

Texas plays in SECC if they win out.

The loser of Georgia or Bama must win out and most likely needs LSU, Ole Miss, or Florida to upset Texas to have a chance.

LSU must beat both Texas and Bama in November and not lose to another opponent to get in.

Every other 1 loss SEC team must win out (which will involve beating one of, if not a combo of Bama, Texas, Georgia, and LSU).

5

u/Gottatrytho Notre Dame • Illinois State 14d ago

No i know that. I was asking for takes lol

1

u/STTDB_69420 14d ago

It’s not like the odds are small of Texas losing to LSU/Ole Miss/Florida

1

u/TizzleBizzle2627 Florida Gators 7d ago

I could see us beating Georgia and Texas by hand if God but losing to Kentucky and Vandy the following weeks

5

u/Inconceivable76 Ohio State • Arizona State 14d ago

Na. LSU is going to lose some games.

4

u/Gottatrytho Notre Dame • Illinois State 14d ago

If LSU makes it UGA makes it. Always.

5

u/Pactae_1129 LSU Tigers • Mississippi State Bulldogs 14d ago

And it’ll be a complete blowout either way, as is our love language.

1

u/Gottatrytho Notre Dame • Illinois State 13d ago

At least its not Alabama-Florida round 74 lol

2

u/thekingsteve UAB Blazers • Auburn Tigers 14d ago

Vandy surprises everyone and makes it to the game. Or it's mizzou vs Texas .

Idk I got nothing

43

u/Relevant_Elk_9176 Alabama Crimson Tide 14d ago

So essentially the same thing as the last 6 years or so

3

u/BuffaloAcrobatic2851 Georgia Bulldogs 14d ago

As it should be. Can’t tell me you’re sick of seeing us on the opposite sideline in Atlanta

9

u/Redeem123 Team Chaos • Texas Longhorns 14d ago

Hey I like you.

4

u/MannerSuperb Georgia Bulldogs 14d ago

Talent wise I truly think LSU is in that top tier. They’ve looked like a top 10 team outside of the first half vs ole Miss

1

u/bruhstevenson UCLA Bruins • Team Chaos 14d ago

They can absolutely be that. I just need to see more data in the form of more games.

8

u/Revolutionary_Jump_9 Alabama Crimson Tide • Missouri Tigers 14d ago

I think that’s about right. I’m still not convinced there’s a huge separation between the top 3 you listed though

3

u/Fletch71011 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 14d ago

Most of the advanced models have it as Georgia/Texas near each other, gap and then Alabama, gap and then LSU, and then gap + everyone else.

0

u/lebesgueintegral Texas Longhorns • Stanford Cardinal 14d ago

After today I’m not so sure. I would say UGA and Bama edge Texas out. They have very convincing wins

1

u/Some-Unique-Name Georgia Bulldogs • James Madison Dukes 13d ago

Georgia ain't play nobody, Pawl!

But seriously, as closely as I watch Georgia games, I haven't been impressed. I still don't think this team is natty caliber, but I hope to be proven wrong.

1

u/lebesgueintegral Texas Longhorns • Stanford Cardinal 13d ago

It’s still early, and to your point, they haven’t had a chance to prove themselves yet. But everything I’ve seen looks pretty damn good.

I wouldn’t call Texas’s OSU win convincing per se. we did beat OSU, which is an impressive feat, but I feel like they lost it more than we won it.

Tenn game was so sloppy. Though I thought Simmons and his celly were awesome/hilarious

7

u/rterri3 LSU Tigers • Team Chaos 14d ago

I really don't feel like Texas is that good... I mean, their defense is great but the offense is just OK.

2

u/bruhstevenson UCLA Bruins • Team Chaos 14d ago

I would agree based off eye test, but we will see. That defense is good enough to win them games potentially, but I just really am not sold on Arch as a great QB at all anymore.

2

u/Life_Act_6887 Texas Longhorns • Duke Blue Devils 14d ago

Crazy thought: maybe if you play good defenses like Ohio State and Tennessee (Jim Knowles) your offense will look worse based on the ‘eye test’ than teams who haven’t

1

u/utb040713 Texas Longhorns • Maryland Terrapins 14d ago

I can't say I totally disagree. When the offense gets in a rhythm it looks elite. But when it stalls, it stalls hard.

2

u/SirMellencamp Alabama Crimson Tide • SEC 14d ago

3

u/jmastaock Georgia Bulldogs • Team Chaos 14d ago

Bro shut up we haven't played anyone lol

Rat poison

1

u/Shepboyardee12 West Virginia Mountaineers 14d ago

Yep it seems 3 top teams, 3 or 4 bad teams at the bottom, then everyone else in a big pile in the middle beating the shit out of each other.

1

u/catsfanuk87 Kentucky Wildcats 14d ago

This is correct. Texas/Bama/Georgia in some order, then 9 other teams that could win or lose to each other on any given Saturday, then Auburn/South Carolina, then Vandy/Arkansas.

1

u/TripleThreatTua Arkansas Razorbacks 14d ago

I think Tennessee is in the very good category but not quite there with the rest

1

u/Coledaddy16 Tennessee Volunteers 14d ago

Tennessee seemed to have possibly found a qb who can at least make the defense honest to their amazing running game. They just made Auburns very fast front defense pay the price against their best RB Bishop.

1

u/Coledaddy16 Tennessee Volunteers 14d ago

Georgias schedule has turned into a very cupcake of SEC teams. We'll see if Georgie is actually any good next week.

1

u/Impossible-Flight250 Maryland Terrapins • Towson Tigers 14d ago

Georgia has really looked like the top dogs. Texas has a better resume, but Georgia just looks insane.

0

u/Toad-in-a-hole Florida Gators 14d ago

Idk man. Vandy hanging with UGA doesn’t convince me they are top tier.

1

u/Some-Unique-Name Georgia Bulldogs • James Madison Dukes 13d ago

Would you say Florida hung with Mizzou? It was 17-10 at near halftime, similar to the Vandy game.

1

u/Toad-in-a-hole Florida Gators 13d ago

Absolutely not. They dominated us in every aspect of the game. We were lucky to only be down by 10 at halftime

0

u/VegetableTour6790 Oklahoma State Cowboys 14d ago

Then there is OU

0

u/Gullible_Classroom71 Alabama Crimson Tide 14d ago

Tbh i haven't been impressed by texas. I know they beat ohio state but I more wonder if that game was more osu blowing it rather than texas winning it.

0

u/RenfrowsGrapes San Diego State Aztecs 14d ago

Idk if Texas deserves to be up there with bama and Georgia

0

u/detroitlonghorn Texas Longhorns 14d ago

Well actually they’re better than both. That’s why they’re ranked #1

All this just for another UGA vs Bama SEC Championship as we all predicted

41

u/katarh Georgia Bulldogs • /r/CFB Donor 14d ago

Georgia gonna go 10-2 just to avoid that scenario

25

u/blackravenclaw Georgia Bulldogs • SEC 14d ago

We’ll go 10-2, stumble ass backwards into the SECCG, win our third straight, then lose due to the playoff bye again lol

6

u/randomthrowaway9796 Georgia Bulldogs 14d ago

I know things have a way of working in our favor of making the SECCG, but i just don't see how we lose 2 SEC games and make it into that game this year.

I also think we'll probably only lose 1 game this regular season. Probably Bama, and if not them, either Ole Miss or Fl*rida (please please please dont let it be the latter Kirby)

6

u/the_D1CKENS Alabama • Jacksonville State 14d ago

Kamario was in a boot yesterday and had a 100 degree fever / the flu and was throwing up in a blue medical tent, had to leave game for an IV in the fourth. (Trust me that kid would not have come off the field willingly - he was gonna try to keep going as much as possible).

Fluff Bothwell was injured against Mizzou and played one carry today - looked so tentative they immediately yanked him cause it was clear he wasn't good.

Got a bye week next week thank god. Yea bama is bama and has our number, but we have as much of an excuse as anyone for our loss.

Ole Miss' win over LSU is propping up a lot of middling SEC teams. I still think LSU could be good but I think Alabama, Georgia, and Texas are likely the only real national contenders in the conference.

u/Ironredhornet Michigan State • Saginaw V… 14d ago

Georgia is basically the conference Northstar to right now while everyone settles around them. They maybe beaten later on and be surpassed by a Texas or Bama, but they are the most consistent on both sides for the time being. Bama has had some slow starts they seem to be ironing out, normal given the younger qb, and Texas has a fearsome defense and an offense that has a lot of questions at the moment. Others may likely pop in as things settle but thats how I see it at the moment.

I can make a little sense of it for you…

You can’t apply sense or reason to LSU and Ole Miss, that game was all emotion. I do think LSU is being a little overhyped with their first year coach that has always had trouble winning big emotional games.

After that game Ole Miss was emotionally drained and missing their star running back going to play Florida in the swamp.

Florida blew out an Ole Miss team that had a lot of hype after their emotional win. Florida got a little big for their britches and strolled into an away game against another two sided home/away team.

Missouri just straight up lost to Miss St. They’re both good teams.

Alabama is Alabama. Wether they are this good or not, they have decades of winning culture that can be hard to break for a team trying to get their mojo back.
