Take away Indiana's 4 big plays and it might have been a shutout.

Make our FG and it's tied.

One call going our way instead of Indiana's and we might win.

Scott Frost taught me that a loss is a loss, but man it's hard to not look at our decade of suck and then this game and feel like we have made some major progress.

Edit: some of you guys need to read my last sentence again....

Edit 2: Jesus you guys. The second half of the post is the important part. We lost. Indiana took advantage of our mistakes in a way that only good teams can do. We lost. It doesn't change the fact that we looked like a real football team against a very well coached football team that won the natty last year.

I thought that after we went three and nine with all of those one score losses

1

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

A lot of those were close because the other team fucked up, but read my last sentence again

I mean we got bailed out on a RTP call on an INT amd immediately went 3 and out. So had our chances and did nothing with them in the 2nd half

Do you know what "bailed out" means? It was RTP, but the penalty didn't cause the interception, so we absolutely got bailed out by a really stupid penalty and then didn't do shit with it.

1

u/godisoursavior Iowa Hawkeyes • Texas Longhorns 7d ago

How was it RTP? he fell on top of him which is unavoidable unless the linemen can somehow change how gravity works?

Gus was right and Joel Klatt has too much QB bias and therefore I consider him to be donkey brained

3

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

It was the forearm to the head that made the ref think "oh that looked bad" as a person who was watching Husker Football in 2009 all "you hit the QB like you would any other player, but they are special snowflakes" flags annoy me though...

u/godisoursavior Iowa Hawkeyes • Texas Longhorns 6d ago

thank you for not being biased <3

If my grandma had handlebars she’d be a bike

26

u/Hour_Health_4593 Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

Your grandma has two wheels?

5

u/WilliamTheGnome Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

No, but the whole neighborhood rides her.

3

u/TrustLordJesusChrist 7d ago

I prefer the saying, “If grandma had balls, we would call her grandpa.”

1

u/bertthemert Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

If your Nan was a bike, I'd ride her hard and put her away wet.

“Take away all their touchdowns and they would’ve scored less” lol

Add wheels to my Grandma and she would be a bike

Nebraska isn’t exactly highly ranked academically

It’s true that if a team scores 0 points they cannot win the game.

1

u/thecoldedge Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

Lets not even talk about the fumble that called as incomplete.

-7

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

No, more just saying we were incredibly competitive with a defending national champ.

0

u/notoriousCBD Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

Indiana didn't look great either so I'm not convinced Nebraska has really taken a step forward. I guess they are paying more money for players for whatever that's worth (a few more wins?)

3

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

Indiana is too well coached for me to think we didn't have something to do with that

1

u/notoriousCBD Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

They just looked anemic most of the game except for those few big plays. I hope you're right, but I'm not holding my breath.

2

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

We shit on their run (#9 coming into the game I believe) and have some solid players on the secondary

32

u/HottestLittleBeef LSU Tigers 7d ago

Take away Nebraskas 17 points and it’s a blowout

4

u/TheVeritableBalla Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

Take all of Nebraska's points, give them to Indiana, multiply it by 10... Boom all the sudden it's the biggest blowout in the history of the sport

1

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

Those were from long drives. Can't really pick just a handful of plays. I get where you're coming from of "if things were different, they would be different" but you can't tell me you thought Nebraska had the ability to play Indiana this close 5 hours ago

-4

u/shyndy Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

20-0? With how the frost years went I don’t think I would consider it a blowout lmao /sadface

Did you miss my last sentence?

2

u/bmcombs Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

That may matter if you weren't Nebraska. Matt Rhule is the Franklin to rule them all.

You looked great, should be ranked, should have won. But theoretical differences are irrelevant.

0

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

We were getting fucked by teams way worse than the defending champs and getting lucky to keep it close under prior coaches. We played good football today. Indiana just made basically 1 mistake and we made enough that Indiana is good enough to take advantage of to win

-3

u/Glittering_Hunt_3785 Vanderbilt Commodores 7d ago

They can’t read.

You very clearly were saying that Nebraska played well for a majority of the game, and lost in moments. Overall, much better performance, but still a loss.

Don’t worry dude, I got what you were saying. I think it’ll show on the how bad did we get beat thing that gets posted every week. I wouldn’t be surprised if y’all are above Indiana despite losing

Because it's a clown comment and should be treated as such.

"If the other team didn't score, we would have won! By a lot!!!"

2

u/OwnWalrus1752 Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

Tbf the last time we played it was a 49-point loss. This felt like the Iowa game last year but Nebraska played even better. Depending on how next week goes, they could be a playoff contender or in a prestige bowl.

Only idiots base everything off of results, instead of paying attention to the process.

2

u/IU-Grad-x2-hoohoohoo Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

Played well and were the aggressor while IU played it very conservatively. Defensive strategy was spot on and forced IU to finally adjust. Offense learned from Northwestern and exposed IU’s deficiencies of which there are far more than last year and maybe even 2024.

Overtime was probably the correct regulation outcome but the clock and game situation eventually were enough of a help to indiana’s defense to get off the field twice at the end - Hoosiers got away with one. I’d say you’ll know now how to feel about this one down the line a bit. Even though IU has come back to the field and then some, I’d say Nebraska is very much improved. Looked like an awesome atmosphere. Hope to attend out there some day.

2

u/baconator_out Texas Longhorns • Tennessee Volunteers 7d ago

This didn't look like the Nebraska of the last couple decades. I watch Nebraska maybe once a year, and this is not like the others. You guys have made major progress, it looks like. I'll be surprised if this loss doesn't rank you. This is a real football team. Good show to you guys.

3

u/ColoradoisaState Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

Take away my grandpas nuts and I wouldn’t be alive today, but that’s not how reality works so I’m here and IU won

2

u/Thereisnoplace Nebraska • Game of the Century Cl… 7d ago

Omg people misunderstanding you is driving me nuts. It's not to prove we should have won. Yes, it is unusual for there to be just 4 plays in a whole football game to turn it from a runaway win to a loss. It wasn't like they stomped up and down the field drive after drive, play after play. It was 4 big plays and some big mistakes on our side of the ball. The context is to say that for MOST of the game, Nebraska was genuinely performing well. It is a big improvement from our past. Devastating way to lose, sure, but there's more to it than that. People are just jaded, and it's understandable after the last 2 decades.

2

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

Exactly this! I'm also not trying to take away from Indiana, especially because the other thing Frost taught me is that luck often follows skill in football

2

u/Thereisnoplace Nebraska • Game of the Century Cl… 6d ago

Absolutely, luck is when preparation meets opportunity. Indiana won the national championship last year - they are a good team! Yet we held them to 3 at the half, and they had not even been trailing a team at half since 2024. We did perform well, and I think taking the whole of the game into account we have a lot to look forward to instead of just going straight to "here we go again, typical Nebraska"

1

u/naptown-hooly Ohio State Buckeyes 7d ago

Rhule also going for it on fourth down instead of punting with more than 4 minutes left was also in play.

1

u/IHaveMeasles Nebraska Cornhuskers • Orange Bowl 7d ago

Progress and Scott Frost mentioned in the same paragraph? It’s the same shit different week

1

u/ChosenBrad22 Nebraska • Wayne State (NE) 7d ago

Nah it would have just been something else. It’s always “well maybe if this” for what 15 years now lol

Just bet the moneyline in games like this and use it as a money printer.

1

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

Valid, but the Scott Frost losses were always the other team's fuck ups keeping us close this game we legitimately played well against the defending champs

1

u/sewilde 7d ago

I thought your squad looked great. Big difference was Cignetti deciding to make Colandrea throw the ball in the 2nd half and exploiting the run sellouts on defense. Definitely felt like IU stole that.

-6

u/Ok-Society9168 7d ago

Bro. It was at home for you. The refs were in your pocket. That roughing the passer call was absolutely home cooking.

2

u/saunders45 Nebraska Cornhuskers • USF Bulls 7d ago

That’s the dumbest statement I’ve seen posted in a while. Nebraska went 2+ years between holding calls in a conference game. The refs haven’t been in NU’s pocket for a single game since joining the Big Ten.

-1

u/Ok-Society9168 7d ago

I don’t know football! Fuck you! lol

If we take away everything bad it’s actually good!

3

u/GP_ADD Alabama • Mississippi State 7d ago

I think what he is trying to say is that they were playing consistent outside a couple of big big big mental mistakes. I believe what he is describing might show up in the “how bad did we get beat” post every week with them being slightly above y’all. Y’all won and he’s not saying yall shouldn’t have won, but it’s not too hard to understand what he’s saying

0

u/cubis12345 7d ago

Take away all of Mahomes’ big plays and he’s average

0

u/mrjabrony Indiana Hoosiers 7d ago

If you regress Mahomes to the mean

1

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

Okay, take away the first half of my comment and just read the last half 😂

People are focusing way too much on the "if things were different they would be different" part and not enough attention on the "we looked like a team that actually can play football" part

0

u/Orion3193 7d ago

Lmao... if it wasn''t for all those big plays, we'd have pitched a shutout.

2

u/hskrpwr Nebraska Cornhuskers 7d ago

You have to agree that a game that a team can't normally win a game on big plays alone. Nebraska put real long drives together and Indiana couldn't.

At the end of the day, we lost because of those 4 mistakes that Indiana was good enough to take advantage of. But I'll be damned if some one tries to tell me we didn't play a good game of football against a good team today.
