I'll speak on behalf of the caring aspect. Nebraska doesn't have any Pro anything, and half of the states around us don't either so it's not like we can root for a neighbor Pro team that has any real significance to Nebraska. You grow up in Nebraska wearing red shirts to Bakers etc, no matter your age, on game day. It's thick in the air and it crackles with excitement. It's a bit magic. But that's it. No pro investments whatsoever. We get that one day a week for a small bit of time to root for Nebraska. Not like states with pro teams in all 4...I mean, that's saturation and year-round, possible PRIDE spikes on a win! So a lot of us 'care' about it, why not when we get so little of it? It's our heroin.

I grew up in Nebraska City as a St Louis Cardinals fan. But aside from that, have you forgotten about the Kansas City Chiefs?
As far as the rest of what you said...I don't know how someone who has said the things that THAT POSTER has said in this thread can possibly consider themselves a fan of the team. Those are not the words of a fan, they're the words of an egomaniacal asshat whose personality is wrapped up in how a football team does.
