Ok can someone explain what the fuck the middle of the SEC is because I swear its like the entire conference

"Parity"

46

u/kyrev21 Kentucky Wildcats 7d ago edited 7d ago

Basically it’s Texas, Georgia, and Bama at the top, then almost everyone else in whatever order you want, then a tier of Vandy, A&M, and Auburn, and finally Arkansas

Edit: I think I reverse jinxed Arkansas

18

u/penisthightrap_ Missouri Tigers 6d ago

>Texas

You sure about that?

6

u/Flying_Fish_Fiend Florida Gators 6d ago

You jinxed Texas

7

u/Environmental_Sir456 Tennessee Volunteers 6d ago

Still have Texas at the top?

0

u/SirTiffAlot Missouri Tigers 7d ago

Disagree

8

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 7d ago

With what? You got beat at home by a good, but definitely not great Miss State team. Mizzou is not top tier.

9

u/EmpoleonNorton Georgia Bulldogs • Georgia Bulldogs 7d ago

I would say it is

  • Tier 1: Texas, Bama, Georgia
  • Tier 2: Mizzou, Miss State
  • Tier 3: Fucking Mess of Whatever
  • Bad: Vandy, A&M, Auburn, Oklahoma
  • Arkansas: Arkansas

5

u/CJBulldogsss Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

Meanwhile OU is giving a Texas a run for their money

5

u/EmpoleonNorton Georgia Bulldogs • Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

I give up trying to figure out who is good this year. Arkansas is currently beating Tennessee as well.

1

u/Mister-Beardy-Face Florida Gators 6d ago

It’s the SEC. Everyone is good.

You win your OOC games you can make the claims

1

u/Believe_to_believe Arkansas Razorbacks 6d ago

No, no they are not.

1

u/Mister-Beardy-Face Florida Gators 4d ago

Okay, everyone except for Arkansas and Vandy are good.

3

u/Drak_is_Right Purdue Boilermakers 6d ago

And OU just took Texas's lunch money, their shoes, and their shirt.

1

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 7d ago

That’s reasonable. I think mizzou is very good and probably towards the top of that second tier. I am not convinced about state yet

0

u/Mister-Beardy-Face Florida Gators 6d ago

There are like 10 teams better than Miss St.

3

u/killentime15 Mississippi State • Oklahom… 6d ago

Brother we beat the team that dog walked you

1

u/EmpoleonNorton Georgia Bulldogs • Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

Not in the SEC

2

u/SirTiffAlot Missouri Tigers 7d ago

That was on the road. You didn't see they set the record for cowbells?

Mizzou should under no circumstances be below Florida

2

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 7d ago

My mistake for that. I was thinking of the Miss State/Carolina game (which Miss State won on the road).

I agree Mizzou is better than Florida. But OPs point wasn’t a power ranking of the entire SEC 1-16. It was saying that there are clearly 3 teams at the top, and then a bunch of other teams behind them in an order that will change week to week, and then a few teams at the bottom.

As of today, that generalization is accurate, and Mizzou is in the middle group. Your team will have plenty of opportunities to prove him wrong this season.

1

u/SirTiffAlot Missouri Tigers 7d ago

In replying to you saying the middle is whatever order you want. Who is putting Florida, Scar and Oklahoma above LSU, Tenn or Mizzou?

5

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 6d ago

If it makes you feel better, I think mizzou is probably towards the top of that middle group.

But the point is that we just don’t have enough data points to reliably rank them. What is mizzous claim to fame? Beating bad Florida and Texas AM teams? Ok then Florida towards the bottom. Well what about Ole Miss? Florida smoked them so they need to be at the bottom but the rebels beat LSU. You think Tennessee should be towards the top? The same Tennessee that got into a rock fight with a bad Auburn and is currently losing to Arkansas? Oklahoma towards the bottom when they’re currently tied with #1 Texas in fourth quarter?

It is 100% an objective cluster in the middle, and mizzou is part of that cluster. Enjoy it.

0

u/BillyBobChorton Georgia Bulldogs 7d ago

Tennessee played Texas close like Ohio state.  And mizzou looks good. I think all 5 are potential playoff teams

5

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 6d ago

You think Tennessee is a potential playoff team? That is certainly a take.

Sure, they played Texas close but Texas teams under Sark have a pattern of always playing to the level of their competition.

3

u/BillyBobChorton Georgia Bulldogs 6d ago

If Ohio state is one, why not Tennessee?

3

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 6d ago

lol let’s just see how this season plays out. I definitely have an anti Tennessee bias, but I just don’t think they’ve passed the eye test this season.

3

u/TonyTheSnowman Texas Longhorns 6d ago

You were dead on about Sark's pattern, and agreed. Too much ball left to accurately judge the majority of teams this year. Based on all the inconsistent play across the board. I think we're about to get a couple teams who make the playoff, that nobody in their right mind would have thought before the season.

u/NUTS_STUCK_TO_LEG Tennessee Volunteers 7d ago

I feel like “meat grinder” insinuates there are a lot of good teams that beat each other up but most of this conference is just blind kids swinging bats at each other

This was my favorite game of me and my friends when we 14! Well sort of. We put these polar rated sleeping bags over our heads and then bullrushed at each blindly flailing until someone got hit hard enough to call the end of the round.

Which feels like a fitting description of what's happening in the sec this year.

2

u/Putrid_Piano4986 Missouri • Missouri State 7d ago

I know we all like an anti-sec circle jerk, but I'm pretty sure the SEC has the best OOC p4 record by a longshot

It’s hard to say, because the conference did so well OOC, you kinda have to credit it as the best middle of the pack of the conferences.

This is why I love the sec. It's hands down the most competitive conference in college football. Sure there's outliers like uga, Bama, and texas but those middle of the road teams can beat any team in the ncaa on any given Saturday.

It's why sec schools constantly drop in and out of rankings, it's tough to rank so many schools that constant beat each other up.

0

u/Negative_Anteater_62 Auburn Tigers 6d ago

This. It's why no SEC game is a truly a free win.

it’s almost like they you have more money to play with when you’re in the biggest market conference

6

The sport overall has become super condensed. Results among teams who are close to each other can easily flip or get lopsided depending on how well the teams play.

Even the top teams can’t really get away with playing mediocre games like they used to but they won’t get blown out.

Florida is not a top team. They aren’t super talented. Their defense, especially secondary, is a big concern. They basically need the offense to bring its A game every week and instead they’ve had back to back clunkers. They’ve played their C game at best the last two weeks while Mizzou and Scar have played their A games. That is a recipe for getting blown out

There are 3 elite teams - bama, uga, ut. There are probably 3 good teams - mizzou, ole miss and someone else. Everyone else is mediocre.

In a week, we will know a lot more. Ole Miss -mizzou, lsu-msst, bama-tenn.

It should be clear who the top 5 teams are.
