Arch Manning just isn't good. I mean, he's not bad, but I am tired of the media pretending like he's a great talent just because of the name on his jersey. Kid shouldn't sniff the #1 overall pick.

The media will do anything else except admit they made a mistake. They're going to pretend Arch is elite until he either retires or busts.

Just look at how Brock Purdy is covered in the NFL. He's the top QB in the league according to the analytics, and you'd think his draft position would make him the perfect media narrative, but the talking heads treat him like he's mid just because they all got his projection wrong and don't want to admit it. They did the same thing to Tom Brady back in the day as well, just because he was drafted low - it took 3 Super Bowl wins before the media finally admitted that Brady was elite, and not just a system QB.

I feel like that system QB narrative dogged Brady in the media well beyond the first 3 SB’s

u/BrunsonAndDone Florida State Seminoles 7d ago

Brady had to leave and win in Tampa before it happened. Many considered him a HOFer but with a coaching asterisk.

I don't think I ever saw Brady more happy and completely hammered with alcohol than right after he won it all with Tampa.

u/RottingAnalFissure 7d ago

Brady is the goat but I think people were talking about the other asterisk.

Hardest thing for many people to do is admit they were completely wrong. Crow leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

Herbstreit's intense desire to say he is friends with famous people like the Manning family prevents him from objectively evaluating Arch. If you are famous, he will dickride you into oblivion. Much of the test of the media is similar.

u/Mickwinn Tennessee Volunteers 6d ago

Hell Brady had to go to another team and win a Super Bowl there for the rest of us to admit he was the GOAT lol

Umm.. the media hasn't even put him in the top ten of qb's in the nation for weeks let alone heisman. This is a reddit thing from people like you wanting to hate. Casual sports fans with nothing to look forward to in their lives get a dopamine boost off proliferating this false narrative of him being a top qb so they can tare him down, the cycle of dopamine. Look up Heisman polls last few weeks, he's nowhere near it. The idea that he is great is something people made up based on no facts. So let's ask why does your post get upvoted. It's not the media voting for him, so it's just people loving the fall. People will create a rise just to relish a fall. It's peoples own narratives to give them something to feel, more than they ever would on their basement. The only rational theory is people love hating on something because it crease some sense of adrenaline, when rationally, he was never even ranked high enough by even this years media, to be hated in either way. Unreasonable hate gets more upvotes than promoting a generally good top 5 QB gets upvotes.

u/wpn_ass_destruction 6d ago

Kiper still had him at number 5 as of 2 days ago. Might need to check your facts.

1

u/No-Check4283 6d ago

Congrats one guy had him at 5 lol.

u/BiteyHorse 7d ago

Great arm, zero pocket awareness, zero ability to read the field. Predetermines his read pre-snap and can't read blitzes for shit.

u/No-Owl-6246 Arizona Wildcats 7d ago

He can make a beautiful back shoulder deep throw, but he’s just as likely to throw over the head of a lightly contested receiver in the midrange, or throw the ugliest looking pass a short throw that kills all receiver momentum and leads to a gain of 3 when it could have been a gain of 12.

And EVERYONE is coming after him.

He’s a C+/B- QB, depending on the day.

u/SgtApex Ohio State Buckeyes • NC State Wolfpack 7d ago

He’ll be a mid to late 1st rounder probably or fall into a high 2nd round pick at this stage unless the media just go overtime in the draft process with over hype and some terrible gm decides to risk his job drafting him early.

4

u/Necessary_Proof_9550 7d ago

Idk about #1 overall but he's going to be a Top 10 pick whether any of us like it or not. I dont see anything Elite about him but GM's, scouts, and media talking heads have hyped up far worse QB's that ended being drafted in the Top 10 in years past.

u/gizmo777 Texas Longhorns 7d ago

I hate people saying stuff like this. He's good but not great. Trying to say he's not even good is ridiculous. We were the #1, undefeated team in the country for 4 weeks, that doesn't happen with a bad quarterback.

6

u/Octavian_202 Tennessee Volunteers • Orange Bowl 7d ago

Fundamentally wrong. Look up LSU and their run to the BCS championship game with Jordan Jefferson, he was in fact a bad quarterback.

I don’t think Arch is terrible, but he’s painfully getting elite hype for average play on field, and that’s being generous. He hurt your team today, and cost them this win.

2

u/Pactae_1129 LSU Tigers • Mississippi State Bulldogs 7d ago

Jefferson and Jarrett Lee. Which doubly proves your point lol

3

u/laprasrules Notre Dame • Stanford 7d ago

His mechanics are awful. And it shows up in his accuracy - also awful.

4

u/Legitimate-Low2363 7d ago

He’s not bad? He threw the game right to OU.

4

u/Alternative412 Northwestern • Michigan 7d ago

I stand by my statement, but it reflects more the lack of talent at the QB position across all of college football these days

2

u/Legitimate-Low2363 7d ago

Russel from Alabama was an in state product. Already runs laps around Arch despite the lack of experience.

2

u/BigMaroonGoon SMU Mustangs 7d ago

Same shit as sanders, daddy was a good player so he must be

2

u/False_Dimension9212 7d ago

Except it’s his uncles, not dad

2

u/ironclad1056 7d ago

As a texas fan hes average or bearly above average at best. He's more of a game manager. It was the running game we used to have that would make this team run. This oline has made sure we dint have that anymore.

2

u/jpa7252 Texas Longhorns 7d ago

He wont be the first QB. Its blatantly obvious hes not that good

1

u/Hugh-Manatee 7d ago

IS the media pretending? They cover him because people are interested in him. It’s sort of a chicken vs egg thing to be fair

1

u/Able_Hunter_7966 7d ago

Yeah. He’s looking like an early day 3 pick tbh.

3

u/Alternative412 Northwestern • Michigan 7d ago

And Mel Kiper will be flabbergasted when he's not drafted top 10 and continues to fall

1

u/Saitsuofleaves 7d ago

If even that honestly. He's a good project pick, but with the problem of everyone and their mother likely calling for him to play/start the second the starting QB has a bad game depending on where he'd land.

...welcome to Cleveland Arch!

Kid shouldn't sniff the #1 overall pick.

He won't. The NFL is (usually) a meritocracy.

1

u/soulsides California Golden Bears 7d ago

Gentle push back but as someone who consumes more sports content than I’d like to admit: there absolutely isn’t some overwhelming consensus that Arch is The One.

Is he good for content and engagement? Of course, precisely because he’s a Manning.

But I haven’t seen any kind of wave of support for him and I’ve definitely seen a lot more folks express heavy skepticism about his ceiling.

1

u/MyOnlyAccount_6 7d ago

What’s interesting is the stats before this game, between Mateer and Arch they were oddly near the same.

1

u/Romanscott618 7d ago

He shouldn’t sniff the first 3-4 rounds lol

1

u/oneplusetoipi Texas A&M Aggies • TCU Horned Frogs 7d ago

I’ll go ahead and say it. We would be better off with Manning as our QB.

1

u/RL_Stine_ 7d ago

He’s basically Arch Prescott. Only difference is the cowboys invested Adams entire career into the franchise

1

u/Dadlovepanda TCU Horned Frogs • Paper Bag 7d ago

We'll trade you for a certain Harvard graduate.

1

u/No-Check4283 6d ago

Pretty sure he hasn't been ranked in top 10 Heisman pole for about 3 weeks now but you keep on hating

1

u/mlg2433 Texas Longhorns 6d ago

If someone uses a first round pick on him, that franchise deserves to lose.

1

u/Bonzo101 6d ago

He can’t throw a spiral and has no velocity. I just don’t get it.

1

u/NSFWdontview 6d ago

He is elite

1

u/NSFWdontview 6d ago

They lost by a last sec field goal. They could be undefeated if not for a mistake

1

u/Alternative412 Northwestern • Michigan 6d ago

He made two pretty big fucking mistakes

0

u/newnamesameface 7d ago

All hand offs. The dude can barely throw down field

I think hes good. I dont think sarkasians play calling is good. In fact its garbage. This team has a lot of talent supporting that offense and they start slow and dont finish a lot under his play calling. So its hard to say if its really arch or if sarkasian cant call an offense. Bye weeks under sarkasian are like this. And against good teams too, mostly. The defense has bailed them out a lot this year. And oklahomas defense wasnt good. But its crazy with this talent on offense they struggle to score more than 20-30 points a game. So Id point my finger at sarkasian and tell him either get better or bye. And Id tell arch when you can run, run the ball. Because for some odd reason he hasnt run it much
