Any GM that takes Arch in the first 4 rounds is committing self-sabotage. He’s not even on Ewers level and he got shipped out of Florida this last offseason.

In a span of 19 seconds:

  • Arch throws a pick

  • Mateer completes a pair of passes for 33 yards to get OU in field goal range

  • OU wins via walkoff field goal against the #1 ranked team in the country

Absolute disaster for the Horns.

21

u/jimbojangles1987 Texas A&M Aggies 6d ago

The first one i really thought he landed on his butt out of bounds. Then they showed the replay and he was actually well inside the sidelines but from the far back camera he looked like he was 100% out. Even the ref nearby thought it was out of bounds which is crazy bc he was so much closer.

Also, how was Arch's wild throw to the sidelines before the last pick not considered an intentional grounding? He was in the pocket still. I had it on mute so I couldn't hear what the commentators were saying about it and maybe college rules are different from nfl but it looked clearly to me like an intentional

70

u/ianbits Ohio State Buckeyes 6d ago

Defense and Special Teams keeps you in it despite being physically incapable of moving the ball all day, watch the other team blow a chance to ice it, make a few good passes, win.

We got physically bullied on offense. The Sooners wanted it so much more badly. For all the scheming and talent, at the end of the day if you're not ready to go out and hit someone in the mouth for 4 quarters and get blood on your face, you're not going to win the game.

Arch Manning just isn't good. I mean, he's not bad, but I am tired of the media pretending like he's a great talent just because of the name on his jersey. Kid shouldn't sniff the #1 overall pick.

175

u/Axelrad77 LSU Tigers • SEC 6d ago

The media will do anything else except admit they made a mistake. They're going to pretend Arch is elite until he either retires or busts.

Just look at how Brock Purdy is covered in the NFL. He's the top QB in the league according to the analytics, and you'd think his draft position would make him the perfect media narrative, but the talking heads treat him like he's mid just because they all got his projection wrong and don't want to admit it. They did the same thing to Tom Brady back in the day as well, just because he was drafted low - it took 3 Super Bowl wins before the media finally admitted that Brady was elite, and not just a system QB.

47

u/BoredofBored Iowa State Cyclones 6d ago

I feel like that system QB narrative dogged Brady in the media well beyond the first 3 SB’s

39

u/BrunsonAndDone 6d ago

Brady had to leave and win in Tampa before it happened. Many considered him a HOFer but with a coaching asterisk.

16

u/togotop60 Michigan Wolverines 6d ago
