While I do agree it's super ballsy. When you think about it, why even kick it in that situation? For a chance to lose anyway? I think in 100 situations like that he'll go for two 101 times.
From a purely theoretical perspective, since they make the later iterations do 2-pointers anyway, getting a PAT there just delays the inevitable. Plus the order of possessions changes and I think those things combined, I agree, just go for two right away while you have momentum.
The more debateable one was when he went for it earlier in the game and everyone thought he should kick it. It seemed like a Will Stein thing to do and honestly with our kicker I genuinely don't ever want to leave it to him again.
At one point the winds in Lexington were like 30-40 mph and I had the same thought, don't rely on a FG in this game. Glad it worked out. That first kick it seemed the wind died on him, he definitely over corrected on the second. I can appreciate how that is a challenging environment, but that made it even more surprising to me that Stein banked on a FG. He doesn't usually do that.
Same thing if you score and are down 1 with 15s left in the game. Always go for the win never play for OT. My only exception to this was earlier in the day I said when Texas got the ball before the pick to set up OUs game winner. Just kneel it out and go to OT Oklahoma can’t get 25 yards and you can

All credit in the world to Will Stein, but holy fuck when he threw up the 2 he was shaking like a mfer.
