Thank you refs for ruining a potential great ending. Also mods stop deleting highlights you power hungry losers.

Yeah, I was hoping they would let more through when they announced that at the start of the season.

Only their buddies get to post

People just aren't submitting them. There have been 11 whole removals today, and half of those failed the basic stuff like putting the teams in the title.

Turns out a lot of people want to see highlights but not many actually put in the effort to make them.

Do you have literally nothing better to do than moderate a subreddit? I’ve never understood people that mod subreddits and work for billion dollar tech companies for free. Are you that lonely?

I’ve always wondered the same. Like, are they putting it on their resume, talking it up at parties, high school reunions…it’s always baffled me.

Maybe I’m the idiot. That’s just what I assumed.

If a subreddit isn't moderated, reddit inc will shut it down. Most moderators do it because they want to keep the community going.

A lot of us remember what it was like when you could only discuss sports online in places like the message boards or ESPN comment sections, and how absolutely toxic those places were. Or on facebook, where you got the dumbest opinions. This was a breath of fresh air compared to that.

I don't mention it to anyone. I just figure...I'm gonna be on here talking sports anyway, or reading the articles, it's not much more effort to click a button every now and then. Ideally it helps keep the bots out and the types of people who you see in other subreddits shouting slurs at each other for no reason.

If the primary thing y'all were doing was removing bots and slurs, there would be far less antipathy towards you. For many of us, it feels like most of your impact is censoring and removing viewpoints you don't like, using the breadth of the rules after the fact to rationalize every decision.

Dude. Respect.

Every time I make this point it doesn't come off the way I want it to.

This is the perfect way to say it.

Yeah... Wild to see a mod openly admit that you literally became a mod so that you could get rid of opinions you don't like.

But I don't know how that could be possible since I've been assured repeatedly that doesn't happen and could never happen.

If you've never experienced the ESPN online sports discussions idk what to tell you. It was basically Facebook comments.

"openly admit" okay buddy nothing like a straw man argument on a Sunday morning. Dude said nothing of the sort. Is it fun twisting people's words to misrepresent their opinions?

And now we don't have the highlights thread which would have request and random fun things in it.

People complained that the highlight thread didn't get used and that we should just allow stand-alone highlights instead.

Others complained that we should offer a highlights thread - which already existed at that time.

Now people complain that there aren't enough highlights but they don't submit their own highlights.

Idk, man, I think people just like to complain.

you moderate a subreddit that has 1+ million and you're complaining that different groups of people have different opinions on the state of the subreddit and you just chalk that up to "people just like to complain"?

More so that the most vocal complainers also tend to be pretty myopic - they complain that there aren't highlights, but they don't do anything to post highlights or even comment in many highlight threads; they complain about a need for a highlights thread while there being a weekly one for years that gets few comments.

The subreddit polls is a classic example of how you can have a bunch of different opinions in a large group (complain that the AP doesn't rank Wake, then doesn't rank Wake in the sub poll because it's mostly different people). But complaining just to complain, and not actually doing anything beyond that, is different.

I was happy before, because most cool ones were in there. But folks sure complained

If you gave the average Redditor a hundred dollar bill, they'd complain about how it was folded.
