So, ref-ball aside, it's pretty clear that Bama and Georgia are the best teams right? That felt like two NFL teams going at it, and I don't think I've ever felt that way watching a Texas game this year.
This isn't a core rivalry. It's a Notre Dame rivalry. We've played a lot of good games with a lot on the line. Tennessee tried to end our football program. We took LSU's coach and also their quality of life and turned it into NASA and 6 nattys. Auburn has the audacity to exist in the same state as us. Georgia is just Ohio State except we have to play them more often.
Because Sark refuses to fire any of his fraudulent assistant coaches(such as Flood and Banks) because they’re all his buddies. It’s nepotism and it’s honestly a problem. He also needs to hire an OC but he’s refusing to do any of the above so we’re just kind of fucked.
Edit: also QB coach needs to get replaced. Quinn and Arch look about the same they did in high school. There’s been zero development and that’s why Ewers went 7th round and why Arch will be lucky to get picked in the 5th.
Nah Sark made Quinn into a pretty good college QB, good enough for b2b final four appearances with suspect oline play. He was way overrated coming out of high school, couldn't beat Stroud at osu, and was rated accurately by NFL scouts for the draft. Miami gave him a shot and bailed, just not NFL starter quality.
Arch just ain't it. Gifted physically but not able to process the game fast enough mentally, like 95% of the other 5* qbs
OK thank you - Texas has seemed overrated to me this year (that might be my Archie manning bias talking as well, I just haven’t seen the kid put it together to consistently be talked about as consensus number 1 overall pick) … but wasn’t sure if I was just wrong.
Yeah not that bad but still raining some throughout the game. So the balls were wet and the ground soggy which had effects on play calling. I'd like to see them play in the benz in December
Tennessee decides to play offense gud for exactly one week this season and it’s our pantsing of Bama next week, only for hs to get blown out by LSU and Kentucky to close the season
Plus Ohio State. I think the second half of the Texas game was an anomaly and wouldn’t happen if it wasn’t week 2. Also think Miami might have an argument there but they haven’t played anyone
How are we living in a world where were just dismissing the literal results of the game. Texas still beat OSU, not sure how that gets written off as a fluke when they literally did the things they needed to do to win the game lol
You can always tell the people on this sub who either:
a.) Are totally unfamiliar with statistics and probability, or...
b.) Have never paid any attention to baseball, where even the worst teams win about a quarter of their games. Even in the NFL sometimes the worse team beats the better team.
They won and obv deserved to be ranked higher (till this weekend at least) so I get that but… Do u honestly think it would have been different on a neutral field? Do you think more often than not TX would beat OSU?
Also heat acclimation is a thing and has a huge effect on stamina because your body makes physiological changes to adapt to the extreme heat. And it was 100+ on the field.
Texas was acclimated to the heat because they practice in Texas, Ohio State was not (takes 2 weeks).
Nothing Ohio State could have done to become acclimated because it didn't get that hot in Columbus. Which made the home field advantage bigger for Texas.
The 4th quarter collapse can be the result of Ohio State having nothing left in the tank because the heat. While Texas still had stamina to play because their in bodies had adapted to the heat.
The defense was out of gas by mid-3rd quarter. The offense was the catalyst for that blown lead, but it's objectively been the better unit all season. I have full faith that we'd win a rematch
After today, I feel like we should be 1&2. We’ll drop a few in the rankings, but not by much because we “lost to a team that beat Alabama” and hopefully we can lay low and play our ball. See you in December.
really weird to read this thread saying Bama shouldn't drop, knowing that im going to read another thread tomorrow after Bama doesn't drop where half the comments scream about it
That's absolutely gonna be the case lol. People who actually watched the game will say that Bama shouldn't drop. People who did not watch the game and/or have a particular bone to pick with Bama/the SEC will say that Bama should drop. Inevitably, people will complain a lot about wherever Bama ends up on the AP poll, and then the CFB poll will rank them within 0-2 spots of that.
Texas should be below Ohio State. Barely beating them at home doesn't mean they are necessarily better, and they've looked worse in their other games than Ohio State has in theirs
That was last year. Bama would wax Indiana right now. Hoover is no Mendoza and there is a level of toughness and mystique missing right now that IU had in spades last season.
I just want to remind you that we heard this comment thousands of times last Jan from cocky SEC fans, and then Indianas D(which is incredible still) had you at negative yardage for multiple quarters. Once again Bama lost Indiana hasn’t, they should be ranked above Bama because Bama lost. Didn’t last year teach yall anything? This is the exact reason everyone hates Alabama.
LOL. Hoover is ahead of Mendoza six games into the season in every stat except rushing TDs. Is the “mystique” what caused the 38-3 beat down last year?
The computers are basically saying 7 teams are a significant tier above everyone else.
Ohio State, Georgia, ND, Texas, Miami, Bama, and IU bringing up the rear. We will see if there's separation later in the year, but right now, these are the teams that can win it.
I would agree with this and say Texas/Indiana are a slight amount below Georgia/Bama/ND/Miami/OSU. I’d feel pretty confident it’s one of those five and I’d be fine with putting Texas/Indy with the field.
Eye-test wise it’s hard for me to put Texas in that group. I know they have the really impressive win against OSU but they were getting dominated for like 3 quarters.
I could stay civil, I could match you.. I'm not gonna do either. I'm gonna let you decide if it's worth continuing this. You won't hear from me again. Do it that what you will
In the SEC, absolutely. I still wanna see Notre Dame and Miami play good teams before saying for sure. (Wake is probably the best team either has played?)
I don’t think we are #2 honestly. I think in the 3-5 range, I’d put us at #3. The line is questionable, sayin can be shaky at times(partly because of the line), and defense has some questions still needing to be answered,
specifically pass rush. Thankfully we have god incarnate playing wide receiver for us so it makes those issues seem small. We are good, but I think we’d lose to bama/uga right now in our current state and it may not be super close. I do think we are a step above the others though.
You have easily the best player in the country that can take over games. That helps close the gap a little. I’m a little worried about the defense against a top end offense. The performance against Texas was good but that offense has turned out to be less than stellar, so it’s hard to say at the moment. I think by playoff time though, you’ll be a top 3 caliber team.
Except the few uncharacteristic misses by Russell, yeah. He's been improving every week though, so, barring any key-player injuries, Bama could easily be a top 4 / semi-final team.
Despite Ohio state losing to Texas I think they would compete with UGA and Bama. Also think Miami and Notre Dame could compete (but likely lose). Top 5 teams should be UGA, Bama, Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame in that order.
