If it was 50/50 then it should have been ruled an interception because that's what it was ruled on the field.
I agree it may not have been an interception, but they called it one on the field and every view we were shown on TV never showed it definitively touching the ground.
When I was watching on tv I was thinking it was an interception. There was a final angle they showed very briefly, the last angle before cutting back to live action. That one showed the ball definitively hitting the ground. It wasn’t an interception but without that final angle I would’ve said the video shows it hitting his forearm
Y'all are making me feel like I live in a gaslit alternate reality with this. That was clearly not a catch as the ball moved with the ground when the guy landed. Stop grasping straws.
I'm also so confused. The replay is very clear that it hit the ground. Is the entire subreddit actually blind? Or do they not watch games and just shitpost alongside box scores? Baffling.
There is not a single frame in any of the replays which shows the ball clearly hitting the ground. If anyone can find it, Id be happy to concede the argument. There is a slight bounce up but it isnt clear at all if it was the ground or his arm that caused that. It should not have been an overturn.
I’m kind of with you on this, but the only reason I doubt it was a pick was how quickly they reviewed it. Usually these take 5 minutes and it was like they got in and out in 30 seconds so idk what other view they mustve had to be so sure
After the ball bounces against his chest it literally hits the ground before he secures it. The first angle is unsure but the secondary part of that is being ignored.
I'll give you that, I thought the tip might have touched the ground on the second bounce, the first one he definitely had his wrist under it but then it rattles and twists and the tip of the ball might graze the ground, but yeah, they didn't show that part of the catch from the better view.
That’s where I’m most confused because that seems to be to me why it’s ruled the way it was. By the time he’s on the ground he didn’t have full control. Whether it pops off his wrist or not, it still contacts the ground at the front angle before he’s in possession so that feels like what made them overturn it so quickly.
Kirk really has to chill out. The man doesn’t know when to stop complaining. I’m sure they’d explain it later but I don’t think the interception was reversed due to the wrist contact.
It goes horizontal after the chest contact and his forearms are to the side of the ball not beneath it. So when the ball comes down, it’s hitting the ground. His wrist isn’t the length of the entire ball and the entire ball is moving.
It’s insane to think his wrist was the only contact when it’s in the video.
Great argument. You must think Alabama caught that ball in 2023 too.
It was clear enough to the people that matter, fast enough that it wasn’t even much a delay. But clearly you’re the professional here, go work for ESPN to really show em.
It was the ball shifting as he landed that I'm talking about. This was a "receiver failed to secure the catch" situation. It was a very fortunate call for UGA, but I think it was correct in this case.
No, I've just seen things like this happen many times and they get overturned every time when the ball moves a little bit when it hits the ground because the ground can't be used to help you make a catch.
I'm about to blow your fuckin mind. The ball can be touching two things at the same time. And here's a follow-up that's going to shock whatever brain you have left, if the ball touches the ground when the player doesn't have control (by, let's say, bouncing around like the ball was here), it's not a catch. You're welcome for this information, now go forth into the world with this knew knowledge and move on.
Flair up? Who cares? Dude it can't, a football isn't flat so it needs a flat surface to bounce upward. His arm clearly wasnt flat. Jesus Christ y'all bama fans are delusional
Dude, if you don't think a football can bounce off a wrist upward then idk what we're doing here.
Still, who's your team? You completely ignored that part.
Have you ever dropped a football? Brother I was a collegiate punter and it took years of training to consistently drop it flat where it would bounce directly up.
It's physics dude.
I don't have a team man, I've lived too many places to be some crazy fan.
We're not talking about the end zone one (that was def an incompete pass). I'm talking about the one on Georgia's own 20 that would have put Bama in PRIME scoring position that they showed the replay of ten times.
Guy traps it, it bounces and hits his chest and then bounces a second time and absolutely hits the ground on the second. Probably hit the ground on the first bounce, but the second you can see it hit the ground under the silhouette of his arms. That was a good over turn.
I felt like i was crazy arguing with friends over this. Like there’s no way that ball didn’t hit the ground based on the replay angles. The missed PI was atrocious but Georgia was the better team tonight they deserved the win
50/50, as in there wasn’t in fact conclusive evidence to overturn the call on the field? Because you know, 50/50 means you stick to the call on the field.
Its the same ref crew that allowed tn an illegal onside kick that almost decided the game, I don't think they are taking bribes i think they are just plain bad refs
Hell yeah, man. No hatred in this rivalry, except at the refs for injecting controversy into so many of them. But then a neutral comes in saying the refs are bought when there were multiple terrible calls in both directions? Ugh.
The pick was a 50/50 which is why you expect them to leave the call on the field. I thought it was incomplete live. I just can’t comprehend how you call that indisputable evidence
But that’s kind of my point, they took a 3 second look at it and said “Nah”… they ruled it an interception on the field and overturned it so
Quick. That’s fucking weird isn’t it?
Not really. When it’s live, you can’t always see all the details. Replay slows it down and shows multiple angles which is how you see it hitting the ground.

The refs were so ridiculously inconsistent in this game.
