Typed it all up myself! Probably had a few more beers and minor heart attacks during our game today than anticipated though. I’ve just never been a fan of anyone blaming a single player/play for a loss in a team sport. It’s even worse when it’s the head coach who gets paid millions to be the bigger man.
Being the bigger man doesn’t mean allowing stuff like that to happen. A leader of men demands accountability amongst everybody and maintaining a standard. Coming down hard on a player after such a bonehead mistake is a valid response to drive home the expectations. Critical negative feedback in the moment is a staple of leadership. How you do it depends on your own style of leadership and how the individual involved responds to feedback. What? I disagree. I don’t want to coddle anyone and Deboer had every right to be upset and chew the kid out. Blaming him for losing the game is a different level. That’s a bullshit man child reaction
