This means at this point, Purdue's losses are to the 2nd, 12th, and 21st ranked teams.
I had been saying since they happened that Wake and UCLA weren't bad losses at all, but showed we can hang with teams who are clearly in the dcent-to-very good tier. And since Indiana State and ND are in different levels of competition from us (on opposite sides) neither of those games really matter.

Somehow they aren't recieving much attention. They covered the spread against two ranked teams to start the season and since then they have blown everybody out.
They could seriously go undefeated in conference play and make the playoffs.
Oregon State has an easier path to the playoffs than Oregon.

🚨 Wake Forest and Northwestern are ranked in football at the same time, this is NOT a drill 🚨
E: I'm not going to be combing through their week-by-week rankings every season going back to the inception of the AP poll in 1936, but as far as I'm aware based on some Google-fu and Wikipedia-kwon-do, it appears that the last time these two teams have been simultaneously ranked was a few weeks during the 1948 season. Northwestern was ranked within the top 10 every week the poll rated teams that year (as high as #3), whereas Wake snuck into the following polls: 11/01/1948 (#18), 11/08/1948 (#19), and 11/29/1948 (#20).

Why is LSU ranked. Can somebody give me a good argument.
524
u/TheWallsHaveNostrils Washington Huskies • Wisconsin Badgers 7d ago edited 7d ago
Can't believe I'm defending the Ducks but there is no justification for ranking LSU while not ranking Oregon.
LSU hasn't beaten a ranked team. Their best win is either Clemson or A&M, both of whom are mid at best.
And while both teams they've lost to are good, Kentucky is still unranked.ignore this point, I missed that Kentucky got ranked. Which they should be, tbh.Oregon has two ranked wins in USC and Boise State. Both their losses are ranked in OK State and UCLA. And one of their losses has the excuse of a backup quarterback playing.
There is no rational justification beyond media hype and name brand to have LSU over Oregon.
272
u/Vocen Oregon Ducks 7d ago
I'll give you some cover for "defending" us: you're right, but to be clear the moral of the story is not that we should be ranked, but that LSU has no business being ranked either.

Rankings are from the current AP Top 25 because this is primarily about checking the internal consistency of the ranking.
Potentially relevant unranked wins are either teams receiving votes or teams ranked top 50 in the Massey composite. This is intended to give a decent idea of a team's resume without listing out every game.
† = was ranked last week, ‡ = was ranked last week and was knocked out of the ranking by the team in this row

Oregon has now played 4 ranked teams and Portland state. Their next game is against Nebraska(29) who IMO should be ranked.

And then we play ranked Northwestern. Turns out we have a really hard schedule this year

We actually held onto 23 after Oregon erased the quality loss. Probably gonna lose it to the bye week though
Nice to see new teams in here too

Just win 5 or the next 6 and we can finish the season in the RV column. #progress

AP polls are funny sometimes. The Pokes moved up one after a bye week, but stayed in the same spot after winning over UCF.

We are definitely not a top 5 team right now. That said, Nebraska is definitely a good football team. Glad NU cracked the top 25.

LSU still being ranked is a joke. Their two biggest wins look less impressive every week too. Clemson and A&M are going to beat best 7-5.

I agree. There have been a few occasions where a team goes from unranked to ranked after a loss, and I figured this would've been one of those occasions.
However, I'm a bit confused as to why Indiana rose 2 spots. If voters still don't think Nebraska is legit, I figured they also would've dropped Indiana a bit for struggling against an unranked team.

I’d put Northwestern at 20. Nebraska at 25. Indiana is a 7 for me. Need to beat Ohio State to be in Top Five. But winning out is what matters most.

Call me crazy, but Tennessee is not a top 15 team. I personally moved them down a few more ranks after barely beating Arkansas
