My twin brother's wedding is a little under 4 hours from right now. No alcohol. No dancing. Eggs, biscuits, lattes served at the reception.
God help me.

I feel you. My twin brother’s wedding was in a 100-year-old church with no AC in south Mississippi in fucking August. Walmart cupcakes after. No alcohol.
All for them to, I shit you not, divorce a year later.

The worst mistake I ever made was agreeing to get married in Vicksburg at a tiny church in the middle of fucking July because her best friend's dad was the preacher. The next worst was staying with her for 8 years after that.

Oof, feel you there. My brother’s church was outside of Port Gibson so really close to there.

Kansas has not beat Kansas State since 2008. As long as I have been a fan they haven’t won this game. I’m really hoping this Sunflower Showdown is the one.
Additionally my other flair has their rivalry game as Ferris State and GVSU play The Anchor-Bone Classic today. It’s supposed to be available free on Amazon prime on one of the Flo Sports channels. While Ferris has looked pretty dominant all year, with this one being in Allendale in what is supposed to be a sold out crowd it feels like an anything can happen game.

Kinda struggling with the impending doom that is the 24 team playoff. Am I the only one struggling to get hyped? Maybe it's a physiological thing, but I just feel deflated this morning
3
u/moby323 Clemson Tigers 10h ago
Every season past few years im less hyped than the one before.
My biggest fear is that now that EAPN owns the property, they will hype the hell out of the playoff and treat the regular season like a preamble.
Every game will be framed as playoff percentages based on the potential outcome.

u/Jimmykindaexists Missouri Tigers 10h ago
I'm a new fan, got into the college version of the sport in 2025 because my friend had been pushing me for years. I really began to fall in love with the stakes, the way every game felt like must see television. Obviously it's lesser now than it was, but it still made for must see television
Now with 24, the games have no weight, and the friend whos gotten me into the sport is done with everything besides the playoffs because he's a fan of a big program that doesn't have to really worry about their season (Miami, if curious). I just feel deflated, knowing that I didn't really get to enjoy much of the good days
3
u/moby323 Clemson Tigers 10h ago
Yeah, before, this Alabama - Tennessee game would have massive implications to a 1-loss Alabama team.
A second loss could absolutely derail their season or put them on the brink. If the game was close at the end, it would feel like “This could be Alabama’s whole season right here.”
With the 24 team playoff, this game is nothing but some bragging rights. Alabama could lose this game and 1 or two others and probably still be in the top 24.

u/LiquidLight_ Notre Dame • Purdue 10h ago
At some point they're just reinventing the BCS system from first principles. I'd assume things stop before they get to "hey the whole season's a tournament, last undefeated wins", but who knows.
1
u/DamnitBobbehHill Ohio State Buckeyes 9h ago
The whole concept seems like a drunk Pat McCaffee idea to make ESPN more money and they listened without considering how it will kill the sport

u/skushi08 Boston College • Louisiana 7h ago
I think 24 is absurd and only guaranteeing 1 G6 spot. Half the round 1 matchups are going to be bloodbaths anyway. I’d rather see a sunbelt champ or any G6 champ show up with something to prove, than watch B1G champ play the 5 seed coming out of the SEC with half the team actively in the portal or opting out so they don’t get injured for the portal/draft.

You’re not the only one struggling to get hyped. I joked yesterday around the house that eventually we’ll have a 64 team playoff. 6 games will get played and then in mid-October we’ll just start the playoff run. I was just ranting of course, but I don’t know, I just turned 50 so I could see this in my lifetime, LOL.
What I’m struggling with is all the pre-season talk about which teams will be in. Let’s take my school, Texas, for example. I heard two guys going back and forth on SiriusXM about “Texas has a hard schedule. If they lose three games but manage to beat Ohio state, they should be in.” Should they? Who knows. Then they went on to similarly scenario Ohio State, Bama, Oregon… why are we deciding in August who should potentially be in 4 months later? Why not just play the season and see how it goes? So that’s my concern, that 24 teams will just lead to more predeterminations that X and Y teams can lose 3-5 games and still be okay.
I don’t really know if I’m explaining myself all that well. The whole thing just feels… meh. Like “it’s okay to lose 25-33% of our games, we’ll be fine.”
On the flip side though, maybe, just maybe, fewer players will jump ship to other teams to chase that small handful of teams that are playoff bound. Pipe dream? Maybe.
Change is a-comin’ though, so I guess I better just wrap my head around it and move on.

Food for thought…
There are 32 teams in the NFL, of which 14 make the playoffs each season. That’s 44 per cent. (It used to be 12 of 32, or 38 per cent).
There are 138 teams in FBS. Under the old four—team playoff, only three per cent of teams made it. The current system is 12 teams, or nine per cent. Expanding this to 24 means that 17 per cent of teams get in.
If the NFL can still maintain a quality regular—season, with more than 40 per cent of its teams qualifying for the playoffs, college football can certainly do fine at just under 20 per cent.
6
u/Jimmykindaexists Missouri Tigers 9h ago
NFL teams are more balanced than college teams though, by a considerable margin. The dolphins only lost by 14 to Kansas City, and they're considered one of the worst rosters ever assembled.
Even without that though, is college footballs value not in its high stakes regular season matchups? Is it not about limiting mistakes against hungry schools looking to ruin your season? A 24 team playoff effectively makes the regular season lose any true impact it once had. After all, why care if Bama loses when they can make it with 4 losses?

u/unfortunateavacado24 Florida Gators 9h ago
Not too much. I thought 12 teams was too big, so 24 has just been more of the bad thing I already didn't like. I kind of appreciate them essentially admitting with the "strength of conference" variable that they will just be seeding playoff teams based off revenue projections. If you're going to be greedy, at least don't insult my intelligence by pretending not to be.

How has ESPN not forced the ACC to play 8 am games?
2
u/moby323 Clemson Tigers 10h ago
If it’s this bad already, I can’t imagine how bad the conference elitism will get once ESPN is done with this sport.
2
u/Commercial-East4069 Ohio State Buckeyes 10h ago
I mean we still essentially have PAC12 after dark, why can’t we have coffee with the Atlantic Coastal Conference?

I was watching that game last night and they said Memphis has 81 new players on the roster this year.
The turnover has gotten to be absolutely absurd. Is there anyway we can let the players get paid but ask that they play minimum two years at a school or “red shirt” a year?
