Discussion This week in press conference, Charles Huff compared his program to being a Navy SEAL and threw shade at prior Coach Silverfield saying “They didn't hire me to stand there with my arms folded and look like I'm lost." They had 6 turnovers and lost to a 4th string freshman QB last night.
Arkansas fans don’t even like silverfield but talk about hilarious timing. Memphis fans were so convinced that Silverfield was the only issue and then laid an all time egg with that performance. There is no doubt if you watched that game Memphis is the better team and lost. Maybe coach Huff should coach them like Marines or Air Force next time.

Every time I see someone compare football to being at war, I lose respect for them.

when u dont understand analogies
Woody Hayes (Ohio State): U.S. Navy — Enlisted in July 1941, rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander, and commanded patrol craft in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.: "Football is about the only thing left that teaches discipline, and war is about the only other thing."
George Allen (Redskins): U.S. Navy — Served during World War II as part of the Navy's V-12 Officer Training Program at Marquette University.: "Football is like war. It takes 11 men on every play, working together as one unit."
Paul "Bear" Bryant (Alabama): U.S. Navy — Served as a Lieutenant Commander during World War II, initially assigned to North Africa aboard the troopship USS Uruguay.: "In a war, you don't care how many battles you lose as long as you win the war. In football, every game is a battle you must win."

Charles huff said a lot of good things before he played us, I don’t think I could dislike the guy even if his team isn’t playing like they should

I'm kinda relieved North Texas killed our playoff chances because otherwise I'd be really annoyed by Memphis beating us @ Allegiant just to inevitably choke vs a mediocre conference foe.

Is this Ryan Silverfield’s burner?

The fact that this dude is white knighting Ryan Silverfield of all people while claiming he totally doesn’t like him is hilarious

Pretending anyone cares about Silverfield is such hilarious spin to the huge L Memphis took last night. This is great stuff thanks man

I’m not spinning the loss bro, we sucked last night.

I’m not sure what this post is supposed to be saying. Even if Huff isn’t the answer, we knew Silverfield absolutely was not. Not to mention, one game in year one where we were minus a billion in the turnover margin and still had a chance to win does not indicate that Huff is not the answer.

I’m pretty sure navy seals have more than 6 turnover discipline lmao
He was talking like a coach who needed a reality check and he sure got one
Are you really so incapable of understanding comedy that you don’t understand it’s funny that a coach mocking the guy he took over for lost in embarrassing fashion the same week?

Most people in here are calling you out for the dumb post that this is, but sure we’re the ones who don’t understand comedy

Yes that’s why it’s majority upvoted and the top comment is another joke at your expense
We’re all laughing at you. That’s the point. Hahahahaha

Listen man if you have to explain your comedy to multiple people it’s probably not that funny. You’re certainly not mad at all

I don't think a team who's coach threw shade at Kirby Smart is in any position to criticize other teams about who their coach threw shade at.

Two things can be true: huff/Stokes (mainly stokes) shit the bed last night. Ryan silverfield was also an abysmal HC who somehow failed upwards to an SEC job.

To be fair, he's not far off with that comparison since that performance pretty much was a war crime.

Based on what? The Tulane loss is bad but even with what was effectively 8 turnovers they were in it until the end and outgained Tulane by over 100 yards. They beat a UNLV team who has since gone on to beat NDSU and Cal, they blew out all the other teams they were supposed to beat, and lost to Boise on the road when they ran out of gas against the likely G6 playoff rep. All this with a bunch of roster turnover and relying on So. Miss transfers.
Feels like Huff is performing on par with Silverfield the last few years despite it being year 1. Dude deserves more time before being declared terrible.

I think they said 60 transfers for Memphis. I know times are changing quickly but that is still hard to wrap my head around.

u/PomfAndCircvmstance UNLV Rebels • Mountain West 9h ago
Life in the G6 is rough these days. If you're any good you lose your coach to mid-P4 teams, they take your whole team with them, and have to start with a whole new group next season. UNLV's had more or less a whole new starting lineup every year for the last 3 seasons. You never really know what you have until the season starts.

u/GGdpcGaming Arkansas Razorbacks 9h ago
They had 65 new players in Silverfield’s last season. I think that’s part of Silverfield’s resume that got him the job - he’s used to the modern level of annual turnover.

It’s a branch of the military joke because it’s absurd to compare a football program to military standards.
