Are the Mormons going to boycott College Gameday after Pat said that?
Their church made a big thing about how "Mormon" is an offensive slur and they could only be referred to as "members of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints".
That was right after they had a marketing campaign called "I'm a Mormon".

u/Zal3x Alabama Crimson Tide 5h ago
Lol wait so they’re so ashamed of the connotations people have about Mormon they’re trying to rebrand?
2
u/bartspoon BYU Cougars 5h ago
It’s not a rebrand. The church has never been “Mormons” that’s just the unofficial demonym. The official name has always been the LDS church. They’ve embraced or distanced themselves from the “Mormon” terminology at various times based on the preferences of the old guys in charge at the time. Average members don’t really care.
2
u/super_granola Texas Longhorns 5h ago
Not always. When Joseph Smith’s original name for the church was “Church of Christ”. Later came “Church of the Latter Day Saints”, then another rebrand to “Church of God” and then finally… “Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints”.

u/duncanispro Notre Dame Fighting Irish • BYU Cougars 5h ago
Not at all. The members don’t worship Mormon, they worship Jesus, that’s why they changed, to avoid confusion and affirm devotion.
6
u/SenHeffy BYU Cougars 5h ago
The one guy who had a problem with the word Mormon made his way to the top of leadership, and not using the word became a pet project for him. After he died, most people stopped caring.

Can't wait for the game tonight. To the rest of the country watching, yes, the four corners really are that beautiful.
10
u/showerstool3 BYU Cougars • Sickos 5h ago
This is funny because I don’t associate northern Utah with the term “four corners” but I guess the entire 4 states are picturesque
3
u/EnwardGamerz Notre Dame • Regis (CO) 5h ago
I suppose it does more specifically refer to a specific area the four states share but I am just referring to all the states as a whole. It's an incredible part of the country

I understand why the NCAA wouldn’t let guys that played in the NFL come back down to college, but I kind of wish they would allow it just for the fact that some of these guys that left early or have extra years eligibility left to play in the NFL and a bushing out I’d like to see that like a 45-year-old QB come back and play

Oregon vs Nebraska banished to the shadow realm. Shoved into the proverbial locker. A couple of middle children whose parents forgot them at the YMCA. Seemingly picked last by the broadcasters. Quietly playing a late game that even west coast sports fans might turn in for the night at half time. Why the hell is it a 8pm pst kickoff?

What a legend Steve young. Didn’t know he was a descent of Brigham Young!
-2
5
u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Pittsburgh Panthers 6h ago
I mean, his name kind of gives it away, right?
5
u/Mythrandir24 Delta Bowl • SIAA 5h ago
So he is a descendant of one of Brigham Young's daughters, so technically that isn't why he shares the last name. His patrilineal heritage and surname are actually from Joseph Young, brother of Brigham Young. I'll leave the implications of this fact unsaid.
1
u/Coogarfan BYU Cougars • BYU-Idaho Vikings 2h ago
Funny, but that's not very closely related at all.

we want week zero in Mexico and we don’t want losing to impact our playoff chances
K
Edit: the die was already cast in December and that Mexico “offer” was something they couldn’t realistically give. That’s before the potential of it being a Netflix game. Also not a denial of ducking for playoff chances lol
1
u/brokentr0jan USC Trojans • Victory Bell 6h ago
That was USC’s final offer btw we offered to play 9/12 back in February but Notre Dame wouldn’t cancel the Rice game. Funny how Notre Dame fans ignore that?
Enjoy the cupcake little bro, yall are gonna win by 35. You avoided a real matchup against USC this year
7
u/saltytradewinds Notre Dame • Oregon State 6h ago
Talk about no self awareness.
-3
u/brokentr0jan USC Trojans • Victory Bell 6h ago
USC wasn’t the one that killed a 100 year rivalry because “we can’t cancel on rice!!!”
1
u/saltytradewinds Notre Dame • Oregon State 5h ago
Ah, another misinformed USC fan.
0
u/brokentr0jan USC Trojans • Victory Bell 5h ago
USC offered to play on 9/12, and your athletic director ghosted Jen and then used the “we can’t cancel on Rice” excuse.
USC then offered week 0, and Notre Dame never responded and then came out with the BYU game.
Throughout the entire negotiation process, ND never actually negotiated. Your AD had zero interest in making anything happen.
2
u/saltytradewinds Notre Dame • Oregon State 5h ago
Playing week zero in Mexico was a disingenuous offer. Doesn't matter. Didn't take long to replace USC with an equal opponent.
0
u/brokentr0jan USC Trojans • Victory Bell 5h ago
That was the Hail Mary offer to an athletic department that was not willing to meet USC in the middle.
For all the talk about “anytime, anywhere” that was clearly a lie. ND clearly is only interested in October and November matchups because of the ACC deal that screws you over in the back end of the season.
Funny enough, the fact that you had BYU ready while USC was still trying to work it out shows who’s to blame for the rivalry dying. USC was completely caught off guard by the BYU announcement because we thought we were going to work something out.

1
u/TwoHeadedBoyTwo Pittsburgh Panthers 6h ago
Yeah, he’s right where they expand a 24 teams in the playoffs everybody’s gonna copy Notre Dame and schedule a bunch of cupcakes. There’s literally no inside of it all to play anybody good except for maybe one team that might be like a pit level bottom 25 so you can claim have a “ranked win”
