Great for Houston, I know theyve had attendance problemsz but that takes a lot of time and effort to fix when you are fighting against multiple other texas p4 teams for fans. Hopefully this is the start of a great progression in the future.

I was disappointed watching the UCF game. Iām assuming OKST will be a fairly large presence in the stands tonight

u/A1steaksaussie Alabama Crimson Tide ⢠UAB Blazers 2h ago
people really want to put an asterisk on people wanting to watch a football game

u/Lutrid Oklahoma State ⢠Texas Tech 4h ago
It better be with how desperately they were trying to sell tickets š
76
u/Anus_Targaryen Houston Cougars 3h ago
"UH should try and fix its attendance problems"
Okay lets give out free and cheap tickets
"Wow look at how desperate UH is"
What do you people want from us

u/sunshinesweets 2h ago
It's always a fan or alum of a school in a smaller market with nothing else to do but a CFP game on a Saturday that has something to say. Houston has multiple large venues near UH and then smaller venues in the surrounding suburbs that all have competing events which makes it harder to get fans in seats. My partner is a Red Raider and it's a regular eye roll of a conversation about this.Ā
6
u/TheNewGuy001 Texas Tech Red Raiders 1h ago
This, UH has so much more competition to get butts in seats. Also, Flair up or get lost.

They want us out of the Big 12 because they know we are going to kick their asses.

I would agree. Houstonās been decent the last couple of years and good this year, they deserve the support of the community!
1
u/IrishCoffeeAlchemy Florida State ⢠Arizona 2h ago
What I donāt get is why they had attendance issues in the first place. Texas Tech doesnāt seem to have nearly their problems despite being in a more remote part of the state
8
u/Anus_Targaryen Houston Cougars 1h ago
If you go to Tech, you are going for the 4 year university experience. No one is commuting to Texas Tech. Their students all live on campus and most buy in to a uniform sports tradition going back decades.Ā
UH is in the fourth largest metro in the country. It was started to serve Houstonians. The school has a long history of having students who work and commute. We have had sporting traditions and some good athletic history, but we just don't have the same culture that your average upper level CFB program has. It exists, but far fewer students and alumni buy into it than at Tech or A&M or wherever. That results in a much smaller fanbase. Add in decades of bad conferences and irrelevance in the 90's and 2000s and we are where we are now.Ā

Lubbock is a college town with not a whole lot to do besides TTU athletics. Comping us to them doesnāt make sense. We struggle with attendance for all the same reasons UCLA does.Ā

u/IrishCoffeeAlchemy Florida State ⢠Arizona 21m ago
Wait Houston doesnāt have an on campus stadium either? Ok that makes way more sense then

Mattress Mack is a Houston legend.

This is my first time hearing of Matress Mack, he sounds like a legend. Especially if he's doing it for all Houston sports.
4
u/joethahobo Houston Cougars ⢠Pac-12 1h ago
This guy doesnāt know who mattress Mack is. He is rich and does this for all the Houston sports
