The issue is people were thinking Arch is Peyton and not Eli or Archie.
One is a big outlier as a passer, and Arch isn’t even the son of the QBs.
He’s a good athlete, he might have been better off following in his father’s footsteps as a WR.

u/ManiacalComet40 Missouri Tigers • Big 8 2h ago

30
u/spicyorangedragon Michigan Wolverines 2h ago
Eli had a 16 year NFL career and a borderline HOF case. Eli is nowhere near close to Peyton as a QB, but he is still easily better than 99.9% of people to ever play the position. It's disrespectful to compare Arch to even Eli.
-10
u/invisibleman13000 Georgia Bulldogs 2h ago edited 1h ago
Eli was a middling NFL QB who was just good enough to stick around for a long time and rack up stats in a very QB friendly era. He was never a top 10 QB in any season and the only stat he's ever lead the league in is interceptions. He shouldn't touch the HoF.
He had 2 admittedly great stretches in the playoffs, assisted by one of the best and luckiest catches of all time and 2 great performances by his defense to keep a Tom Brady led offense to under 20 points twice. His whole argument for the Hall of Fame is essentially 8 games out of his otherwise middling career.
3
u/spicyorangedragon Michigan Wolverines 2h ago
Well yeah, I think Rivers is very clearly the better QB than Eli, but Eli had a better career because he had the better organization. I think Rivers on the Giants with 2 rings makes him easily a HOF lock. Meanwhile, the fact we still need to "debate" about Eli shows that he wasn't really that great. Eli had 2 insane SB runs, which he 100% deserves credit for. But no one, at any point, was ever afraid of playing against Eli any given week.
4
u/CunningClanker 2h ago
Middling quarterbacks don't last for 16 years. He was always a good QB. Never one of the best, but was always competitive.
5
u/spicyorangedragon Michigan Wolverines 2h ago
Eh....if you are in the top 16 out of 32 starting QBs, you can definitely stick around the NFL for a very long time. Teams will always have a need for a decent/solid QB.
6
u/JonnyGalt Tennessee Volunteers • Iowa Hawkeyes 1h ago edited 1h ago
How about we just list the QBs that started for the same team for 15 years since 2000.
Brady
Big Ben
Rodgers
Rivers
Brees
Eli manningIf we reduce that to 10 years, it’s:
Peyton manning
Matt Ryan
Stafford
Mcnabb
Russell Wilson
Joe Flacco
Carr
Prescott
Favre
RomoLiterally 16 QBs have lasted 10 years as starter for the same team in 25 years, 6 have lasted 15 years. We can’t even call him good?
1
u/JonnyGalt Tennessee Volunteers • Iowa Hawkeyes 2h ago
Middling QBs don’t last as long as Eli did as a starter and don’t win 2 Super Bowls.
2
u/spicyorangedragon Michigan Wolverines 2h ago
Eli was too good to just cut/trade but wasn't good enough to really be considered in the top 10. He was like a Sam Darnold.
1
u/ActionAdam 1h ago
| Eli was too good to just cut/trade....He was like a Sam Darnold.
The same Sam Darnold that has not been re-signed by any of the teams he's performed on so far?

I’m saying Peyton is an outlier of ALL the Mannings. Everyone thinks Manning QBs are like Peyton, and they aren’t. Not even close.
Go look it up if you want for NFL, Peyton threw 200 more TDs and only 7 more INT along with 14,000 more yards than Eli and he had like a broken neck for 3 years.
It’s why I said he probably should have been what his father, Cooper, was, because he is a good athlete.
8
u/DepartureNo1720 Memphis Tigers 2h ago
This is when everyone remembers he's Cooper's son and not Peyton's or Eli's son.

u/S0ggylemonz Tulane Green Wave 2h ago
I find it hard to believe he would’ve been better off as a wr.
Dude is still a decent college qb (he has special traits he’s just wildy inconsistent and makes awful decisions) he’s just not as good as people want him to be and despite that still probably ends up in the nfl.
Hes also making a ton of money rn as qb.

Our offensive genius of a head coach continues to trot out mediocre and inconsistent offenses year in and year out and has the goddamn balls to fire our DC and say our defense needs to be better. CDC needs to give Sark an ultimatum: fire yourself as OC, along with Milwee and Flood or get fired yourself.

Just out of curiosity, what is Sark's buyout after this season? The way things are going for Texas, I'm struggling to see a reason why you'd keep him beyond just having a massive buyout.
8
u/OozaruPrimal /r/CFB 2h ago
They just have to get rid of Arch. The offense was far better with Ewers. Sark has lost a step as a play caller but how much of that is because Arch can't run any offense.
3
u/Simple_Somewhere_826 1h ago
Whatever GM and head coach loses their job in the NFL after watching him try to lose Sark’s job has it coming honestly.
2
u/OozaruPrimal /r/CFB 34m ago
Yep, and it's probably going to be some dumbass owner shoehorning the pick of Arch in over what the entire draft staff suggests.

8
1
1
u/SnooHobbies8617 /r/CFB 2h ago
it’s more of an arch manning problem than a sark problem. arch has guys open but just panics and takes sacks or rushes for no yards
6
u/Blobattack124 Texas Longhorns 2h ago
He panics because sark calls plays (if it isn’t a screen) with 3 long developing routes and some hook somewhere and arch either doesn’t have time or can’t make the reads, but he refuses to adapt the offense to his QB. It’s 2 sides of the coin. Arch is struggling and Sark won’t help him.
1
u/jrh038 LSU Tigers 24m ago
I don't understand not bootlegging more with Arch. He has the legs for it. You move the pocket, and he only has to read half the field. He has the option to keep it as well.

Literally heard multiple analysts say last week they'd take arch manning in the top 5 overall, despite year and a half of inconsistent offensive production, slow visual reads, poor timing, poor accuracy, etc. It's absurd how much better this offense would be with a legit top 3 or 4 qb this season.
