Video [Highlight] Ohio State @ Indiana: Jeremiah Smith adjusts to the ball and hauls in a 37-yard TD on 4th down!

When Julian Sayin goes pro, he needs to give like half his money to Jeremiah Smith. Smith is saving this dude's life.

Practice squad players don't earn that much. He's going to make less in the NFL than he made in college

Just carry his bags now. That Canadian league money doesn't go very far.

Mensah/Russell/Smith as finalists is pretty much a sure thing, with Jeremiah a heavy favorite for the time being. The fourth is a wild card

Reminds me a little of Julio.
Just chuck the ball up near him and he will make it happen.

Was this the ugliest TD passes of Sayin's career? Yes. But it was a TD though.

Meatball but because its #4 it gets hauled in somehow. Real argument that if whoever gets the first pick doesnt need a QB that this is who your team should grab

100% if I’m a team like the Chargers or Saints and end up with the 1st pick, I’m taking Smith and not thinking twice

u/andross_27 Ohio State • Wake Forest 17m ago
I really don’t think there’s a QB worth the 1st overall this year. Titans should probably take Smith and give Ward another year with Tate and Smith

Dude is so good. Gonna be a 1,200 yard, 8 TD receiver as a rookie

Incredible downfield talent. Not sure how to stop this in cfb

u/Deviljho12 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2h ago
Honestly, cudos to Smith for hauling it in, but this is more of an indictment on IU's defense than his greatness. This is straight up a borderline hail mary ball and none of you get an eye on it?
8
u/honeybadgerrulez UConn Huskies 1h ago
safety turned away from smith lmao. how are you playing against him and turn AWAY
14
u/Thechasepack Indiana Hoosiers 2h ago
It's a 4th and 1 play so a hail Mary throw is close to the last thing you added expecting as a DB there.
1
u/iwearatophat Ohio State • Grand Valley State 21m ago
I feel like 4th and short deep shots are somewhat common. This turned into a hail mary because Sayin was so damn late on the throw.

u/The_Fluffy_Robot TCU Horned Frogs • Iron Skillet 1h ago
Your job as DB is to always be playing as if the ball is about to be coming to the receiver(s) near you though.
Should a DC expect a check down more than a hail mary? Yes, but not as a DB on the field defending

u/RealityisBack2023 2h ago
Reminded me of Adon last year against Miami completely biffing on that CJ Daniels TD
2
u/Unrelenting_Salsa LSU Tigers • Georgia Bulldogs 1h ago
It really is. Most of his long TDs are much more impressive than this. Mostly because Sayin sucks and is a Jeremiah Smith merchant, but still. No reason at all that Smith should have been able to get position here.

He clearly had the defends beat. I think they were in a bit of panic catchup mode. The pass was bad and he adjusted.

One of those plays that just looks so easy...but it's because Smith toasted everyone, and is able to read the ball so well.

It's not just his throws, he has made some dumb fuck mistakes. Taking 2 unforced sacks, forcing throws to Smith because he's frustrating.
Edit:
Another fucking terrible decision and he fumbles. This guy is having an awful game.
18
u/DirectorSolid Ohio State Buckeyes • Tiffin Dragons 2h ago
He always has cojones, and he's able to ignore the previous play like a seasoned NFL pro. But he still can't throw the damn ball today.
1
u/Greenlytrees Ohio State Buckeyes 17m ago
He needs to be able to shake off rough stretches better, no doubt about it. But he also never had a chance to get into a rhythm before he got beat tf up. He bears some responsibility for the sacks but the refs literally stopped our first half offense in its tracks. But again sayin still has to be able to find a way through the struggles, and he hasn’t yet.
4
u/Deviljho12 Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2h ago
It's a bad decision with a good outcome. That ball is floating up there forever and if even one of IU's 3 DBs takes a look back it's either a pick in the endzone or turnover on downs. Why not just take the 1st down when you have the lead instead of throwing a YOLO ball into double coverage.

Edit: Jeremiah Smith stands in the end zone and takes one step forward to defeat a hilariously incompetent defense unlike any he will play against in the NFL
9
u/11oydchristmas Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago
He will also more than likely have a QB who can throw it ahead of him to catch in stride
1
u/EstablishmentOld9838 58m ago
This is very true. I would avoid drafting him if I was any team picking above the Browns.

I'm a huge fan of the intentional underthrow just because it gets called for PK if the WR sells it at all.
I didn't think that was a viable strategy for a deep pass into the endzone.

Was a terrible play highlighted by horrific defense. Then you have OSU fans yelling about Heisman because he literally just took a step back and caught the ball. Nothing impressive about this play whatsoever. Indiana giving this one away.
