People are going to shit on Arch (deservedly) but this offensive line has been horrible

There was pressure but it’s not like there was no time there to make a throw or roll out

And he had plenty of time to secure that ball so that he wouldn't fumble, yet he still held it out enough from him that the collision with the OL knocked the ball out.

Announcer just pointed out the wide open receiver right in his line of vision. He’s just not a great QB

u/bretticus733 Boise State Broncos 3h ago

Whichever GM picks him in the draft is going to get fired. At this point, he's had enough starts and experience that we should be routinely seeing him play like a future NFL QB, and he's playing like a CFL QB at best

It'll be interesting to see if he can manage to play his way out of the first round, or if some GM and/or owner will only care about the last name and take him anyway.

To be clear, I'm not saying he deserves to be picked in the first - he doesn't - but I think it might happen anyway.

Any serious NFL scout, coach, and GM shouldn't be giving him a first round grade. He definitely has R1 tools, and you see it from time to time, but the problem is you only see it like 5% of the time and he looks awful the other 95% of the time. This is a project QB that you pick on Day 2 at best

At least he should look competent. There have been a lot of good NFL QBs that were not spectacular in college. But he’s outright just bad.

he also doesnt seem to have a sense for where pressure is likely to come, or much of an internal clock

he gets surprised by a largely unblocked rusher multiple times a game

u/ManiacalComet40 Missouri Tigers • Big 8 3h ago

They had five guys blocking seven. It’s the QB’s job to get the ball out.

1

u/MadDog1981 1h ago

At least protect the ball.

u/dptraynor Georgia • Clean Old Fashioned… 3h ago

They rushed 7. Someone’s open. Throw the ball.

u/CPTIroc Texas A&M Aggies 3h ago

Yup you can see the open WR running and out to the sideline on top.

4

u/Advanced_Special Texas Longhorns 2h ago

Yup that should've been his primary read after recognizing the blitz, and he should've thrown it early before the receiver broke. He's just ass, my dude

u/CPTIroc Texas A&M Aggies 2h ago

If he goes pro I hope he doesn’t get drafted top 10 because that pressure will destroy any opportunity at proper development.

2

u/FightOnForUsc USC Trojans • Pac-12 3h ago

They only rushed 6

Manning should have declared last year. His stock is falling faster than Enron

u/Lifted_Cube_2413 Arizona State Sun Devils 3h ago

The recruiting services giving him an 100 as a recruit should be as much of a scandal as Enron

For a guy whose high school experience was in a Louisiana private Christian league

1

u/midcityborn 3h ago

Peyton and Eli played in the same league

5

u/Opulent-tortoise Harvard Crimson 2h ago

The level of high school play in 1990 was WAY different than today

6

u/Opulent-tortoise Harvard Crimson 2h ago

To be fair he looked like a 100 playing against those 5’8 rural Louisiana CBs and D lines

Lehman Brothers in shambles

2

u/NYtoJers Syracuse Orange 3h ago

they'll still dickride him tho, that last name is doing a lot of heavy lifting

31

u/ButtonedEye41 Baylor Bears 3h ago

Its a 7 man blitz and he even still had some time. That's all on Arch. Throw the ball.

u/brightcoconut097 Florida State • Arizona State 3h ago

Correct.

u/RontoWraps Kansas Jayhawks 3h ago

73 didn’t need to help block the nose tackle though. There was 2 on the NT and the MLB just waltzed on in. It seems like the center would have been fine on his own.

u/MattBe92 3h ago

You can see that #3 Mosley is open.

I love when people couch qb and are wrong. Where is this 7 man blitz?

6

u/InternationalCoat891 Yale Bulldogs 2h ago

I mean it's a 6 man blitz dude, he barely miscounted and his point stands

0

u/S0ggylemonz Tulane Green Wave 1h ago

Sure but its hilarious that people comment on what the qb should’ve done when they can’t even identify the blitz properly from a replayable video

u/SaltyTurdLicker Virginia Tech • NC State 3h ago

Yes the line has been bad but Arch also isn’t just taking the throws the defense is giving him. He keeps looking for the bigger plays and holds the ball too much knowing the line play isn’t good.

78

u/Erosun 3h ago

He’s got one of the best OL in college. He’s just terrible at making quick reads and also layering throws.

I kinda thought Texas run game would be a lot better but Arch has not help the team be balanced at all.

I’ve said it in a few spots, but Sark has been coaching this kid way to soft.

9

u/Narrow-Paramedic4051 LSU Tigers • Tulane Green Wave 3h ago

Can't make a fast read, zero touch on the ball, holds the ball too long, and look how shit he is throwing left (Source is On3). Calling that nepo average is a compliment.

  • Outside the left hash: 44% accuracy, 58% adjusted completion, 27% uncatchable.
  • All other throws: 57% accuracy, 69% adjusted completion, 22% uncatchable.

8

u/Stunning-Show127 3h ago

I don’t believe the offensive line at Texas is good, but everything you said about Arch is true. He has the physical attributes but not the rest of it.

6

u/Erosun 3h ago

If he was playing better his OL would also grade out better.

QB and OL grades are tied to each other. Not saying it’s end all be all, but there’s a ton of first round talent on that line.

1

u/Stunning-Show127 3h ago

The Texas line has been dreadful the past couple of years. Ewers was running for his life too. They look better this year than the previous years.

On the entire Texas roster there is so much talent, way too much talent to perform like this :(

2

u/Advanced_Special Texas Longhorns 2h ago

Getting dragged down by poor qb play. This offense would light it up with Quinn

1

u/Stunning-Show127 2h ago

No, we wouldn’t. Quinn struggled when he didn’t have enough time.

2

u/Kdot32 Houston Cougars • LSU Tigers 3h ago

He tries to run and has no vision. Hes just “fast” for no reason

1

u/smurf-vett Texas Longhorns 1h ago

Center is actually ass

10

u/No-Owl-6246 Arizona Wildcats 3h ago

They ran a delayed blitz and he got sacked by one of the delayed blitzes. This is on Arch.

35

u/Legitimate-Low2363 3h ago

Terrible take. Can’t make the most basic throws.

7

u/FlaGator Florida Gators 3h ago

Our pass rush turned up the heat the last two drives

u/TitaniumC4206 Oklahoma • Central Oklahoma 3h ago

What the hell is Goosby doing?

2

u/Zyoj 3h ago

Is Goosby #74? If so doing his best Cam Newton impression with a bit of improv at the end to try to save his ass

3

u/500rockin /r/CFB 3h ago

They haven’t been great, but he had throws open he could have made instead.

2

u/DryDiscipline2001 Penn State Nittany Lions 2h ago

Who is upvoting this shit? Exclusively Texas fans and the Manning family?

1

u/theycallmeryan Florida Gators 1h ago

Our secondary is ass so we started blitzing and daring Arch to beat us. He couldn't. Horrible body language, completely folded.
