First SEC shutout by LSU since 2007 wow

38

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs 2h ago

Jeff Lebby is just a white Sylvester Croom confirmed

18

u/2ill4nyquil LSU Tigers 1h ago

Man, how the hell had I forgotten about Sylvester Croom?

17

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs 1h ago

Last Mississippi State coach to beat Bama as well

10

u/ctr72ms Mississippi State Bulldogs 1h ago

Thats a huge disrespect to Croom. Croom couldnt coach but was at least a nice guy. Lebby can't coach and is also a huge POS.

Did Lebby beat Alabama?

47

u/Zenith_24tee LSU Tigers 1h ago

Fun statistic, this season LSU at home has out scored their opponents 225-44

The reports of this being a bad team were greatly exaggerated. We lost two close games in two hostile environments to two very solid SEC teams Ole Miss and Kentucky. We just got to figure out this road curse but Tiger Stadium is looking like a fortress so far.

47

u/TimothyN LSU Tigers 1h ago

We're not bad, we're just not great.

6

u/Sackamous LSU Tigers 54m ago

We have had flashes of both. Consistency seems to be the biggest issue.

7

u/tritonice Mississippi State Bulldogs 1h ago

I’m sorry, but losing to UK even at Kroger was a disappointment with this team.

It’s a tough place for LSU. We haven’t won there in 23 years

3

u/DaMercOne South Carolina Gamecocks 1h ago

Sometimes the schedule works out like that where you don't play any quality teams at home but do on the road. The Alabama game will be a big one.

7

u/RamblinWreckGT Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 1h ago

Also against Mississippi State, for those wondering!

(Before anyone points out Middle Tennessee later that season, they did say SEC shutout)

So Kamario Taylor really is the linchpin here

Him and Fluff. The one two punch of both of them being out really killed our offense

Regardless if it makes sense I saw a lot more defense from LSU rather than offense I think/I guess. But of course the score is almost five touchdowns to nothing

Getting shutout and looking absolutely pathetic today. This team better hope and pray they actually win next week.

55

u/Stutteringstew LSU Tigers 2h ago

Losing your best players definitely showed this week. I was concerned we would lose if he played so GG’s. Miss our yearly rivalry.

4

u/ScallywagBeowulf Mississippi State • Marching Band 1h ago

That wasn’t even just that. This team looked absolutely horrible today. We kept trying to go for it on fourth down instead of taking any sort of points, which could have made it respectable. If we ended up finishing 5-7, I really wouldn’t be surprised after how that game went.

11

u/iamStanhousen LSU Tigers • Southeastern Lions 1h ago

I mean, yall didn’t get any of them, but would you really feel any better if this was 31-6?

10

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs 1h ago

If it meant I didn’t have to watch some of Lebby’s fourth down play calls, yes

Even when we had Dak we weren't this much of a one man team. Without Kamario we can't score a single point? Get Lebby out of here man

47

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs 1h ago

We could’ve had a few FGs but Lebby believes more in a walk on freshman more than my mom believes in me

15

u/ScallywagBeowulf Mississippi State • Marching Band 1h ago

If we had done a field goal on every drive we had gotten close it would have ended 31-15, assuming nothing else changed. Thats at least respectable.

8

Honestly, given how ugly this game was out the gate, I dont blame him for giving his freshman players some snaps to help them in the long run

I do blame him for some of the shitty 4th down play calling decisions he made, cause some of those calls were really bad

8

u/griffinhamilton Southern Miss Golden Eagles • LSU Tigers 1h ago

Yeah this hurts USM too, we regularly play 1-2 SEC teams a year and I feel like that will be fading away. As a band member I was very happy to have been able to perform at SEC stadiums like yours, bama, LSU, etc.

10

u/Whipplashes LSU Tigers • Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns 1h ago

I'm still on the train that were a top 10 team in the country that's too afraid to play like it. There's a great argument to be made that both losses are directly because of coaching mistakes

Ole miss first half had the complete wrong game plan and kiffin even took the blame for it and of we go for it on that 4th down last week we win even with all the other stuff around that game.

Lsu is one of the most talented teams in the country and they can hang and get in a dogfight with anybody we just haven't seen that kiffin is willing to lean into the dogfight

9

u/Time_Transition4817 LSU Tigers • Georgia Bulldogs 1h ago

We are playing scared of losing way too much

5

u/Honest-Enthusiasm 1h ago

Like some football injuries, it's week to week.. or is it weak to 💪 ? At this rate Auburn should be a close loss next week (weak!) but Bama after that should be 💪

Unranked Florida beating top-10 Texas at Texas, and LSU beating Miss St at LSU, are wildly different results.

LSU was favored by two scores very early in the week, before KT was ruled out.

6

u/shouldajustsaid_yeah Notre Dame • Illinois 1h ago

Youre right, a 31-0 LSU win is much more unexpected than Texas choking at the last minute because of an Arch Manning turnover.

40

u/FaithHopeLove821 Alabama Crimson Tide 2h ago

State didn't have their star quarterback and running back. That's not too confusing.

14

u/Vetersova Alabama Crimson Tide 2h ago

Super Mario is legit that good. It isnt hard to understand.

5

u/leave_no_crumb Missouri Tigers 1h ago

He’s the sole reason State was able to put together a 4th quarter comeback against us. Dude is great when healthy.

9

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs 1h ago

Same against SCAR, and he was the reason we got an early lead vs Minnesota. Him and Fluff keep the offense going

1

u/sleepytime489 Kentucky Wildcats 1h ago

He’s definitely good. But good enough to have made this a game if he was in? Genuinely asking. I have not watched much state this year (other than their second half comeback against Carolina)

3

u/Vetersova Alabama Crimson Tide 42m ago

KT is a straight up dawg. Even without Fluff, he could have made it something. With Fluff, the game would have been completely different.

4

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs 1h ago

Him alone? Maybe. Him and Fluff? Absolutely. LSU was sold out on stopping the run, and Kamario is athletic enough to mask some of the deficiencies in our O Line.

It’s almost like it’s just like every other power conference, with a lot of good but very inconsistent teams. Yet for some reason an SEC loss is treated as a small drop down the rankings, but losing conference games in the Big 10 or Big 12 is grounds for dropping out entirely

I expected this when I saw Taylor and Fluff were gonna be out so I am not shocked at all.

I dont think Puckett looked too bad out there, he had some freshman mistakes for sure but he didnt have bad numbers. He got more comfortable as the game went on as did our rbs who showed flashes of potential towards the end there. I think they got some valuable snaps for the future in today even if the end results leave something to be desired.

Hopefully next week we can bounce back at home and maybe get some of our injured players back in action

4

u/yaboicyno Mississippi State Bulldogs 21m ago

That’s what’s the most frustrating. I had accepted we were going to lose, but you’ve still got to show up and play. The only guy who looked like he wanted to be there was the walk on QB and a little bit of the 4th string RB at the end. Not a confidence builder towards Lebby for me (there’s basically none to build on anyway).

It seems that MSU has been over rated this season.

I hate to see this for Mississippi State. I don't know if they need to recruit better or use the portal more, but you can't hinge your entire season on two players always being healthy and on their A game. Kamario Taylor and Fluff Bothwell are great players, but you need to have more than two capable guys on your roster if you want to win games.

Even if the lines are the hardest positions to portal, in the current era, the lack of depth is an indictment on Lebby as a head coach. If he fired Hutzler after year 1, the defense would have more depth. That he hasn’t recruited or developed o-linemen is even more on Lebby

I still say we haven't beaten a quality team. Miss State is a defanged football team with all the injuries. Yet even though we knew they had to run the ball, the bulldogs still ran up a lot of yards on us. Yeah we might beat Texas and Bama at home, but is that really saying anything?

I would say yes, beating Alabama would say something. Texas, less so, but still a nice win. At the end of the day, you can only win the games that are on your schedule

Pulling games like this out of his ass is why Joey Freshwater is always employed.
