If you took away the last name there also wouldn't be 500 fucken posts about him every day
I put more blame on the adult in the room who has now failed twice on a row to develop a super highly rated recruit. The one who has had YEARS of disappointing offenses while having great players

Honestly one of the most interesting “what ifs” in CFB surround what would happen if Ewers never reclassified. Would’ve sat as a freshman under CJ, no Kyle McCord in ‘23, definitely huge ripple effects for recruiting the next few years, and on the Texas side, Arch can start a year sooner.
11
u/Advanced_Special Texas Longhorns 33m ago
Unsubscribe. Quinn ran the offense well, got us to the playoffs twice. Arch was obviously not good enough to replace him his last year. Arch has proven he doesn't have the mind to play the position

u/runningblack Yale Bulldogs • Penn Quakers 1h ago
There also wouldn't have been tons of commercials about him which is where I actually think this all started.
Like yes he's a Manning. But also, he was plastered all over television in commercials long before he had done anything on the field.
Unforced error that raised expectations. But he took the money, and with the money comes expectations.

Do I have my head up my ass? I dont even remember seeing him in a commercial. He could certainly be in many more commercials than he has if he wanted to. Say what you want about the football field, but all I have seen from him off the field is that he is a soft spoken, humble, kind kid.
29
u/runningblack Yale Bulldogs • Penn Quakers 1h ago
This year he hasn't been all over the TV.
When the hype started several years ago, he was. Like the fucking warby parker commercial that was inescapable

Now that you mention it I do remember those commercials but at no point was this guy "all over my TV." If he wanted to be all over me TV, he could have. But he main argument you are trying to make here is falling flat with me, I think it feels personal. I don't see what he has actually done to deserve the hate
1
u/KennysWhiteSoxHat LSU Tigers 11m ago
The hate is personal? I don’t agree with hate on anybody but the criticisms are valid. He was being used to promote the new CFB game as well for another commercial off the top of my head, and he had a lot of hype before being named a full time starter. The media was also all about Arch and everyone on social media was saying bench Ewers for Arch, that’s why you have posts saying they apologize to Quinn. Just because you haven’t seen it doesn’t mean it’s not real
18
u/roythhh_lewithhh Vanderbilt Commodores 1h ago edited 53m ago
Well it sounds like YOU should get your eyes checked. At Warby Parker you can book an eye exam for as little as $134 and a glasses exam for as little as $189. That’s Warby Parker. I’m lovin’ it.
12
u/Advanced_Special Texas Longhorns 36m ago
Arch's super high recruit rating was based on bs. Hey played 3A ball against flimsy defenses, and he didn't have great numbers either. Everyone just assumed he could play based on his name. I'd say Quinn was probably overrated too, but he could atleast run the offense, good enough for the team to make back to back cfp final fours. Yeah he got drafted low, but he got his shot in the league and he's just not good enough to start. Tons of 5* qbs end up busts in college, most never get drafted

Yep. If this was just some low rated player who failed to live up to his family’s name (like Michael Jordan’s kids, Shaq’s kids, etc.), then I’d feel really bad for him for receiving this level of national criticism.
But he’s been making $5 million per year in NIL for several years simply for being a Manning, despite his college tape demonstrating that he was at best a 3 star recruit.
1
u/Sir0inks-A-Lot Florida Gators 14m ago
I’m convinced that his family knew he wasn’t going to hack it in the NFL so they leaned into the hype to get Arch his bag in college, knowing there’s almost no chance of the second contract payday.
I’m hoping he transfers to Miami next year and goes full heel
29

Nobody would be doing so if his family didn't have a PR team for him literally from like his freshman year of high school pumping him up past where his talent is.

I don't think it will be anywhere near as bad as Sanders who just went into the draft process with the worst attitude, but I see Arch having a draft day slide if he declares this year.
The only thing that would prevent that is Haslam being the idiot he is and taking him wayyy too high.
1
u/oorza Tennessee Volunteers • Miami Hurricanes 29m ago
It's really hard to imagine him declaring this year unless he has some kind of late season surge. This is reportedly a talent-heavy draft and any slide will be exacerbated by the composition of the draft class, whereas he'll be in a much better position the following season.

I’m just gonna leave this comment here, but Arch Manning stats are shockingly similar to Iowas QBs stats. Like, they’re the same.
Edit:
Arch is the first stat, Iowas are the second. Both teams have had their bye.
Passing yards: 1,295 vs 1,242
Completions/attempts: 106/166 vs 110/175
Completion %: 63.9 vs 62.9
Passing TDs: 11 vs 9
Interceptions: 5 vs 2
Yards/attempt: 7.8 vs 7.1
TD/INT ratio: 2.2 vs 4

Did the coach make Arch fumble twice, throw a should-have-been pick, and completely miss wide open receivers? Arch can’t play at this level of football. It happens.

No, but the idiot HC did decide on 4th and inches to run it up the middle FROM THE FUCKING SHOTGUN.
Arch sucks, that's true. Sark is a fucking moron and a terrible head coach. This is also true.
4
u/GotEggs 1h ago
The coach went for it on 4th down twice that cost them huge. Right before half and then AGAIN in the second half.
Absolutely cannot do that as a coach, like Booger kept saying, you give momentum to a team just before half knowing they get the second half kickoff.
It’s a first start for the Florida QB and Sark kept giving him chances to show up.1
u/Advanced_Special Texas Longhorns 26m ago
Yeah that was a bad call on Sark, should've just qb snuck it on the 4th down. But we don't get to that situation if Arch executes his passes. On that series he almost overthrew Cam in the flat, causing Cam to have to leap for the catch, and get tackled immediately, eliminating any yac on what would've been a first down. Then they got stuffed on the run twice to turn it over on downs. He often throws his the rx out of the play on short throws, turning what should be a 7-8 yard completion to a 2 yarder. He just sucks at the position
12
u/FXcheerios69 Nebraska Cornhuskers 1h ago

I mean... Peyton's career and Eli's 2 SB's do a lot of lifting (and it's mostly just Peyton) for the Manning legacy.
Eli was a mediocre QB.
Archie Manning had way more INT's than he had TD's in his career with a 55% completion percentage and never reached the playoffs.

I've actually thought about this in a bit of a more niche way... if he were still Peyton and Eli's nephew, and people knew it, but his last name weren't Manning (i.e. they had a sister and he were the sister's son), I wonder what his recruitment would have been like. If his name were, like, Arch Johnson, or something. Maybe it still would, but I'm not sure.

He would’ve still got media attention but not on this level (unless he was actually good). He probably would’ve played at some mid P4 private school. Being a Manning nephew would be one of those annoying facts that commentators say every game and act like no one has heard before.

Last year he had some leeway because it was his first year as a starter. This year is all of the same stuff. This is his 4th year at Texas and second as a starter. He's mediocre. He's a guy you see on a team struggling to make a bowl or a G6 team, not a team expecting to make the playoffs. If he wasn't a Manning is may have been benched last year, but definitely this year.
I don't know what Texas has behind him, but if they can't do better than this then someone has to put the blame on Sark for not understanding his own roster.

This seems like a bit of an exaggeration. Sure he's not playing like his high school ranking or a QB on a playoff team, but I'm sure most of the G6 and many mid-lower P4 would gladly take a QB like him over their current situation. He's not elite, but I think it's safe to say he's above average still.
