Tavian may be the guy. Luke looked lost

I can't help but feel like if TSC was going to take over in a situation like this, he'd have been taking second-team snaps against Ball State and Kent State.

True but at least he's mobile

Fahey's best play was drawing a late hit on a scramble, just sayin'

No argument here. I was saying TSC was more mobile

Maybe Fahey's looked better in practice, but can't imagine putting worse film up than that. Extremely rough situation on the road. Maybe it's not indicative of Fahey's ability, but damn, St Clair. You wouldn't have looked that bad, right?

I’m not opposed to the idea that with a bye week and time to reconfigure the offense a bit, Fahey can be serviceable in the short term. It’s why the win was so massive. It buys the team a loss that may not have happened with a healthy Sayin.

Klatt pointed it out that Fahey was breathing so heavy it almost looked like he was dry heaving. That’s about as insane a spot you can put a true freshman backup into lol.

Top 5 on the road against the defending champs. Oh and its 2nd and 28? Yeah I think he did about as well as you can as a true freshman in that spot.

Yeah, I'm not judging Fahey by this game going forward. Going in in that situation is rough. Then the offense did him no favors at times putting him behind the sticks.

What he looks like in two weeks is what will matter. Worst case the 'fuck it Smith is down there somewhere' passes that Sayin relies on can be made by anyone.

TSC had some of the worst HS competition you'll ever see. The staff would like nothing for him to be the guy but it's been clear for a long time now that he isn't ready. Fahey beating him out speaks volumes

Worst HS competition, but by far the most athletic of our qb's. Fahwy is clearly being chosen because he has a better head for the offense in practice, but he absolutely can't be it when you need any athleticism vs decent opponents.

Fahey will probably have a short leash. I'm just saying I don't think we should be setting the bar too high for either of them. Just gotta survive

There shouldn't be a leash. There needs to be an open competetion with the understanding by coaches that just because one can run offense in practice doesn't mean they can do it in a game.

Yes there should. Today was not representative of a QB and gameplan with a full cycle of preparation. Maybe he's ass but he absolutely deserves the first shot and a chance to fail. The competition was settled for that months ago with plenty of opportunities for TSC to change it in practice

If our backup isn't prepared to come in during situations like today, then something is wrong with coaching. A backup has to be ready. Kenny G was ready. Cardale was ready. Haskins was ready.

Those guys aren't on the team in the NIL era. The drop off is much steeper

Exactly my point. Players don’t stick around if there’s a young good starting QB. A year yes, 2-3 now way they do what Kleinholtz did and transfer to Louisville.

Haskins was a red shirt freshman. KG was not a high star player. Cardale was in competetion for the #2 spot until the season was there. Other teams have also had good backups. We can also afford top NIL backups.

You're not even trying to have a good faith argument lmao. All of those archetypes are better than a true freshman. And it's not about affording them or not. Players don't stick around when there's a starting job available

WAH WAH WAH!!!😩

You can’t act like it’s 2014. The talent distribution has changed. Just quit bitching and moaning. Probably every single serious national title contender would likely have their title hopes dashed if their starting QB was out for the rest of the season.

Fahey’s looked better in games than TSC. Which makes sense given that the coaches think he’s better.

Cardale was a red shirt sophomore, Guiton was redshirt junior. Only Haskins is comparable in age and team experience. Now with NIL you don’t have these older QBs sticking around to count on.

1

u/TheWorstYear Ohio State • Cincinnati 2h ago

JSC is a redshirt. He should be ready If we don't have someone waiting in the wing, who is our qb after Sayin leaves?

We're 100% getting a portal qb next year. Fahey is a bench player and TSC is probably transferring.

Imagine that. The true freshman thrust into the one score game in a rocking away environment looked out of his depth. Shocker.

The reaction to Fahey's performance is absolutely absurd to me. True freshman, top 5 game, road environment, put in on the spot, yes, of course he struggled. He also was almost certainly told to prioritize not making a mistake over pushing the ball in any meaningful fashion. Didn't help that Arthur Smith called exactly two roll outs, one of which was stopped before it began due to a false start. The game was called like Sayin was still in

5

u/IMASHIRT Ohio State Buckeyes • Tulsa Golden Hurricane 1h ago

I agree. Bo Jackson should I have been out there every single snap with him. O Line also continued to fold. Fahey didn’t really make any bad mistakes except arguably the grounding. Even then at least he got rid of the ball. He even hit a big run and drew the late hit to keep that first drive alive.

TSC... Did someone say Third String QB? That's worked for us before.

10

u/FrostTroll69 Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

Instead of 12 gage, it can be 9mm

If TSC can't beat a Freshmen who was hyperventilating I doubt he is. Unless they had Luke as a backup simply because he grasp the playbook better TSC might not be the one

7

u/California_Stop_King Ohio State • Ohio Dominican 1h ago

Yeah, I'm going to trust that a true freshman isn't above St. Clair for no reason, even if St. Clair is seen as the chosen one. I'm sure the coaching staff wanted any reason for TSC to be the backup if/when a moment like this came

14

u/Nightcinder Ohio State Buckeyes 2h ago

most true freshman would look lost in that situation lol

2

u/Appropriate-Rub-3909 1h ago

He was the 2nd string QB, and then rapidly declined all throughout camp and practice. Then in his games he did play, just looked like a hot mess. Both QBs today definitely didn't play good, but that's gonna happen when you can't get any protection and you're just thrown into a hostile environment with the game on the line lol

1

u/Buckeye_45 1h ago

Injuries on the offensive line, and I think they tried to protect him by limiting the playbook. All that did was let Indiana tee off on him. Let's use the bye week to get some guys healthy before we pass judgement in a true freshman thrown into the fire of a top 5 road game.

1

u/decentsized 5m ago

Ryan Day told TSC that he "can't play football, here. You aren't what we need at QB" during camp. Which is why Fahey has been taking the snaps. TSC to enter the transfer portal after the season.
