39
u/RulersBack Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago
TSC had some of the worst HS competition you'll ever see. The staff would like nothing for him to be the guy but it's been clear for a long time now that he isn't ready. Fahey beating him out speaks volumes
9
u/TheWorstYear Ohio State • Cincinnati 1h ago
Worst HS competition, but by far the most athletic of our qb's. Fahwy is clearly being chosen because he has a better head for the offense in practice, but he absolutely can't be it when you need any athleticism vs decent opponents.
10
u/RulersBack Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago
Fahey will probably have a short leash. I'm just saying I don't think we should be setting the bar too high for either of them. Just gotta survive

I can't help but feel like if TSC was going to take over in a situation like this, he'd have been taking second-team snaps against Ball State and Kent State.

Imagine that. The true freshman thrust into the one score game in a rocking away environment looked out of his depth. Shocker.
10
u/California_Stop_King Ohio State • Ohio Dominican 24m ago
The reaction to Fahey's performance is absolutely absurd to me. True freshman, top 5 game, road environment, put in on the spot, yes, of course he struggled. He also was almost certainly told to prioritize not making a mistake over pushing the ball in any meaningful fashion. Didn't help that Arthur Smith called exactly two roll outs, one of which was stopped before it began due to a false start. The game was called like Sayin was still in
42
u/Skidda24 Ohio State Buckeyes • Illibuck 1h ago
If TSC can't beat a Freshmen who was hyperventilating I doubt he is. Unless they had Luke as a backup simply because he grasp the playbook better TSC might not be the one

Sure Fahey looked bad today, but when your backup comes into a top 5 game and you're winning, you're also not going to put much trust in him if you don't have to. They played conservative ball, and I just hope that's not what he actually looks like in a full game if he starts the next game.
44
u/dip_tet Ohio State Buckeyes 1h ago
I understand what you mean, and the pressure was insane to have to come in like that, but his tosses looked awful. One pass went directly into the helmet of his O lineman

u/FoundTheShithead Auburn Tigers 1h ago
Oddly it's the Northwestern and Nebraska games I'd be most worried about as a Buckeye fan. Northwestern and Nebraska are tough, scrappy teams. It feels more likely we'll see Ohio State in another rock fight with those two rather than Paper Tiger USC, Oregon missing their star QB, or Michigan.

He got out of the huddle to throw after being sacked. They threw him the ball and his throwing arm literally couldn't move to the ball. He just dropped the ball and ran to the sideline.
It's gonna be rough without him. Overall I'm disappointed St Clair isn't far enough along that we have a true freshmen starting. This would be his time to shine but clearly he isn't the future.

Oregon was praised as the only team to somehow convince capable starters to take a gap year as backups (Moore for Gabriel, Raiola for Moore).
That theory got nuked to oblivion last week. There probably 0 title hopeful teams with backups capable of keeping the ship afloat.
6
u/ewest Oregon Ducks 51m ago
For sure. And, further, Case Study 1 for that (Moore 2025) over time looked less and less like he benefited much on balance from the so-called gap year.
A year spent 'learning the offense' only to be playing in a system arranged by Drew Mehringer with QB techniques taught by Koa Ka'ai might as well have been spent playing CFB Revamped or Roblox. I think those guys diagram their plays in crayon.

Watching fahey's physical limitations is infuriating when St. Clair has it all and sits behind him. If Fahey plays bad we need to try St. Clair full stop.

For the folks defending Sayin - being asked to not overthrow/take a sack/throw away the ball on every instance of pressure is not asking too much of your Alabama transfer, formerly Heisman candidate Junior QB. Against Indiana, Miami, Texas, and today again against Indiana - he's done absolutely nothing beyond the bare freaking minimum at the QB position. Missed wide open receivers, bailed out on numerous occasions by outstanding receiver play.
We've seen plenty of college QB's face the pressure and perform. Hell Mendoza in our game against him last year had pressure in his face the entire first half & kept composure, came back to take control in the second. Just stop defending Sayin like your lives depend on it and be even-keeled ffs.
Sayin has never, not once had a SINGLE game winning drive in his college career. In every close game he's been a starter, he has underperformed. In every pressured drive, he has underperformed. If that makes you mad, take it out on a pillow. Doesn't change the reality of this team.

It's bad to see Sayin' hurt and it is not a good situation to have the starter out with inexperienced backups. On the other hand, Ohio State seems to have won it's more recent championships (Big Ten & National) when they've had dual threat quarterbacks who have run in key situations.

Who scripted OHio States 1st 5 plays today? We need that guy. Cignetti told you exactly what he wanted to do- hit and rattle the QB. Hey Arthur Smith, that means get the ball out fast and let the best athletes in the big ten do their thing
