Monday morning thread brought to you by players making choices.
A few sessions ago my players ran into a former bandit who was fencing stolen goods while taking care of the orphaned child of his dead friends. One of my players decided to tell the head of the very obviously sinister religious secret police about this guy. In the next session they're going to go by this guy's shop. No killing the kid obviously, but I'm trying to decide if giving the former bandit the Owen and Beru is taking it too far.

Sounds to me like they should read the room a little more. Maybe if it's too much that homie dies, they have the option to go rescue them? Could set it up that a neighbor heard the commotion, didn't see anything, but heard the orphan screaming as the bad guys left. Blood on the floor, but an ambiguous amount that may not lead to death. Obviously the body (alive or dead) isn't there, but could be an opening to something later and depending on how they roll investigation checks, could be a surprise later?

One of the party recruited him as a bandit before he (the party member) also reformed

if thats still a friendly relationship, could lead to an interesting interparty conflict, but idk if your players would feel comfortable with that.
was also thinking you could maybe do a Les Mis Jean Valjean where bandit skips town/fakes death, becomes legitimate in a future town/community, but have they really changed type of thing
