With so many new hunters, mostly because of Silver's meteoric rise drawing them in, there are unfortunately more "bad actors".

I ditched about this too and had very mixed responses. A few downvotes. I hate it but I was talking shit about fellow CRHs. Whatever you do, for the love of God, please do not take these back to your pick-up bank. Peel them, keep what you can, and dump the rest as usual. I recently had a couple boxes like this but found a ton of NIFCs.

Thanks to this sub ( I’m quite new to this as well) I realized it’d be bad to take it back. But yeah man people have been assholes forever

I think there is a difference between reusing MWR wrappers and whatever is going on here. These wrappers are unusable IMO and I would probably make the branch manager aware of it so that he/she might accept the boxes before they accept them.

But carefully opening one end, pushing the coins out and then refilling? I think that is perfectly fine. Especially if you dump at a bank (TD) that you know is not going to hand them directly back out to someone else.

Yeah not afraid to admit that since I dont have anywhere to dump coins I carefully open wrappers and then refill and tape them back up, wouldnt leave them like the ones pictured though

one of the unspoken rules of CRH is finding a dump bank that isnt the same you get them from. try not to be inconvenient

I live in a small town, the closest place that has a free coin sorter is over an hour drive away

u/JLandis84 14h ago

I don’t understand this. You don’t have a place to spend this on ? Like 80% of mine go to fuel and 20% to groceries/restaurants

4

u/actualsmolpeter 13h ago

I'm not spending $500 of half dollars a week, I would much rather just take them back to the bank

2

u/Horror-Confidence498 I Hunt All Coins 13h ago

Can’t think of many places that would be happy or willing to take a bunch of half dollar rolls

3

u/JLandis84 13h ago

I guess I’m out there because I accept gold, goldbacks, silver, platinum, American dollars, Canadian dollars, lego, crypto, jewelry, certain collectibles. A bunch of other shit too. So if someone came in to pay with a box of half dollars I wouldn’t blink an eye.

Most of these people just want to look for silver dump what’s left and go again personally whenever I open a box I save over $100 that I use for change and interestingly enough a lot of people will ask me if I have more.

I feel like you’re the 3rd person to post something like this…. It’s gettin bad out there

u/Formal_Cut3811 18h ago

Can't you just take them back and deposit them at a bank?

8

u/Powerful_Effect3170 20h ago

I tried this a few years ago. Now I have $500 in half dollars in my closet

5

u/gunsforevery1 20h ago

Why don’t you spend them?

4

u/Powerful_Effect3170 19h ago

I’m lazy

4

u/gunsforevery1 19h ago

I take my rolls to the self check out when I get a sandwich for lunch and spend them there.

5

u/Lonely_reaper8 20h ago

If you don’t have a place that you can easily deposit the whole lot, just take smaller $10-$50 lots to banks and businesses and ask if they’ll give you cash. That’s what I use to do. It’s a pain but it frees up the money

8

u/masterofeverything 20h ago

I’ll speak for all business’s, we do not want your half dollars 🤣

7

u/Lonely_reaper8 20h ago

You’re gonna take them and you’re gonna like them

Joked aside I never dumped more than $20 at a business and I drive around a lot so it wasn’t an issue to ask random conscience stores or stop at random banks to see if they’d take some. But I don’t have to do that anymore 😂

I got halves at a casino quite some time ago, maybe try or call

4

u/gunsforevery1 19h ago

I’ve taken them to three casinos. Two of them said anything more than $5 in change would would have to go through their machine (which charges you) the other was a cruise ship snd they put them in a bucket, weighed them, showed me what their computer said it was, if i agreed they paid em out.

4

u/moocat90 18h ago

well dimes quarters and halfs work with this because they are proportional to their weight

2

u/Minimalistmacrophage 18h ago

That's crazy. Casinos usually do it for free because they want you to gamble it.

Guessing that a LOT of roll hunters but be dumping, and not gambling, for that to happen.

3

u/BeenMired 18h ago

Updoot for conscience over convenience. Haha.

4

u/Bitter_Coyote_6074 20h ago

wow, never even considered this as a quick option to check the sides. just strait silver hunting

7

u/Ok-Seaworthiness8203 20h ago

If a bank has more than 100$ in halves make sure they are factory sealed before taking them. I have never found silver in more than 100$ of CRW. Once I picked up 90$ of CRW and got 3 silvers but that was only 1 time.

u/RazBullion 15h ago

I picked up two CWR and a $500 box a week ago. Opened the rolls before my massage appointment and was greeted by a 69 Kennedy.

Edit: my beginners luck was like 3 CWR a few years back, nearly all silver.

u/wow86 19h ago

Don't do what? I'm lost.

15

u/KingFisher194 19h ago

Don't open the sides of the rolls checking silver and put them back in the box to be brought back to the bank

u/wow86 19h ago

O, ty.

The only reason they still make half dollar is because of seignorage. The money the govt loses making the penny and nickel, they more than make up for it with the half. I think it only cost them 30 cents to make a half dollar.

8

u/sharpiez7862 14h ago

This sort of thing never made sense to me… they make $100 printing like 15¢ worth of textile and ink every time they print $100 bills… I think it washes out

You can always do what I do. When I get a box from the bank, I ask the bank teller for a pile of half dollar coin wrappers. The bank has them. All you have to do is ask. And then after I search through the coins, I keep everything that I wanted and the rest I reroll and I actually take it to my local coin shop and buy stuff with it. My coin shop that I go to will actually take the rolled coins.

Half dollars are my go to for miscellaneous tipping. I feel like I’m in the old west when I throw down a stack of halves at the bar.

2

u/MitelMan52 16h ago

I have been fighting this very thing with my CU and Bank, some id10t takes what they want, sometime replaces with old or new 2023/2024 turn a box back in, bank sends it to the sorting place, they add in a couple rolls to make the box full slap some tape on it and back out to another backs order- or at least that’s what I’ve put together in my head.

2

u/cuntpuncher_69 15h ago

Sounds like the bank should have checked that

6

u/gunsforevery1 20h ago

You’re mad that someone is doing exactly what you do?

6

u/RazBullion 15h ago

BuT it's DiFfErEnT

3

u/Inviction_ 19h ago

Why not

2

u/ILBohunk 18h ago

spend the rolls in drive thru for a quick meal !

2

u/CollegeNo6900 20h ago

Yall don’t keep the bicentennials?

2

u/Minimalistmacrophage 20h ago

They are not worth anything over face, except silver with S mint mark. Clad proof with S mint mark does have some small value over face due to lower mintage and being proofs but they still minted 7 million.

Over 250 million of P and D were minted.

1

u/Lonely_reaper8 20h ago

I only keep the silver ones and I’ve only ever found 1 silver bicentennial

1

u/Awkward_Owl_6284 21h ago

I’d be mad too

-4

u/sharpiez7862 21h ago

It’s missing a few as well. Gonna try my luck back at the bank see if they’ll refund that amount I guess

14

u/Willing_Associate_24 21h ago

They will never order for you again. If it’s a small amount I would suggest you eat the loss.

8

u/Next-External-6396 21h ago

agreed eat the loss the worst thing is a branch or even a region of banks stop ordering once problems start popping up.

2

u/West_Inevitable6052 I Hunt All Coins 19h ago

This is the way

4

u/sharpiez7862 21h ago

Good call

2

u/Gmrmr401 20h ago

Wait those open rolls were in a sealed full box?

1

u/blakethick 17h ago

What’s up with the taping of the rolls? Like stop, please. And the Sharpie on every coin? Are you marking your territory?

2

u/beer_me_bro82 15h ago

This week I got 3 rolls of quarters in one batch with what felt like lube on every quarter. People suck.

-4

u/DependentPineapple87 20h ago

Really so much wasteful coins being made for just getting them to look through and returned.
