How to help a friend get connected?
Hi, I'm not a student at CSU but my friend is. She's a sophomore and lives off-campus. Me and her have been friends for a long time (and even dated briefly but are just friends now). I and the rest of her friends are going to university along the east coast. She feels very isolated and is in a really bad place mentally, and I'm not sure how to help her with being 2,000 miles away. Is there any organizations or student events that I can help her get connected to? Any websites or places that I could send her looking would be greatly appreciated. I really care about her and want her to get connected to people so she doesn't feel so lonely.

The Health District of N. Larimer County has a mental health connections program if she’s looking for therapy or psychiatry.

My first suggestion would be to get a job at a very social place (ie: food service: coffee shop, bar/restaurant) where she's bound to meet both co-workers and customers. My second suggestion (if she can't or doesn't have the available schedule for a job like that) would be to hang out at those places (studying, just reading, etc).
Otherwise, what's she into? Seek out opportunities to engage in the activities she enjoys and meet folks that share those interests.

You are a good friend to be looking out for her. I saw your response about her liking to play video games. Does she play roadblocks? My daughter is a sophomore at csu, transferred mid year during her freshman year and loves to play roadblocks. She is a bit of an introvert (and is currently sick) but I could see if she would be comfortable in reaching out. She is a great person that has been pushing herself to get out of her comfort zone a bit more this year.

This website has all the student organizations so I would suggest she browse that and see if there’s anything interesting.
If she is LGBT or a person of color, if not they still welcome anyone to events
The health center has therapy and support groups

I’m a mental health professional who works with CSU students and helps them adjust to college life, providing them with support and different ways to connect to the community. Please feel free to reach out if you feel I could be of help. https://www.fococounseling.com/

CSU offers free mental health counseling, definitely a good resource to check out if she is interested in therapy. I used this resource often throughout my time as a student, and wish I had known about it sooner!

Hi! I’m the president of CSU’s One Health Club. One Health is the intersection between environmental, human, and animal health. In my mind pretty much everything falls into One Health in one way or another regardless of what your friend’s major is.
We’re a small group so that pretty much guarantees some human connection. She wouldn’t be able to come to a meeting without someone trying to get to know her! Feel free to DM me if this seems like something she might be interested in. We typically meet first and third Tuesdays at 5:30 with some exceptions if we have a workshop or field trip etc instead.
