While overall the campaign is great, what they did with Makarov in the new reboot timeline compared to the original Makarov is a genuine disgrace. Guy went from almost single handedly causing World War 3 and the invasion of the US from just being a minor villain who gets beaten to death in an alleyway.

As a small, small technicality, Archer is closer to og Makarov(atleast in terms of aura).

u/Mac_mellon 12h ago
technically speaking, he is a Makarov, Makarov Sr. to be exact. Had SHG didn't fumble Makey in the last game then he could still be the main villain in this, Archer is just a bandage fix for Makarov in the end

i think it's because when MWIII happened, IW had to fix the damage they didn't make

Yeah I remember a video months ago where some YouTuber explained an event they went to where they told them Makarov was beaten to death in the 2nd mission and allowed them to tell the public.
It sounded like they never intended to have Makarov in the reboot at all but SHG was handed MWIII. So I feel like they wanted to get rid of him as soon as possible.

Okay what's the deal with Makarov's dad? I remember reading in his MW2023 operator file his dad was killed in 1991 or 92 when the Soviet union fell and was hanged. Did they retcon that or how is archer Mak's dad?

u/Mac_mellon 12h ago
bad communication between studios, those info are in character bio which almost nobody read, might be the case at IW

u/Lilith_o3 9h ago
That's why they called his dad to step in. Reboot Makarov was so badly written they had to replace him in the end.

The manner in which he got killed was fitting for how the character was in MW23, just a spoiled oligarch kid. Fuck him

To be fair, this Makarov wasn’t really well received and I think making a heel turn was the right call

u/Ducky935Alt 3h ago
i think IW letting us bash his face in was an apology for making reboot makarov.

Nolan - in chase scene for Makarov he went flying.

I still can’t figure out why Graves looks completely different to MW2 graves, it almost looks like a completely different person, the mw2 model looks so much better.

Calling it now. He looks weird so "I wasn't in that armor" can happen. Therefore being able to appear in the next game.

u/OutlawEmmy 2h ago
Absolutely! They dyed his hair and his famous scar on the cheek and ear is gone.

Is there even a timeline where Captain Price lives to die of old age instead of getting killed?
10
u/AltGunAccount 13h ago
He lived in the OG game trilogy yeah?
-7
u/Pixel22104 12h ago
No he didn't. He died right at the end of the original MW3 after he killed Makarov
15
u/AltGunAccount 12h ago
Idk seemed like he smoked a cigar and the screen faded out.
Pretty ambiguous actually, I could see a case either way, whether he lived or died.

u/Aggressive_Pin_7497 10h ago
Yes it is heavily implied that he died of rapid onset lung cancer. The mysterious man that was meant to appear among the shadows as the screen fades, but the was cut out before release is widely believed to be the Marlboro man.

This is probably good (i wanted to spoil myself). May buy mw4 then if this is what happens.

I'm really not sure how I feel about Price's death. It just feels like such a poor treatment of the face of the Modern Warfare franchise behind Ghost to turn him into this John Wick trope. I dont like the fact that theres nothing left of TF141
4
u/ShinigamiPersonYes 10h ago
Same and for a game that was supposed to conclude their story the fact that we barely saw Gaz and Ghost but also the fact that they only had 5 missions (the final 6th one is short and isn't even really a full length mission) is just disappointing
1
u/Lilith_o3 9h ago
Exactly. Price was the face of COD since time immemorial (older COD games). In the OG, he killed Makarov but all of his team members were dead by the end, making it more tragic.
Making Ghost the lone survivor now doesn't make any sense. He's not the one who made stupid choices. Maybe because of the booktok girlies??? Idk at this point anymore
Also, just wanna rant. Since they killed Price, Ghost didn't even try to help the man when he saw him wounded? Just like the way he immediately ran to Soap, checking for heartbeat. Man, it would hurt more if he tried to save him bec after all, he was his teammate and friend in the 141, but failed in the end.

u/AGoodN_IsADeadOne 14h ago
It would have been neat to see Ghost on that list too. Seeing all the seething online would have been hilarious.
7
u/AltGunAccount 13h ago
They gotta set up the next game, Ghosts reboot that actually features Ghost this time.

As much of a low bar this is to clear, MW4's campaign wasn't bad.
It wasn't a masterpiece, but it's definitely a marked improvement over MW3.
And IW clearly took the criticisms of the games feeling like MCU slop to heart by offing so many established characters in the one game. And clearly ending the MW timeline by having Price die when they could've dragged that shit out for another game. That took restraint.
It's probably setting up a Ghosts remake but still, credit where it's due.
Multiplayer is still movementslop though.

u/Lilith_o3 9h ago
Yeaa they could have added another game to explain the Russian Invasion too alongside the SoKor. But I guess it's gonna be too much of a drag. Oh well. At least MW4 is much better from MW3 that doesn't exist in my mind.

u/skunky_jones 6h ago
Saying it’s better than MW3 is like saying it’s better than eating cold shit that’s been sprayed with piss

Everyone got killed off

u/totallynotapsycho42 12h ago
What will they do for 5?
They only went back to modern warfare after Infinity wards attempts to start a new sub series flopped

Don't care about any lol. The reboot campaigns were more of an animated movie Than a game. I Had 0 attachments to the characters.
