Been rewatching Series 1: some thoughts
Both Charlie’s future dead wives on one shift-seems portentous
Clive drinking on duty, Charlie smoking in Crash, Baz taking uppers because she was a dirty stop out-you didn’t get that on ER
When Charlie gets Baz into bed he has the most hideous pastel bed linen and I think it’s the same house he had all the time
Ewart is obsessed with his Walkman and it’s oddly pure
Megan’s hysterectomy, Baz’s sluttish tendencies, Duffy’s rape, Charlie casually asking teenage girls about their periods-we were not squeamish about women’s bodies and I am HERE FOR IT
Patient stories are quite something-often no build up and no resolution-woman comes in with baby she kidnapped, it’s dead, no further plot. Kid drinks poppers and dies as you do. Suicidal woman hates her baby, crack on. A lot of people who had been thrown out of mental hospitals basically hanging round reception which would be very truth in television for the time. Surgeon’s friend sexually abusing his son-Charlie made the surgeon confront him: we never get an outcome.
Nobody uses Duffy’s first name in any context until she’s raped. Even then it’s in passing. She has a family of cats living under her sink and is obsessed with star signs, her matronly ball breaker era is still a way off.
Not sure if Kuba is a racist stereotype or I just missed the joke.
Any discussions?

From Surgery to Emergency Medicine
What did everyone think about Nick jordan and Connie Beachump going from Surgeons to Emergency Medicine Consultants and Clinical lead?
I thought it was weird how they swapped Surgery to Emergency Medicine because they were both Cardiothoracic Surgeons which is different to working in the Emergency Department.

🔰 Mod Response Please: can we stop with these auto-generated “megathreads”?
they don’t encourage discussion. quite the reverse.
this isn’t a busy subreddit and the number of these auto threads is mad.
why not spend 5 minutes and cancel the “weekly megathread” while the show is off the air? it really makes the subreddit look bad to have this coming up week after week with no comments and down votes.
just let the sub go back to how it was without all this silly nonsense. people don’t like it
UPDATE: lots of up voting, no posts in favour of the auto threads.
please clarify if these have been dumped.

Tina’s actress is phenomenal
I’m nearing the end of season 34 (ep39) so I’m not sure whether Tina is in it any further than the few episodes she’s been in so far but the scene where her brother died absolutely got to me. I welled up immediately! I couldn’t believe how phenomenal she was for a smaller character! I hope she’s in more episodes.

💬 Discussion I just got to the episode, "Too Old for This Shift" and I have to say, Jacob has officially my new least favorite character on this show after that.
I know the havoc and chaos Kai caused created a lot of damage, but I do not like how he not only basically attacks a literal kid and threatens him, but also how the episode esentially lets this incident slide. I know Grace was badly hurt but it still rubs me incredibly, especially if I were stoop low enough to ask... THAT question, if you know what I mean.

💬 Discussion Where to start?
i have only properly watched casualty from s36 - when stevie joined - and i want to watch some earlier episodes but i dont know where to start. does anyone have any recommendations of a good series to jump into - probably one from the late 2000s/2010s because i don’t want to commit to too many episodes!

next boxset: what do you want to see?
as the title says! what are storylines you’re after?
personally, i’m very worried nicole is having an off screen exit - which is odd, they seemed very invested in her during her first year on the show. i really hope she isn’t. and i hope indie doesn’t either!
i am interested in flynn and stevie, and olly has heavily implied they’re going there. i’m intrigued to see how and i hope it’s not out of character for either one.
i personally, as a stevie fan, would love to see her father appear.
i’d love to see more of the matty/dylan relationship grow. i loved the end of last boxset when matty wanted to go to aa with him. and i think the 40th will really impact them both, and i hope to see them come together.
what about you?
edit: see stevie’s father appear or hear more about their relationship breakdown. a lot of fans have theories and i think many are possible! it could just be emma, but i doubt that. my personal theory is that her mother took her for an illegal abortion when she was a teen. i doubt they’d go there, but ive thought that for years. i’ve seen theories about stevie’s sexuality (her not being straight) causing friction, ive seen abuse theories. whatever it is, i would love to learn more!

👀 Spoiler 40th Anniversary episode Spoiler
Despite not watching the last season, I wanted to give this a watch and boy, I'm glad I did. Finally got to see some proper action scenes, the explosion, the destroyed hospital, the ambulance going off the road and into the water. Have really missed those.
Love the pacing of this episode, the cinematography was wonderful and the score was perfect. and if that had wanted to end the show this could've served as a good finale, getting to see Flynn and Stevie recovering. That lovely scene with the food in the breakroom.
Glad it ended up not being a terrorist attack but a storage issue even though were several hints at terrorists brining explosives into the hospital. the guy/s with the bag/s, the taxi driver with the box and praying with his crucifix. must've been a really bad storage for it to blow that badly. i one mean oxygen cannister exploding is bad. so it must've been a few for that level of explosion. i mean did see images of a destroyed ward after some guy smoked while on oxygen. killed 8 people.
And I loved Dylan, he was by far the highlight of the episode. As someone with ASD, his breakdown was so realistic, especially with him shutting himself away and holding himself like that. The bit with the bag, my god, but taking it out of the hospital made sense in a way. But also it was clear he wasn't thinking straight at all. Honestly, Will Beck deserved an award for his acting in this episode.
I was so expecting Stevie to die. I knew Flynn wasn't going anywhere. Loved Indie shinning in this episode. Liked Iain having a minor role, not doing any insane heroics (even though i do like Iain). maybe becoming a dad has made him more responsible.
Nice to see Ethan and Charlie.
Too much CPR happening I think. I think in a situation like this, huge number of severely injured casualties, if someone is going to or has gone into cardiac arrest, CPR is attempted for only a short period of time then stopped because it is unsurvivable and there other people who will survive and need the resources more. sadly its about giving the resources to people who are slightly still severely injured but have a chance of survival not about doing everything to save those most seriously injured which would be the case in a non mass casualty scenario. definitely wouldn't have been doing a surgical airway, but obviously, that was important to the plot. Chicago med did a mass shooting incident episode, so a mass casualty scenario, and that was the system there. Injuries likely to be fatal within a certain time frame or not breathing, move on. Its a horrible situation, heart-breaking to imagine it happening it real life.

Will Beck and Elinor Lawless shortlisted for Best Drama Star at the Inside Soap Awards🖇
I think voting has closed now but how lovely for them both to be shortlisted, against eachother and two Waterloo Road actors but either of them could take it, two of the strongest actors Casualty have ever had, plus with Will Beck the recognition is 15 years overdue, he is an outstanding actor. Best of luck to them both❤️
