Smol Delivery Heard Meowing as I was Walking to My Car…
I was walking back to my car after dinner and heard possibly the loudest meows I’ve ever heard. I managed to coax this girl where I could grab her (didn’t see or hear sounds of mom or siblings) and only had a box of protein shakes to get her home. I have her set up in my bathroom with wet food mixed with warm water (as advised by the emergency vet I called), water, and a litter box. I’m going to put in some blankets for her for overnight until I can get to my regular vet tomorrow. Any other advice for now? I think between 6-8 weeks, but she’s only about a pound and a half according to my scale (and the struggle it was to get her to stay still). I haven’t had a kitten in so long, and my adult cat is very weirded out.

This is the time if year when all voids need to be sheltered. Thank you for taking her in.

My youngest, a calico sweetheart, was thrown out of a moving car at over 50mph under an overpass on Halloween two years ago. The car behind skidded to a stop around her, and we pulled over to block the lane from the opposite side. Don't think I let my car stop before I jumped out to assess. It was downpouring rain, and she was soaked. Thought she was dead. Swooped her up in my back pocket kitchen towel to help dry her and warm her up as she laid in my lap with the car heat on full blast. Personally nursed her back to health until she was able to fully join my cloiter.

I hate that my mind went to a dark place immediately when I read your comment and was, I’m pretty sure, right.

A bit of an update: Thank you for the recommendations! I have some blankets and a box set out for her, but she’s preferring to stay behind the toilet when she wants to hide so far. She’s discovered the litter box (it’s a bit tall for her, but it’s all I have right now). My friend had some extra kitten food, so she got some of that as well as the adult wet food she already had. I haven’t seen her drink yet, but the food has had a lot of
water. She’s very friendly and very chatty, doesn’t seem cold at all, but I’m keeping a close eye. My vet doesn’t open until 7:30 tomorrow morning, and I have an alarm set to call to see when I can take her in. So far there’s nothing I can see wrong other than being skinny, and her breathing and walking seem all good. I will keep all of you updated when I can :)
Updated emergency kitten room (food bowl added now):

Another update: I took her to the vet, and her is a him! The vet said he’s healthy, just skinny (just under two pounds) and had some parasites. He got his first few shots, dewormer and flea meds, and an appointment for three weeks from now for a second round of everything! I’m picking up more kitten food and a smaller litter box on my way home from work today, and I’m planning on keeping him and my adult cat separate for a few more days until he passes all the worms. I’ll try to update everyone once he gains his weight back and gets to explore my apartment! Thank you all so much. As of now, his name is Protein Shake.

Thank you for keeping your cat separate from Protein Shake until he's cleared and fully vaccinated. Your cat will be besties with P. Shake, just give her time. FYI, the reason he was abandoned by his mom is that she was already on her next litter. Stray moms can get pregnant a short time after birth. He's about 2 months old and feline gestation is only 63 days so when you see a litter on the front burner, the next is already prepping on on the back burner. You absolutely saved him bc there is a very low survival rate once mom moves on.

He's such a sweet little cutie. When I got my cat Lily as a kitten, starting on the night she came I put her on my chest so she knew she was loved and had a home here. Well, now I'll wake up in the middle of the night or morning to find her on my chest or back, haha. Just wanted to share as an idea if possible to bond.

I also had a kitten I thought was a girl, that we named Julia Roberts. Well, her was a him as well... so we switched his name to Patrick Swayze, but it never stuck. So we ended up calling him Commander Kit (government name), which became Little Kit (nickname).

If the litter box is too tall, put some a mat, cloths or other boxes near it to help her.
And place one of your used cloths (a t-shirt or something like that, if you dont have sweaters used) in the place she hide.
That's a beautiful kitten, smudge included.

You're an angel! Thank you for taking in the void, especially in these times. Maybe try cutting a piece out of the litter box for the void to walk through. Great job tho.

She should be okay enough overnight until you can get her to a vet for better information. Check out The Kitten Lady on YouTube for some good tips for how to introduce the little one to your older cat if you choose to keep.

Stay in there and read a book etc as much as possible. Don’t push yourself on her. We’d place the food bowl on our knee and sometimes feed them with a spoon. Our 8 wk olds had a feral mama and was SKITTISH. Slow blink helped too. Thank you, black kitties are sweet ad characters. Te first time I got the scaredest boy on my lap made my week.

Slow blink? That is a bit new to me and I feel silly..but does that mean you do a slow blink at them? I feel like I may have heard of it before, though. ETA: I looked it up and yes, slow blink helps them feel safe and yes I have indeed heard of this before lol

My one boy does several types of blinks now and I wished i understood them all. He did it back originally after about 5 days of getting them and we still do it. His litter bro not so much.

Sometimes running the blankets in the dryer to warm them is a nice touch if baby is cold.

Agree with someplace to hide. Box on its side with a blanket over it? Congrats on your cute void !

Do you have any cardboard boxes in the house? I second the idea of making her a little fort. They like to be enclosed.

I gasped when I read this. I hope whoever did that got karma back. Thank you for saving her. My girl showed up just about two weeks before Halloween. She became the princess of the house. I miss my girl 😢

Maybe get some KMR, hydrate that, and mix with some kitten kibble to see if she'll take that as well. May the Void be with you!

Just sit in the room with her. Keep moving a little closer and use toys. Let her decide when to come to you, she will. If you push to fast it will take much longer.

Hi op,
We have a link to The kitten lady on our sub Wiki or if you can check the hilights under 'It's kitten season ' via our main page there's a lot of help on there including another link to her too. Your vet will no doubt fill you in though. This lilsoot sprite is adorable. 🥰
