Smol Delivery CDS hit us up while on vacation
This little girl was hiding near our Airbnb in the California desert. There were no other signs of cats anywhere in the area, but plenty of coyote signs. She was 6-7 weeks old and only weighed 1.2lbs, which is the weight of a 5 week old. We attracted her with ham lunchmeat, thus her name is Hamantha, Ham for short. We have moved her to the PNW with us. She is now 8ish weeks old and such a love. She has her second vet appointment today and we’re hoping for a large weight gain. She is just now starting to make contact with our 11 year old cat, Rigby. We expect their relationship to be that of the kid and old man from Up.

You wouldn’t say that if you knew her. lol. She’s an ornery imp who is always looking for trouble, but this girl is my soul.

This is the other adopter….they are working on it. Getting closer by the day. Aren’t fighting, but are still apprehensive of each other. We think in a day or two they will be able to be with be with each other without worry of fighting. Will post pics of the two when it happens.

Can't wait to see them! That last picture I can just hear Hamantha saying "hey, hey, watcha doing? Can I do it too? Play with me!" & Rigby is like "clearly I don't see you" 😆🙀😅

There's always going to be one you didn't know about. Cat subs are apparently infinite. :)

Are you familiar with the great Bagagwa on IG that has a sibling named Ham/Hamantha? Also cuteness aside I just want to mention to anyone reading that cats should not have lunch meat as a regular food as the seasonings and salt content can be toxic. Obvi I get that was probably all you guys had on hand and it saved this lil Ham's life, just wanted to note in case anyone reads this and thinks they might wanna try some with their kitties :) What a lovely delivery 💓

u/rigbylover 12d ago
I am not familiar with them. I’ll look them up!
Yeah, she only got ham that first hour. We drove to the nearest store for kitten food (both wet and dry) immediately after she stayed to hang out with us.

I’m the other adopter. She was so hungry and dehydrated. I don’t know if she would have survived another day out there. Sooo many predators…coyotes, ravens, rattlesnakes, scorpions, etc.. There was no way we were leaving her outside for one more night.

Ham 😹 awww - love it haha
Congratulations what a precious little gift!
She’s a cutie and you probably saved her from a pretty gnarly outcome out there in the desert. It is very very hot over here right now even in my Cali hood & I’m only 4-5 miles from the ocean.

😂😂😂 I found a stray & named her Hamantha too. Hammie for short. Only way she’d come near me is if I had lunch meat.

I live in the CA desert and am keenly aware how stray/unhomed/lost cats do not survive long out here due to coyotes. She’s already a fighter ❤️. I’m glad the CDS helped her find a good safe home with you 🐾🐾🐾 .

u/dragon0069 11d ago
Not what we expected for our vacation, but not disappointed. Couldn’t let that thing get eaten by an animal. Would have ruined our trip. Oh, I’m the other adopter of her. She’s such a love. Had our local vet check her yesterday. She’s 2lbs now. In two weeks she’s doubled her weight!

I love the cds! Always brings the best presents! Update on her weight please 🤞 little girl picked the right people.

I wonder what these kitticats think about their life's trajectory. Like, first I'm born outside, then I'm with momma outside, then something not good, then boof I find my forever home with a large cuddly bipedal who loves and protects me...

Think about adopting another kitten so she has a playmate. Your senior cat, and new kitten will thank you.

She is such a cutie! We love Ham 😭
Also, does she have hydrocephaly? I follow a few cats with it and they share similar traits, including being underweight! Also perhaps hypothyroidism/dwarfism?

So many ham puns. Please consider removing the bell from her neck.
12
u/rigbylover 12d ago
We will once she is a little bigger. She is getting into the smallest spaces and we were having trouble finding her before, not to hide but because she’s so curious.
7
u/Frequent_Opportunist 12d ago
I kept the bell on my most recent kitten until it was a little bit bigger also because it was so dark that you could step on it in the shadows and it likes to walk between your feet. Also so I knew it wasn't getting into stuff. I baby proofed the house but it's a big house and a rental so we were figuring it out as we went. Now 3 years later my cat hasn't had a collar on for a long time.

Sweet kitten! But ditch the velcro sandals and switch to Chacos. They're a bit more expensive but they'll last for a long time.
3
u/rigbylover 12d ago
He actually tried Chacos first, but they kept coming loose.

u/SPARKYLOBO 12d ago
Interesting. I've using them since for over 20 years. The only issue i ever had was the soles wearing down.
