Awarded a Cat Found her under our car 2 nights ago
It just started to be in the 30s at nighttime so this feels like perfect timing. I was just wondering if anyone can tell how old she is? She seems like 3 months but im not sure and want to know if she still drinks milk or not. Red cup for size comparison lol shes teeny. She also has fleas but i read that 2 months is too young for flea medication but even if shes like 3 months i was still planning on using dawn dish soap to clean her cuz its more gentle. The inside of her ears are very dirty, does anyone have tips on how to clean them. Thank you everyone!

Difficult to tell the age without looking at the teeth but I would say >8 weeks.
She has teeth so she will be perfectly fine eating kitten food and won't need milk (cow milk is actually likely to cause explosive diarrhoea).
You can wipe her with a damp facecloth, paying extra attention to her beans (if she lets you).
Finally, get her to the vets asap so you can check her for a chip and start her vaccines and parasite prevention + get her fixed.
DO NOT USE ANY PRODUCTS NOT PRESCRIBED TO HER BY THE VET AS IT'S EASY TO OVERDOSE AT THIS KIND OF WEIGHT.
Welcome to the CDS 😄

Thanks for your help - I’m moving to an area where the CDS is active: I’ve never lived where little ones are around and their differences with older cats.

Kittens are like real cats, only smaller and louder.
You will both be fine, I promise.

What a pretty girl! If the insides of her ears look dirty, she probably has mites. A vet can diagnose and give you drops for those.

A gentle dawn bath will give you an idea how MANY fleezies there are.
Eating a flea (which is common in cats as they groom themselves) can transmit tapeworm eggs.
Get her dewormed ASAP. If the vet needs to do a fecal test before dewormer, pay the nice office and do it.
Schedule that spay as SOON AS POSSIBLE.

She's gorgeous! Her eyes have changed color so she's at least 8 weeks old, and no more need for KMR (kitten milk replacement) although she will need to eat complete foods that are specifically labeled as "kitten" until 1 year old. @KittenLady is a great resource. Get a flea comb, they're cheap and available on Amazon or pet stores to check for remaining ones after first bath. Get her to the vet ASAP for first checkup and immunizations + spay

Pretty baby! The Kitten Lady is a great resource for all questions kitten. Get to a vet as soon as able to check health, vaccinate and spay. Shelters will sometimes have a low cost vet you can be referred to,so check that out. Congratulations to you and to the kitten.

The fleas don't stay on the cat, so baths alone won't work unless you also treat everywhere she walks. You'll have a much better time just giving her some advantage plus or whatever the vet recommends. The flea collars are dangerous, as cats shouldn't be ingesting the medicine, and those enable that. Just fyi

OP should consult the vet first to see if she’s old enough for flea medicine.

She's certainly at least two months old, which is the usual age minimum for most treatment. A vet would be good regardless for dosage and to check for contraindications to flea medicine. There are also flea meds for young kittens, just have to get them from an expert

What a pretty little kitten! Thank you for rescuing her. A vet visit is a good idea. We use flea meds from the vet office as the Walmart kind was not strong enough.

Over-the-counter flea meds can also be dangerous and potentially fatal, particularly to kittens.

My 10 year old cat has had filthy ears since she was a kitten. She has been tested for mites twice, and irs always negative. She just makes a lot of ear wax and crud. I use qtips, cats ears are shaped differently then humans so you don't have to worry about hitting the eardrum. But I dont go too deep down inside. And often I wipe the outer exposed parts with a tissue. If you get some of the ear crud, and smear or smush it with a slightly wet paper towel ,if you see red or blood then its likely ear mites. But vets can tell for sure.

Congratulations on your little furry friend ❤️
Give her wet kitten food and for the fleas of course you have to take her to the vet but in the meantime you wash her with Dawn soap and brush her after and every day after to get rid of dead fleas and eggs.

I wouldn’t clean her ears. Let the vet do it because she probably has ear mites and they can clean out her ears safely and give her medicine to take care of them.
Like you said, use dawn dish soap to give her a bath and get the fleas off. Put a ring of it around her neck to keep them from escaping to her head while you wash the rest of her.
Give her high-quality kitten food, where the first ingredient is meat.

Awww she is so cute!! Please keep her. 🙏🏻 I used ChatGPT to help determine the age of the kitten I took in this summer.
