The Cat Distribution System Finally Came for Us

This beautiful diluted tortie was found at my wife's work yesterday under a shed. We took her in when a local rescue couldn't take her. We're calling her Vesper! We just found out shes 10-12 weeks old and in good health. We think she may have been left there since she looks so healthy. We weren't sure about keeping her but she's confident and sweet. We have a 13 year old and a 3 year old tabby girls already. Any advice from tortie owners on what to expect or on how to smoothly introduce a kitten to adult cats?

I can't help you with the introduction thing, but wanted to say how much sheer personality she has! I feel like she's going to be one of those cats who keep you on your toes.

Congratulations on your newest family member. Xx

I have found the smoothest way to be securing the newcomer in her own space for a while and feeding everybody on opposite sides of whatever the barrier between them is. If that makes sense. The biggest thing with cats is food. Even if you think a cat is not very food motivated, no cat likes the idea of another cat in their territory eating their food. Do some scent swapping, like swapping out Versper’s blanket for a blanket the other cats use. Get them used to each others’ scents.

She is precious. I love her little face with the asymmetrical splotches. Dilute torties are too cute

Keep them apart for a week at least and then buy some tuna in water and ( I know this sounds weird but it works and I’ve done it several times) stroke the kitten with tuna juice, It masks her own smell and makes for a neutral scent that the other cats don’t react to, You might find them licking each other or a sniff and a hiss, All the best of luck and she’s Gorgeous xx 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Congrats!

For intros, I put the newcomer in a room by themselves and stack an xl and large baby gates in the doorway so everyone can sniff and get acquainted without getting smacky.

You need to keep them separate for now and introduce slowly. Allow them to smell the other cat under a door for a few days. Then try some supervised visits and see how it goes. Until you are sure no unsupervised play time together.

Edit: also a good idea to get her checked for FIV and FELV. Requires a simple blood test at your vet.

It looks like she has powdered sugar on her snout. I would call her donut!

I’d look into the Jackson Galaxy methods for introducing cats! Lots of helpful info and videos. Vesper is adorable!
