Discussion Looking for co-op game recommendations like Cat Quest 3
Hi everyone!
My partner isn't much of a gamer but they've been REALLY enjoying playing cat quest on switch together. I was hoping people here might have recommendations for other couch co-op games here? Can be co-op RPG (would be great!) or not.
Getting "it takes two" next, but after that stuck for ideas.
Thank you! :)
Edit: we only have switch đ

So I'd highly recommend Dysmantle It has some combat, alot of collecting and some rpg elements. Had alot of fun playing couch coop with my husband.
They've got another game in early access called Dysplaced which is muchvmorenin depth RPG.

I am your partner. Well, not literally but Iâm pretty picky about games. I loved cat quest 2. Also, we enjoyed Yoshiâs craft world, Luigiâs Mansion 3, and any Mario Party. Good luck! Saving this post. Nobody Saves the World is next. All games are on switch

Maybe Unravel 2. Lego games possibly. Perhaps Minecraft dungeons. Binding of Isaac would honestly be the best one for you to play. It would be a real bonding experience

Search "two-player co-op games". You should end up with a decent list.

Everything here.
But also Diablo 3 works great for same screen couch coop and has a ton of content. The basic action RPG perspective is similar to games like Cat Quest even if not as chill and a very different look.
And if youâre willing to go farther back in time and have a PS2, Baldurâs Gate Dark Alliance I and II are classics
A decent number of the Mario games have same-time coop to varying degrees. A few do it well.
Playing the original NES Legend of Zelda without (much) outside help together, making paper maps and stuffâŠnot true coop, but can be very much âtogetherâ.
Child of Light is a unique RPG. The coop is asymmetric, although very valuable if used well. Might work for you or might notâŠ
Just some other ideas. But weâve played almost all the games already mentioned in the comments here too.

How is Pikmin 3 not mentioned? So adorable.
And for a crazier type of humor: Cult of the Lamb

i second castle crashers, my kid and I very much enjoyed cat quest and castle crashers about equally. At least til we got to insane mode, which was too grindy and combo dependent. but theres a whole long awesome game to be played before unlocking that.
it takes two we played a bit and then stopped, wasnt for us.
cat quest 2 in my opinion is better than cat quest 3, so play that if you havent.
death road to canada is also a good time.

My girlfriend and I just finished Nobody Saves the World and we both really enjoyed it. It's pretty similar to Cat Quest in gameplay and the humor is top notch.

Cat Quest 2 - obviously Unravel - I love this game! Rayman Origin or Advanture is available on switch too đ Trine - a little weird character movement for mistaste but the gameplay is great and it has 4 or 5 games.
And remember when playing It takes two it's good to play two tiems so each player can try both characters đȘ

Castle Crashers is a really good RPG style co-op game and has some similarities with Cat quest.
I also really recommend Overcooked.
The studio that made It Takes Two has two more co-op games: Split Fiction and A Way Out.
Unravel 2 is a really funny co-op platformer as well, but kinda short. Also recommend to play part 1, it isn't co-op, but one of the best indie platformers I've ever played.
The Little big planet series is really good as well (also platformer).

Ooh how could I forget LittleBigPlanet in my comment! Highly highly recommend! Grew up with that game.
Sadly most of the DLC has been taken down and with the PSN store closing soon any that are still available will be gone for good. Other regions outside the US have more DLC available but they are not compatible with a US copy I believe.
Sucks the online is gone. Of course there's custom servers but might not be super easy to do? I've never tried. Still can't believe Ayee really did hack the servers if it really is 100% true.
Note LittleBigPlanet 1 through 3 is on PS3 and 3 is also on PS4 and Sackboy's Big Adventure is on PS4/5 and PC. These games are not on Switch.
It is recommended you play each game in order for the story is continued from each game and all items collected and all costumes you've made from the previous games will transfer. Except for 3 on PS4. PS4 does have the automatic unlock items from 1 and 2 though.
Sackboy's Big Adventure does not carry any of your costumes from 3 on PS4.

There is the spiritual sequel to it takes two made by the same devs. Split Fiction.
I assume you two already played Cat Quest 2. If not that has Co-Op too.
Never Break Up is a good Co-Op puzzle platfomer but also is a great party game too.
In this game you and another player are tethered together and you must work together to collect stuff and make it to the end of the stage as fast as you can.
Did read that on Steam some people were not able to load the game at all. Not sure if that still happens or if it happens on Switch. Never heard anything about that on Switch. Only played the beta and I still have it and the beta does load and work so who knows.
Totally Reliable Delivery Service is pretty fun.
It's a team based game where you take on objectives. I could be wrong but I think Switch is limited to 2 players while steam is up to 4.
Was quite fun and chaotic when I tried it. It is on sale on Steam for $1.49 USD if it doesn't have to be on Switch.
Salty Dogs is quite fun and cute.
You are a group of dogs going out to swim in the sea to find treasure and earn money. Think R.E.P.O but you as dogs who swim. Not as scary though. Not sure if this plans to release anywhere else besides Steam. Don't know if there is plans for local play. Only played the playtest. I think the playtest is still downloadable of you both want to try it and have two PC's laptops and or Steam Deck if it runs on there.
Dokapon Sword Of Furry is a great one.
It's a story based game. It's like if a RPG and Mario Party had a baby. That's what it is. No actual true minigames though.
It is only partially Co-Op as you will mainly be going against each other but there will be times where you need to work together. Your main goal? Be the richest by the end of the adventure. It is a game you won't finish in a few hours. You do have the option to set how many in game weeks the game runs for if you rather not go through the whole story and just want to play a bit and not care how far story wise you get within that limited time.
Escape Simulator is great if you guys like puzzles and love escape room. I don't know if it's on Switch. No local play though.
Mushroom Wars 2 is a cute RTS game. You are little characters trying to take over the land and be the last one alive. It has a VS mode that does have a 2 Vs 2 mode.
Pretty fun game. You don't need to play the first game since the story mode is not a continuation from the first one. I'd recommend the Steam version since it has the 3rd chapter of the story which is DLC. Console never got chapter 3. I believe it goes on sale for pretty cheap on Steam.
Tooth and Tail is another good RTS game. Same goal as Mushroom Wars. Be the last team alive. In this game you are rats who must capture windmills to forge for food to be able to grow your army. More windmills equals more food equals bigger army. The game allows for 2 Vs 2 as well for Co-Op play.
Not on Switch though. It is on Steam but also did release on PS4 if must be on console. Steam version is better since it has Steam Workshop support.
You can literally play with Minecraft enemies as your army in the Steam version and play custom maps.
Terraria is a really great 2D sprite based Adventure RPG. Your goal is to get materials and find loot to get stronger so you can defeat the final boss all will trying to get all the villagers to your houses you build.
It's on Switch but is also on everything from the PS3 Era of consoles to the current, PS Vita, 3DS, and mobile. Has Co-Op on console and there is a way to do local Co-Op on one PC but the controller controls on PC aren't as good as console. PC does have T-Modloader to allow modding the game. Pretty awesome and the main way I play Terraria now.
Note Any version pre PS4 are not updated anymore and are on old versions. They did have some exclusive content though that's not in the current console, mobile, and PC versions.
Wii U version allows for seperate screen multiplayer meaning each player gets their own screen. 1 on the TV and 1 on the Wii U game pad. Also supports the Wiimote with Nunchuck. Thats as close to Keyboard and Mouse controls on console.
Make sure you have at least a second profile for local multiplayer on Wii U.
Cross Play is being worked on for PS4/5, Xbox One/Series, Switch, Mobile and PC so lots of options to play together if you prefer a different controller, rather play using touch screen, rather use a keyboard and mouse or play on the go.
Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime is a great Co-Op story adventure game where you and a group of others are in a space ship working together to save bunnies who have been kidnapped. One stears the ship while the others manage the weapons and the shield. Can you save the bunnies and prevent your ship from getting destroyed by the enemies.
It is on Switch but is also on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Don't really how it ran on Switch as I've only tried the Switch version once. Ran great on PC. Even on a old laptop from 2014 with a Nvida 970M GPU.
Super Animal Royale is a free to play cute 2D top down battle royale shooter game where you play as cute little animals that sadly litteraly takes nearly all it's inspiration from Fortnite but also a little from APEX which is a good thing. Even though it takes a lot from Fortnite, it is still quite fun. Been playing it here and there since it released in 2018.
In a recent update they also turned the game into a world sim too a little like Animal Crossing. You can go fishing, go bug catching, talk with characters in the world, even go hamster balling aka Mario Kart so the battle royale is quite optional if you aren't into it. Of course some of the cosmetic are tied to the battle royale via the milestone challenges.
It is recommended that you at least buy the Super Edition DLC so you can wear all unlockable cosmetics cause without it you only get to wear some of the milestone challenges cosmetics. Also earns you double the in game coins forever from matches and let's you unlock legacy items from past events when they return.
If you want to buy the battle pass but can't. Don't worry all battle passes can be purchased at any time. They never go away. Best to buy the current pass since after the season ends it increases in price. Same with the season starter packs. They recently been adding mid season starter packs so yeah there's two starter packs per season now. Starter packs cost 4.99 but then change to 1200 tickets after the season ends. Battle passes cost 550 tickets then cost 750 the next season which is their premium currency you get by spending real world money. Cheapest option to get the battle pass is buying a starter pack which gives you 600 tickets. Alternatively buying the Super Edition for $14.99 USD gives you 1000 with enough to allow you to buy any potential cosmetics you want that costs tickets. 550 tickets equals $5.50 USD, 750 equals $7.50 USD, 1200 equals $12 USD lowest purchaseable tickey opinion that isn't a starter pack is 1000 tickets for $9.99 USD
It is on Switch but runs terribly. Not recommended. Best play on PC, PS4/5 Xbox One/Series, or if you have a Switch 2, thats an option too.
Fun fact, used to be playable on Facebook of all places and in China had a mobile port that has since shut down which originated the hamsterballing mode that then got added to the main game with all new courses.
Bloons TD 6. It's a tower defense game involving monkeys trying to stop bloons from invading. Quite fun. No local Co-Op.
It is on PC but does have console ports for PS4/5 Xbox One, Just recently released for Switch and it's on mobile and is free to download if you have Netflix. No cross play at all. PC and mobile do have cross save though. No cross save with Netflix version. Netflix version can cross play with regular mobile version. It has been made free to keep on Epic Games a few times so if you prefer PC and don't want to spend money buying the game, it could become free again.
Note each console version is based on a different version of the PC release and has wider maps and more placement areas for your monkeys. That is something to consider. Xbox seems to be the most up to date version but is behind in updates. All console versions are.
If you both like management games there is Planet Coaster 2.
It's a game where you try and build the best amusement or theme park ever. It's does not have true Co Op and you can't play at the same time but you both can manage the same park. It's not on Switch though.
It does feature cross play saving between PC, PS5, and Xbox Series to allow multiple people to manage the park when someone else isn't.
PC version allows for modding which allows for more customization. Like being able to have more specific track angles and more track pieces for other coqster models. Want a Launched GCI woody? With modding you can. Of course the launch track will be invisible since it does not have a track piece model with a launch. Modding is not cross play compatible with console. All players require the mods if on PC.

No problem. Added more. Probably will add more if I can think of more. LBP is one of them. Already left a reply on Bartje's comment mentioning it.

After I finished Cat Quest with my daughter, we finished Nobody saves the world, which is in the same style of playing. We also did Broforce, Split Fiction, It takes two, Absolum and are currently playing Children of Morta. Those games have a different style of playing, but maybe it clicks for you too.

Children of morta. This was a huge success for me and my wife. Play it on easier mode if you like
