Cohen Everage was helping look for his friend who ran away from home. After talking to Cohen, officers forgot what he looked like, mistook him for the missing teen and tackled and broke his arm.

In june 2026, Officer William Markle responded to a mother calling for help looking for her son. Her son was mentally unwell and ran away from home after an argument. The mother was calling asking officers to help discipline him and she instructed them to scare him straight by threatening to send him to jail. Next to her also talking to officers is neighbor and friend 15 year old Cohen (some sources say Judah?) Everage. Officers and Cohen then take off looking for the teen.

William Markle had a reputation. He was previously reported for stalking a partner, showing up at his apartment banging on the door and following him to his gym and store. He was also written up for aggressive behavior while arresting a man for trespassing who was sleeping in his car in a gym parking lot. Bodycam footage shows officers circling the area when they see Cohen running down the street. Officer Markle pulls up next to him in the car gets out and yells ‘get on the fucking ground or I’ll tase you’. He seemed to have completely forgotten who Cohen was who he talked to minutes ago. 2 other officers joined Markle in pinning and cuffing Cohen, breaking his arm in the process. They then let him go once they finally realize he’s not the missing kid.

Markle has since resigned from the force and Cohens family is launching a lawsuit. After this incident, Markle posted on Facebook. “I’m sorry what happened to you. I’m not. Off to bigger and better things” in reference to the arrest.

So while you’ll see the headline that they simply got the wrong kid, it’s way worse. Officers agreed to help a mother discipline her mentally ill son by aggressively arresting him. Then brutalized the same kid they were just talking to, because they forgot he was the missing kids friend helping look for him.

"I'm not off to bigger and better things" fuckin idiot

I saw someone say he meant “I’m now off to bigger and better things.” But there’s a full period in between “I’m not. Off to bigger and better things.”

So either he’s refusing to apologize or this is the greatest Freudian slip of all time.

He said he was sorry what happened. Same as “I’m sorry you feel this way”

Then he says “I’m not” as in “I’m not sorry I did it”

Gotta use [sic] when quoting that. insane thing to post.

Can’t read or write. Can’t recognize a kid he just talked to minutes ago. Is this guy going blind or something? Or is he just dumb and racist?

2

u/BestEnough 4d ago

Could be he wrote it on his phone. Double tapping space does. This

2

u/PauseConfident997 4d ago

If it was a mistake why would you not edit it afterwards? He knows what he wrote and he left it there. He broke a kids arm for gods sake, he’s obviously an absolute dickhead.

If you've never interacted with police, this will come as a surprise.

But cops are generally not that different from criminals. Same mentality. They are usually heavy drinkers, take steroids, and want a legal reason to beat someone up.

When a gang wants to take you down, they bring their buddies so it's like 10:1. Thats what cops do. Then they have the nerve to act all "we were so afraid of you!"

No. They want to bully people and the witnesses are there to cover for them.

Hey, that's not fair. Some criminals aren't violent.

u/Top-Examination3151 4d ago

Most aren't actually.

I did ~17 days in county jail. Not prison, but I learned a lot in there.

Criminals have each other broken down further and are experts in identifying actually dangerous people.

The most dangerous person is someone who wants to be in a gang but the gang won't let him in because he can't follow orders.

u/PaisleyRock 4d ago

“I feared for my life” is their get out of jail free card.

5

u/Top-Examination3151 4d ago

Yup! And if you are borderline, your feelings are your facts so they really show the emotion.

They don't even have to show any evidence they tried to leave.

I think in the modern era, if you didn't 1) take a video of the abuse 2) try to leave first

they shouldn't automatically go to arrest.

Pretty sure the mother simply put out a hit job on her kid.

“Scare him straight” to the cops is pretty much pls go fuck him up.

“Pls go fuck him up” about a black kid to cops?

No wonder the kid ran from home.

3

u/madphroggy 4d ago

Yeah, if I had a mother who'd tell cops to beat my ass I'd have mental health issues as well!

-4

u/PauseConfident997 4d ago

Except she never told them to “fuck him up”…while violence can be scary, scaring someone does not equal using violence on them. They could have easily scared him without using violence. But they chose to use violence instead. That’s a choice they made. That they didn’t HAVE to make

5

u/plzicannothandleyou 4d ago

When you ask the cops to scare your kid, they will be pulling a gun or hurting them physically.

Whether or not she knew that, doesn’t really matter. That is what American cops will do.

It’s like telling a serial rapist “you can just dry hump me and touch me over the clothes all you want”

2

u/areallynoobgamer 4d ago

I’m guessing English isn’t your first language.

-2

u/PauseConfident997 4d ago

Thats a stupid assumption to make

5

u/areallynoobgamer 4d ago

That was the polite assumption. Giving you the benefit of doubt.

It was either you aren’t entirely familiar with the language. Or your just lack critical thinking skills.

I’ll break it down for you

First off. If you read. I said. “Scare him straight” is pretty much the same as “go fuck him up”

This is stating that the mother in fact did not use the words please fuck my son up.

Rather, the choice of words she used has the same effect.

How so? For folks who are incapable of higher thought processes. I’ll break it down

This is in the United States of America.
In this country known as the United States of America, there is a very low bar to pass in order to become a police officer.

This coupled with the relatively comfortable wage draws in people who aren’t of the best caliber.

Police are also a figure of authority. So this also draws in characters who like having a little bit of power over others.

Normally, when the two are separated, it is fine. But because of the low bar to become a cop coupled with the natural tendency for people who enjoy power over others, what you have here is

Incompetent abusive cops.

See? This is known as a critical thought process where you read between the lines and are able to determine the cause and effect of things.

Now then. In the United States of America, there is another problem. And that problem is long standing systemic racism. Is this word systemic too big for you? Well it simply means it’s deep rooted into the system.

Despite a much smaller population, people of darker skin colour, are incarcerated at a much higher rate.

Is this due to them committing crimes at an astronomically higher rate? Or is it due to racism from the system targeting the community.

A sane rational person would be able to quickly identify that it is due to racism.

Now, how is this relevant?

Because here we have

A black mother in the United States of America,

Telling the police her delinquent (trouble maker) son has run away from home

To “scare him straight”

So the police being more prone to excessive force for the reasons stated about

And

The racism issue in America.

Makes this what they call a double whammy.

It’s pretty much the same as saying go fuck him up.

I hope this clarifies things for you. I get it may be difficult to digest given your limited capacity for comprehension.

And now it’s a conversation about corrupt racist cops…that’s a different conversation than a mother putting a hit out on her son. As you said in your previous comment. And the way you worded it implies that you think it’s ok for cops to behave that way…seeing as it’s not the cops fault for hurting him, it’s the mothers fault for asking them to scare him? When do we blame the cops for their inappropriate behaviour? Rather than the people that supposedly enabled that behaviour?

4

u/areallynoobgamer 4d ago

Take your time to slowly read.

You’ll get there eventually.

Did you know that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west.

This is a mere observation of facts.

It has nothing to do with whether or not I approve of the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.

Similarly. My observation isn’t going to suddenly stop police from using excessive force. Nor is it going to rid the world of racism suddenly.

You mistake a simple observation to be condoning of an action.

This is why I felt perhaps English isn’t your first language.

If it is, then perhaps do try to go back to school, (clearly a different school since your last one failed you badly) and perhaps you can still catch up to your peers eventually.

I think he’s being facetious in response to your obtuseness.

3

u/areallynoobgamer 4d ago

Was being polite actually. It’s either they aren’t native english speakers. Or they are lacking critical thinking skills.

No matter tho. I have pretty much ELI5 to him. Hopefully it helped him understand.

u/PauseConfident997 4d ago

They said “scare him straight” equals “fuck him up” to cops…telling cops to scare someone is NOT the same as telling them to hurt someone…and if you tell the cops to scare someone and try way physically hurt them, that is the cops fault, not the person that told them to scare them

5

u/kim_jong_il_2d 4d ago

Giving cops that kind of instruction is naive.

0

u/PauseConfident997 4d ago

We can agree on that

7

u/corgi-king 4d ago

I guess the missing kid is not mentally unwell. It is the mother who is mentally unwell. No wonder the kid wants to run away.

I hope the injured kid got millions.

2

u/LarianDivinityBG3 4d ago

What a piece of shit.

26

u/ILiekBookz 4d ago

Why the fuck were they being so violent with someone they thought was a missing child they broke their victims arm?

8

u/northwoods_faty 4d ago

Cops get rage boners when it's someone they can easily hurt.

6

u/FilthyFur 4d ago

Because they like it. That's all there is to it

2

u/BetMiddle1807 1d ago

The cop is probably racist.

-1

u/moher4 4d ago

if i remember correctly, the mother of the missing child told the police to scare him a little

10

u/raaneholmg 4d ago

I think the question still stands...

-5

u/GucciTheSnowman 4d ago

If you don't put your arms behind your back when they ask, they will force you to, usually involving bending your arm backwards with both of theirs forcefully, resulting in many a broken arm.

9

u/MileHiSalute 4d ago

If someone is too stupid to know who they should be asking to put their hands behind their backs and who they shouldn’t, they shouldn’t have authority to put someone in a cage. If your position is “I will bow down to authority even if I’ve done absolutely nothing wrong” that’s perfectly fine, but you forfeit your right to be a part of the conversation

8

u/Guy_gamer112 4d ago

Right? The kid was probably confused too and probably couldn't process what was happening. He just talked to the same guy tackling him. Who would handle that situation well?

16

u/Heart4Cycling 4d ago

And these police or their union should pay the guy instead of the tax payers who had the misfortune of hiring them

7

u/GucciTheSnowman 4d ago

We didn't hire him. The dipshits on "the force" did.

9

u/Tough_Letterhead_163 4d ago

He going to get paid

10

u/crowislanddive 4d ago

When you have a problem and you ask the police for help what do you get?

Two problems and in this case a broken arm.
