A homeless man named Jay returned a wallet containing $2,000 in cash to its owner during a social experiment in New York’s Union Square in 2018. Waqas Shah, who conducted the experiment, deliberately dropped his wallet near Jay to see how he would react. Instead of keeping the money, Jay called after Shah and rushed to return it. When Shah asked why he had given it back, Jay explained that stealing was not something he did.

Impressed by Jay’s honesty, Shah rewarded him with money. However, cameras later captured Jay using his reward to buy three meals from a nearby food cart and distribute them to other homeless people in the area. He chose to help others rather than spend the money only on himself.

Shah later approached Jay again to ask about his generosity. Jay explained that he had always been taught to give back and believed that the more people gave, the more they received. He also revealed that his wife was pregnant and that life on the streets was extremely difficult. Touched by Jay’s story and kindness, Shah gave him additional money. The social experiment’s video later attracted around 900,000 views, inspiring viewers with Jay’s honesty and willingness to help others despite his own hardships.

I mean, that is the entire point of filming these social experiments? Doesn’t take away from the fact the homeless man still returned it instead of keeping it

That is so wonderful . If I am being truthful if i saw a wallet drop and looked in it to see 2 k I would probably pocket the money then put the wallet in a mailbox . I HAVE a job. money, a home and a nice warm bed to sleep in at night so good for him

Doesn’t mean the homeless dude was in on it. They do these “social experiments” all the time. The homeless man didn’t know he was being recorded

How does a homeless person have a wife? Am I missing something?

You might need to elaborate. I think they might be a little slow…

He did drop it as an experiment, so I guess?

I saw another post of a cop who posed as a homeless person in a wheelchair to see if he would get taken advantage of, and the only thing that happened was people trying to help him.

In my anecdotal experience, this isn’t the norm but there are absolutely homeless people who are honest. I was homeless for two years and got robbed constantly by other homeless people, but I always stuck to my ideals and never took from anyone.

I could easily see a homeless person spending a lot of money to help their friends get food. I can't see an influencer drop $2000 dollars on the mere possibility that a homeless person will spend a lot of money to help their friends get food.
