Youth Allowance/Youth Allowance Jobseeker Help with youth allowance

So I had a youth allowance, it got paused when I went overseas (I didnt realise I had to tell them so they paused it - it went overtime and I think I lost it) and then when I came back I submitted another claim since the last one had gone past the threshold period. Then I got a call that they would just reactivate my old one - I got a single 1000 something payment (for the period i missed I assume) and then I haven’t been getting any payments for two months.

Website doesn’t have any notifs for anything I need t do, I’ve submitted documents of my payslips from my job, parents have done their part too. Idk why it’s not working. Will see them in person soon just wondering if there’s anything I’m missing right now.

So with YAL, you don’t get payment overseas regardless (unless it’s for very specific circumstances).

After 6 weeks overseas, payment will go from suspended to cancelled, but if you contact back and request restoration or make a new claim within 13 weeks from that initial date it can be restored. I’m assuming in your case it’s likely that they restored the payment, but then it auto cancelled for failure to report because you didn’t action any outstanding reporting periods.

So this means I need to submit another?

Just a hunch based on the info in the post. Regardless you’d have to ring them to get it restored, but they’ll be able to see what the issue is 😊

I was only gone for 3 weeks. They restored my original one and I got that one time 1k payment. I assumed it would go back to regular 2 week payments but it never showed up with an option to report anymore.

The arrears of approx. 1k would’ve only covered the time between you returning to Australia and being restored, then if there’s outstanding fortnightly reports that would’ve triggered another stop because it would’ve been too long since the last one

Go into a service centre to discuss.
Youth allowance can be restored when you return to aus if you’ve been away less than 6 weeks.
Other option is to book a phone appt so someone will call you to discuss

Why are you going on an overseas holiday if you’re on Centrelink?!

I’m a full time student and don’t have time to take on a second job so I’m on YAL. Parents aren’t super well off but we needed to visit family.

it’s not always a holiday - when i went through this exact situation, it was because my grandparents were in the hospital and it wasn’t looking good (and one passed away shortly after my visit), which was paid for by my dad. Plus, even if it was a holiday, its youth allowance, which is to help out students while they study if they don’t have a lot of income coming in/parents who can support them
