So I've recently started to draw with charcoal more, and as I like to go out to draw at bars, cafes, parks etc, I'm wondering, how would that work with such loose and smudgy medium? Do you carry some sort of mini fixative spray with you or use some other method?

I've been using charcoal powder quite frequently in my drawings, and it's only recently dawned on me that it may be not be a good idea to breathe it in? I don't go crazy with the material, and apply it on paper with a brush. But after months of using it, I do notice small piles of charcoal powder piling up on the edges of my studio.

Is this something you guys worry about? I spoke to a person at a construction safety store and they recommended I buy a 3M respirator with the correct filters. Personally would not want something on my face while I draw.

Perhaps I need to vacuum more often? I know I should not blow on the powder. What are some safety measurements you use in your studios when it comes to dust and powder?
