If you want to quit after one bad day then maybe that’s the best choice for you. You got many bad days ahead of you in this industry and you cannot let one day stand in your way if you want this to be a career. The thing with kitchens is you can have a bad day but it all resets the next day. Strive to do better tomorrow and a little better then that everyday after. This is what will make you good at the job. Dedication and perseverance.

Every mistake you make in the first month is just tuition. The senior chefs chewed you out because they forgot what day one felt like, but the next shift is a clean slate. Show up and ask questions before you mess up, not after.

For context here: how long have you been cooking professionally?

not long enough to be a chef considering how they aren't used to being told every which way they're fucking up

“Oh maybe what like, how long was today’s shift of about 7 hours”

If you’re new to the field then maybe being a chef isn’t right for you. Try being a good cook first and learning the craft for a few years

Chef means “chief” and has responsibility and accountability associated with it that you may not be ready for.

Omg not true lol depends on country haha 😛 obviously this person isn’t talking about being a head chef but rather a junior chef and chef in most European countries and Australia and new Zealand etc means anyone cooking.

First, dont call yourself a chef. And 2nd. We all make mistakes. The first time i got a chance into the kitchen and off the dishes, i was doing good for about a week and then we had a “special” for lunch, that for some reason I couldn’t grasp how to do it. Got sent back to dish for months before getting the opportunity in the kitchen again. Another time, i was crazy busy and my 2 bosses ordered takeout under a secret name. Well i rushed getting their food out and immediately got my ass chewed out the next day. I don’t think i was the 1 to even cook theres bc i was having help, but it was my position so i took the blame for it all. That was a rough day lol

It's all good gang. We all make mistakes in this industry. Learn from your mistakes and keep pushing. It won't be the last time u make a mistake

Suck it up, or don’t.

Nobody else can tell you how you feel or whether or not you can handle this. They can choose to fire you, or train you.

We don’t know your kitchen, and we can’t tell you whether it is actually your fault or you’re not in a good environment.

Most of the time, when I encounter this kind of story or perspective, I find that the person is misrepresenting their own shortcomings and wants pity.

There’s no way for us to know. Maybe that’s what it is, maybe it’s not. Figure it out, or don’t.

I dont know why they blaming all the new ones even the senior chefs was like this right if someone is new to the field why the blaming for a single mistakes even they can talk nicely and understand to us right like this is not the way I will show you they can be like this right
