Our biggest walk in where I work
Someone posted their beautiful and huge walk in, ours isn't as pretty, but we're a university averaging around 1k per meal. You could fit multiples of the dive bar I started working in in here

Ahh I used to love "grocery shopping" in the hotel walk-ins

Weirdly enough in my years when working as a cook, the places that had the best cooler space were often the worst places to work. The tighter the cooler the better the job. At least that’s how it worked out for me.

Is there a name for those tiles? I've seen them way too often in my life

There is a restaurant on the corner of the shopping center I work in. Its been closed for like a year. Recently they've been remodeling it, and I saw them carrying out those same tiles to a roll off dumpster. I said to my boss, "that's not gonna be a restaraunt any.ore, bet me." He couldn't grasp why I was so confident. Mind you you, we also work in a restaurant with the same damned tiles....

One does not need to see the fries fry just so, as reading tea leaves in a mug demands, to see this one

I know right? Lol this is just in one of two buildings. We have so many things I didn't even know existed before coming here, like 80 gallon steam kettles, multiple ovens that are big enough to fit multiple people standing up in them, and a super old school rotary oven in our in house bakery that has 5 shelves that are probably close to 20' long

You guys just have a very cold room. This feels way past "walk-in cooler" territory.

I once went to Sysco pickup and saw an entire refrigerated warehouse.

Was gonna say wait till you see a restaraunt depot, but then remembered that Sysco just bought them for a trifling 29B. So, same same now

Is it one of the ones where multiple trucks pull right into the refrigerator?

Wow that's impressive. I thought ours was big, but it's like a broom closet compared to this.

It's my dream for my kitchen to consolidate the three different walk-ins and two walk-in freezers into on big beautiful cooler.

You telling me that's a fridge? The cafe I just started at is smaller than this entire thing.

Dishies who go past the red line find themselves in the magical land beyond the walk in Fridgenia where the front of house hunt them with plates that are unscraped and knives that are just thrown into the pit with no warning. You will either work in temperatures that are so high no deodorant can keep up, or so cold that they waited till February to turn on the heat after half the staff froze solid.

This is like the banquet kitchens at the Westin Kierland Resort. Place is massive. I havent worked there in 15 years or so, though, so not sure what its like these days.

It’s just…so big. I didn’t think they could get this big. I don’t think I could take all of that at once.

it’s organized neatly. there’s also a film of muck on the right side wall and all on the floor.

I worked at a large theme park and we drove forklifts in there.
