DISCUSSION Jeff Pagliocca Timeline
2024:
Jeff drafts Kamilla Cardoso at 3. Solid move.
Then he trades up from 8 to 7 to take Angel Reese, even though she was projected to go later. That trade cost Chicago the 2026 pick swap with Minnesota, which turned into Olivia Miles — a potential Rookie of the Year. A franchise-level talent gone because Jeff couldn't wait.
2025:
Jeff trades the 3rd overall pick (Sonia Cintron) for Ariel Atkins. Atkins is a good veteran, but not worth a top-3 pick.
He drafts Sivka and Hailey Van Lith, but again, the roster around them has no long-term stability.
2026:
The consequences hit.
The Miles pick swap becomes reality.
Chicago loses out on a star because of Jeff’s 2024 reach.
Jeff says Tyler Marsh hasn’t had a healthy roster.
But Jeff is the one who built a roster full of injured players:
DiJonai Carrington – signed injured
Courtney Vandersloot – signed injured
Azurá Stevens – signed injured
Skylar Diggins-Smith – older, injured again
Rachel Banham – re-signed despite never taking conditioning seriously and never being part of a winning team
This wasn't bad luck.
This was bad roster construction.
Jeff built this roster, made these trades, burned the draft capital, and signed the injured players.
Jeff created the "unhealthy roster" he now uses as an excuse.
If this résumé is considered good enough to keep his job, then the person evaluating him should be the one packing their bags.
At some point, someone in this organization needs to admit the obvious:
This isn't a rebuild. It's mismanagement.

I can’t even root for the team because I want them to fail so he gets fired. It sucks but watching him squander away such a prime opportunity to rebuild into a great team… I don’t think i can get past it
We had Angel and Milla as the foundational pieces. Angel had a great rookie year despite what some of her haters liked to claim. Spoon had the team at least competing defensively despite a horrid roster, then he traded Mabrey, which granted she wanted to be traded. Then fires spoon after the season for no real reason.
We have a prime pick in the upcoming draft and every mock has us taking the same player (Citron). WNBA ready, big, great shooter. Exactly what the team needs. He trades for an aging, declining player whoa best years were behind her who was never worth a Top 3 pick. Citron proves what we knew about her to be true - she was WNBA ready, exactly what we needed and then some. Best of all she fit the timeline and would develop alongside Reese and Milla
Then for whatever inexplicable reason, he trades MORE draft picks basically ensuring we can’t even be in the running to get a generational talent like Juju Watkins. And if that wasn’t bad enough, our star player asks him to do his job and get some competent players around her and this guy gets offended, reprimands her then trades her. Now she’s a defensive player of the year. She was always that good, we just never gave her a real chance
So until Jeff is gone, heck hopefully the owners too, I refuse to support the team anymore. The players I still love, still a big fan of Milla and Taylor, but the team gets nothing from me until they stop playin on our faces

At least the Atkins trade got us Jackson because LA wanted to outdo in the stupidity department.

true but she's hurt, she missed this year and will miss at least half of next year

I read every word and I agree with everything you said. I can not for the life of me understand how Chicago Sky is fumbling so bad. I got back into watching the WNBA because of Angel Reese and since she got drafted to the Sky I became a fan of the Sky (now Ive followed her to the Dream). I will say Idk how you Sky fans can endure this level of incompetence year after year. Storm the Wintrust arena if you have to, but please get that leadership out of office before you guys lose your team

The Sun didn't trade Mabrey when she wanted to be traded. In hindsight, it was a bad trade. She was the best 3-point shooter on the team. We know he loathed TSpoon, he sabotaged the roster, and made it harder for the Sky to make the playoffs.

That trade was fine. They got two first round picks for a player who didn't want to be there. That team wasn't going anywhere. What did the Sun get by holding onto her when she wanted to leave?

No, the team was competitive and fighting for the 8th seed under TSpoon. Not like the last two seasons. What did he do with those first round picks? Mabrey could have been traded in the offseason if he was serious about making the playoffs. He has no eye for talent, he can’t manage talent, and he never put the interests of the team first. His relationships and his job security are his priority.

Fighting for the 8th seed means very little when there are 12 teams in the league, which there were at the time. It was a bad team and was always a bad team.
The trade itself is independent of who they ended up selecting with the picks. They are discrete decisions. Gabriela could be fine. Sivka could be fine. We don't know yet. If they made better picks, it doesn't change the logic of the trade itself. Having Gabriela seems better than nothing, which is what the Sun got.

8th seed is the 8th seed... that was the competition at the time. He made the team's performance worse with the Mabrey trade. The Sky were a .500 team when they won the chip in 2021, and the two teams below them were below .500. The playoff series also had less games in most of the rounds than they do now.

If only to make sure they know social media lives on in Chicago, even after our Angel grew her wings and flew on to greener pastures.

I call it a fight to be mid. He is pretending to be win now but it is just trying to be mid.
2
u/GlacialTwitch 15d ago
That's true. He's trading all those future picks to try to be the 8th seed.
4
u/MasterHavik 15d ago
Which is just fucking stupid and he needs to be stopped. He tried so hard to look serious and his catering to veterans over the hill and his friends is annoying.

Generally correct, but the AI missed the 2027 pick swap. Try again and write it yourself.

this is a quick question (i know it’s not the main point) i thought banham was healthy enough for conditioning though ? What happened there ?
But nah you right tho, the rest of this is just bare mismanagement
And whilst we’re on this subtopic, firing t-spoon after she was 1 game away from playoffs vs keeping marsh ?
mismanagement x10 😭

Holy AI

Could you explain how this is AI-generated? I know that randomly bolded words are a sign of use of ChatGPT, but I only see 1 instance in a sentence.

AI written content tends to have a lot of “it’s not this, it’s that” comparisons for some reason.
So phrases like:
“This wasn't bad luck. This was bad roster construction.” &
“This isn't a rebuild. It's mismanagement.” are pretty clear signs of AI.2

Jeff (and ownership) also couldn’t get a practice facility built on time and provide their players with proper equipment and recovery support… idk how you expect all of those injured players to properly recover in those conditions…
