Review Digger is good

I joined to make this post (and because I love movies)

I went to watch Digger yesterday and it was good, it deserves to be seen and I think a lot of people could get something from it.

The trailers I watched made it look like a goofy movie about a quirky character and filled with dumb jokes but it has a lot more to offer than that. It's not quirky and dumb, that's just an appearance that has a place and explanation inside the movie universe.

The movie has substance but it's not preachy. It can be understood in a lot of ways depending on your views.

I don't feel it's about or against climate change, corporations, politics and all of that.

It certainly contains those elements and makes a parody of them, showing their dark side but it's not just a social critique.

I feel the movie is about people and our role in the shape of humanity and the World, about society and why it works the way it does. About our present and our likely future.

Give it a chance and go watch it. Not everybody will like it but it has something to say to most people.

I don't think climate change is the only thing it's about but it's definitely one of the things that it's about

Just came out of this one last night and you've nailed what i was struggling to put into words. The marketing team really did it dirty with those trailers, made it look like another throwaway comedy when it's got actual layers to peel back.

The bit about it not being preachy is spot on. So many films that touch on these themes end up lecturing you for two hours and it just pushes people away. this one leaves enough room to breathe and think for yourself.

proper cinema experience that, the kind where the whole pub discussion afterwards is better than the film itself. might have to drag a few mates along for a rewatch.

Trailer didn’t motivate me but reading this, maybe I should give it a go.

Yeah, I think I missed my own point a bit up there.

I'm not trying to say that they movie is good or not, that's for everybody to decide.

It was good for me but the thing I actually wanted to point out is the misrepresentation of the trailers. Watching the actual movie was a pleasant surprise to me.

Jesus Christ can we just get a dedicated Digger thread at this point. How many days am I going to see this same fucking post several times a day? We get it! You like Digger and Tom Cruise. You couldn’t pay me to suffer through a Tom Cruise movie. Please stop telling the rest of us how good it is because we think it sucks.

Jesus christ, this bot campaign to save this movie is out of control. How many posts do we have to see every day about what a great movie this is?

I’m not a bot and digger is definitely in my 2 spot for the year. Great movie.

I think it's just people who went to see it and realised how good it is. There was post after post on here about it bombing. I liked it enough to feel like I had to tell people how good it was. I think its that way when you love film and you comes across sowmthing good.

I think the media campaign about how much of a flop it was makes people want to defend it. After watching it, I feel as well. It is done dirty by the trailers and the campaign that made it out to be the most ridiculous movie ever.

I like it a lot. A bit self indulgent in parts, but really good.

I think a lot of the hate it's getting is because it really holds up a mirror to people, many many many of them.

Not another post, Tom! Please leave us alone already

I feel it doesn’t deserve to be seen because I hated the trailer and Tom Cruise should do something more like being a vampire. But what I think honestly is that it’s the best movie of the year and I’m missing out big time. How’s that for clarity?

I don't feel it's about or against climate change, corporations, politics and all of that.

It is most definitely about that. But that's not why people don't like it. It's a downer of a movie that satirizes satire. What people were expecting was funny comedy about an oil digger saving the world from the problem he created. What they got was a meandering movie with absurd comedy that pulls a twist to emphasize the allegory but has no resolution.

The movie has substance but it's not preachy

Idk bout this... They literally pause the show for the producer to slap the message of the film in your face.

I understand why people could see that scene as preachy. When it started I was ready to cringe and dislike the movie. That feeling of "here comes the speech". 😮‍💨

But I don't feel that it's just a long monologue about "corporations are evil, society = bad" and such.

First of all that scene is part of the play that takes place inside the movie universe, so even there it's a parody of the "real life" Digger character, his motivations and point of view.

It's about harmful progress and about it's true nature, about how it's natural for society to want comfort and security and the hipocrisy of not wanting to pay the price for it, pointing a mirror at the "concerned" enviromentalists and revealing their share of the blame.

But even then it's just Digger's viewpoint and the characters inside the movie have different opinions about it. It's not shown as a solid truth.

It's not just the old slogan of "CEOs are evil and they destroy the World for profit".

I think it's more like a character analysis on society and it's true nature behind all the talking and the protest.

I saw it more like "You don't want to stop climate change because it would mean changing your own life first. You like to talk about how much you want to stop it because you feel it's bad but you don't actually understand what it means and what it requires of you. You point a finger at corporations and billionaires but you love the fruit of their labour. Your desires are part of nature and corporations are just the result of those desires."

Nah

I gave it a chance and definitely didn’t like it. I really don’t get this fake hype of “If they would only see it!” Not everybody who’s seen it liked it, in fact a lot of people didn’t. At this point it’s going to disappear from theaters pretty soon due to its poor performance. Too many other movies coming out they have to make space for.
