Question Best Incarnates for Mind/Forcefield Controller?

This is on CoH Homecoming.

I've played this as one of my main characters for a few years now (among a lot of other toons), but i realized last night that my incarnates might need to be updated.

At the time, i picked what i needed to round out some stats while i was still saving up money for enhancement sets for the bonuses. So i wanted to see what is actually recommended these days.

Mind/FF, huh?

Well, as far as Alpha goes, it depends how you have your abilities slotted. Like, if you're slotted for control, pick Masculature to beef up your damage. But if you have your attacks slotted for damage or as proc bombs, pick an Alpha that increases your mez duration.

For Destiny, go the Ageless branch that grants Defense Debuff protection so that anything that gets through your ally shields doesn't cause cascade failure.

For Lore, if you're looking to stay on "theme", probably Phantoms, Polar lights or Storm Elementals (you can kinda rp those as psionic energy, I guess). If you're just worried about the best minmax pick, Longbow or Banished Pantheon for the big pets which deal -res in their attacks.

Judgment is tricky. Ion is technically the "best" (most # of targets + chance to hold), but it has a 3 second cast time, which alerts enemies at the START of the cast, not the end, which means you can be shot at AND defeated in the time it takes to fire off. Mighty can kinda be on-theme if you rp it as mass Levitate, but that involves getting into melee.

Hybrid? Assault all the way. I guess you can go Support if you really really want to lean into being backline support.

Interface, probably reactive. Anything to debuff res or add DoT will help, and Reactive has both.

I think it's only Ageless Radial that grants the debuff protection.

Can't remember if Forcefields are still affected by Power Boost. If they are then Clarion Radial is also a power boost and you can chain them for a big buff. That's what I use on my Time/Sonic defender. Half my Farsights are HUGE. No DDR though as noted, so Rad etc can tear you down.

The nice thing about Ageless is it "resets" your def beautifully. I use it on a couple of resist tanks who happen to have good melee / smashing / lethal defenses as a "this is starting to hurt, I'll reset" button

I like the Fire judgement. Quick animating big fireball. Ion is stronger because the chain can cover a spread out group much easier but "pull with gigantic fireball" is hilarious.

Yeah, the +def Force Fields powers are affected by Power Boost. Hit Power Boost then buff the group with boosted Deflection Shield and Insulation Shield

Great, thanks for the info.

It looks like i was on the right track for most of it.

  • I did go the proc bomb route, and i used Nerve for Alpha since i had Acc issues early on, but i got Hold, Confuse and Def buff out of it.
  • I did go Ageless mainly to fix the endurance issue, but I'm not sure which route i took, I'll check when i get home. I think i do need to switch over to the debuff protection though. I'll have to check.
  • I did choose Polar Lights, purely for theme. Lol
  • Judgement, i did go with Ion, though i usually prefer the Fireball. I do use Mighty on my Invul/SS tank who i thematically play as powerful close range telekinesis. Lol
  • I'll check out Assault. I went with Support just for the all around buffs but have been wondering if it should be changed.
  • i definitely went Reactive but i don't remember which path i took.

If you haven't looked at the super-kick Judgement, check it out. It's a massive cone that animates ~40 clones of yourself appearing, kicking badguys in the head, and disappearing.

I use it on my Mind Dom as a sort of mind-trick attack.

Yeah, i love Vorpal. Lol i use it on a lot of my melee characters, and ones who have super speed.

Recommending the below:

Alpha: Nerve Core, boosts holds, def buffs, and gives acc so there’s less need to slot for it. Hits everything this combo does. Could do initiation radical but this combo lacks pure damage.

Destiny: Barrier, it’s always good

Lore: Carnie core or bp radial if you’re going meta

Judgement: pyro core. It’s fast, has the highest dpa, works great in a chain. I use it off cd.

Hybrid: support core. You’re using a utility power set combo. Helps with end use passively, boosts your shields when toggled and increases your teams dps.

Interface: reactive is the usual meta, I find most teams hit the cap on it easily. I would go -max hp radical to further debuff hard targets and extra dps from the DoT

That one's called Degenerative.

My main is a Mind/Ff and I took Intuition Core Alpha, Diagmatetic Radial Interface, Pyronic Core Judgment, Rebirth (the +MAX HP side), Carnival Core Lore and Control Hybrid.

You.might want Barrier Core Epiphany if you are doing hardmode Aeon/LGTF. . Hope that helps!

I'm going to go against the grain and recommend Radial Intuition for your Alpha to boost range, damage, and holds. Controllers already have solid mez durations, and not all the mind powers notify enemies, so Intuition lets you put the whammy on them beyond detection range.
