Question Red glow under the water at solstice steps

Post image
142 Upvotes

Last night a little past 9:00 my fiance and I were at Lakewood Park and noticed a red glow coming from under the water. It looked to be about a mile out northwest of the compass at the solstice steps however measuring distance on the water is pretty difficult. I contacted the police because the water was so rough I wanted to make sure a boat did not go under. They sent the coast guard out to check it out supposedly after I called it in. Any idea what this was? I've been checking the news and stuff all day with no updates.

Recommendations Headed to Cleveland tomorrow!

hi! so i want to go to all 50 states and tomorrow I’m driving 6.5 hours to cleveland, OH from NJ. It will be my 22nd state :)

I have a little drafted itinerary, but wanted to see from locals if there is anything they recommend! I’m a big nature fan, love to thrift or little stores, cafes, music, history, and drinks. i also will be seeking out a dispensary if anyone has their favorites!

i’m staying close to the campus district/playhouse square, i have a car and don’t mind public transport.

my itinerary:

get there, grab lunch, and head to the rock and roll hall of fame museum. check into the air bnb, relax, then i would like to see the sunset and get dinner. Not sure if there is places near playhouse square area that you really recommend or go over to W 25th get dinner and check out some stores near by?

next day: get some cafe or breakfast if you have any recommendations, near or not near the area i said i was staying! then planning to go to Cuyahoga and walk the ledges trail. relax a little at our place, maybe walk down to the 5th street arcades, and then head to the art museum and little Italy for dinner. i keep seeing Mama santa’s recommend.

then next day go home!

is there any spots you think is worth checking out different from what i listed or any historical or music sites you recommend to see?

i also want to somehow squeeze in going to paradise galleria lol

thanks everyone <3

Question Brook Park Abandoned Housing Development

I'm young so I don't know the backstory of why we have these abandoned roads, which looked like a housing development was here many years ago. Located off of Sheldon Rd, Grayton Rd and Ruple Pkwy. Such a sad thing to see these homes gone. Is there any ideas of what to put here instead? The road names are Crestridge Dr, Wildwood Ave, Wentworth Ave, Westview Ave and Grayton Rd. The last picture which is Grayton Rd has a sign that says "No Trespassing, Authorized Personnel Only," "Not a Through Street" and "No Outlet." I do wonder what is down this road and according to Google Maps looks to be a house back there. So are able to get trash taken care of and there mail delivered?! Would love to live there. Seems like a middle of nowhere, thus its peaceful and quiet.

Recommendations Best Bar for Solo Female to Watch Game Tonight

Edit: I’m in Cleveland and I am not neighborhood loyal. Used to big city traffic that takes 45 minutes to get anywhere so driving doesn’t psych me out.

Pretty much that. After a couple of bad historical experiences with people, I’ve been more wary to go out alone these days. But dang dude…I want to watch the game around people and not alone in my apartment. I want to cheer alongside people.

Downtown seems overwhelming and like maybe a shit show so trying to avoid going too far into the belly of the beast. I’m a 40F and I want to be able to drive, park, have maybe three light weight beers and chill without being concerned about the vibes of those around me. Still new to town and I don’t get out much.

Really hoping to eventually make friends but that’s harder as you get older especially since so many folks have families. Wanted to be a mom but it didn’t happen, so instead I now really want to watch baseball with a beer around good people.

And yes, I’ve tried meetup groups and doing all the regular suggestions but I haven’t found my people yet I guess. I’ve met lovely introverts and I’ve met fun heavy partiers but I haven’t met many folks who chill in the in between of low key energy while also enjoying exploring life. But if you’re here, DM me and we can get coffee and bird or people watch.

Discussion PSA: You can opt out of Amazon drone delivery!

Post image
153 Upvotes

And for the love of all that is good, and your neighbors (good or not), and requiring companies that extract sooooo much wealth from our communities to pay at least a little bit back in the form of employing people, please do!

Amazon has gone out of its way to hide its "contact us" option, so here are the instructions.

  • From their main page, scroll to the bottom and click "Customer Service." (It's the bottom right option on my computer, the last one under the heading "Let Us Help You.")
  • Under "Can't Find What You're Looking For," click "Something Else."
  • Then click "Amazon Drone Delivery."
  • Then click "I need more help."

.... and you will finally get an option to chat with a customer service rep.

If anyone knows an easier way, please put it in the comments!!!

p.s. Before people attack me for still using Amazon: believe me, I hear you. But I'm pretty broke right now, and when there's something I can't avoid buying, I have to get the cheapest option. And, and this is key, Jeff Bezos is not my problem to solve. Every billionaire represents a public policy failure, and that's on bought politicians and their voters. My piddly purchases every month make exactly zero difference in that man's bottom line or dipshit attitude.

Recommendations Where do you go for dates?

I almost feel silly posting this, but here goes. My husband and I have been together for 10 years and have a few pretty young kids. My in laws recently have started offering to watch them so we can go on dates. It’s wonderful. The first couple times we did practical things like pick out tile for a home remodel, go car shopping, etc. Now, though, we’re running out of things to do. Compounding that, my in laws come over EARLY for date night. I’m talking like 3 or 4. I get it because they want to spend time with the kids before bedtime, but that means my husband and I now have to find something to do outside of the house for like 5 or 6 hours. When we were dating, we were pretty broke so we didn’t do many activities. We’ve never been movie or theater people or sports people. Mostly we just like hanging out together, but doing something is nice. Any suggestions? Thanks!

ETA - thanks for the suggestions! I should have been more clear - I’m looking specifically for things we can’t really do with the kids. We love the zoo, the museums, the metroparks, farms, Stan hwyet, CVNP, etc, and we do those frequently with our kids. Ideally we’d do things that we can’t do with the kids.

Politics Voting resources/democratic sample ballots??

hey!!!!! preparing to vote (!!) and I am not the most knowledgeable person ever on government/issues, but am wanting to make sure my candidates are thought through. I mean overall i’m probably just voting democrat down the ballot, but i’m curious if anyone has any resources they use. Like, part of me wishes the DSA would put out a sample ballot of who they’d suggest voting for, or even curious if someone has made a spreadsheet or done their own research.

I have started a spreadsheet with my selected official for each position (color coded by party of course…. No red anywhere to be seen) and my notes/reasoning (could be as simple as opponent being backed by tr*mp), as well as confidence level in voting for this person. Looking to have more information so curious about the resources yall use, but also I wish I could reference other people’s plans and reasoning lol

One thing I’ve waffled back and forth on is senate. While I’d love to endorse a “socialist” Greg Levy in hopes of getting the next mamdani for Ohio, I have a few reservations and am leaning towards Sherrod instead. Namely, mamdani has socialist ideologies but ran as a democrat. Also he’s mayor so his job is different. Greg is running as independent/socialist, meaning he might end up dividing the vote and creating space for maga — and I’ve actually found an article stating that maga was donating / investing in his campaign in hopes of dividing the vote. https://archive.is/2026.10.17-144008/https://www.axios.com/local/cleveland/2026/10/16/maga-super-pac-greg-levy-mailers-ohio-senate-race
With that being said it’s lovely to see that he has support and ideally a socialist would be my choice but we don’t live in an ideal world. But i’m curious what others have to say on this topic.

i’m also curious just in general how yall are getting your friends and family involved. I’m thinking of sending this spreadsheet to everyone and letting them add or share thoughts but also reference it for a quick last minute voting plan with little effort. We all believe relatively similar stuff so it’s not too risky.

in other news I’ve heard ab this thing where you can get money to host a “voting party” if u know a bunch of people and want to all be proactive and research!

Crime What kind of accountability does [Parma] law enforcement have (if any)???

Smoking a cigarette in my neighborhood on my porch at 11:20pm and a Parma pickup truck cop just flew down my street — no running lights, no cherries, no berries, no sirens — at 90mph. It’s posted 25mph through here. He blew every stop sign. No exaggeration.

People walk their dogs at night, crosswalks…there are cats around…he didn’t even hit his sirens or lights when he hit the main road. Didn’t tap his breaks not once blowing through my street (3+ stop signs down the blocks). I can’t even quite believe what I just saw & heard. He was flooring it.

Lorain Port & Finance Authority Text:

Check out this waterspout that appeared just north of Lorain Harbor! We captured this amazing sight live on the Lorain Lighthouse Cam just a few minutes ago as a storm moved into the area.

It lasted roughly two minutes before retreating into the clouds. This 30-second timelapse gives you a clearer look at how it formed and dissipated!

Hi I am delivering my first this week. I was wondering if anyone knows how many people can actually stay with me overnight at Fairview. Obviously not trying to have a slumber party but my mom is in town along with my SO. I’m very close with my mom so I would prefer she is there.

Discussion SouthPark 30 Years Later

Post image
187 Upvotes

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the grand opening of SouthPark Mall (then SouthPark Center) back in 1996. The mall has changed a lot over that time and has gone through multiple eras. From SouthPark Center to Westfield SouthPark to SouthPark Mall. From the Jacob’s Group to Westfield to Starwood to Spinoso. When I visit SouthPark, I can tell it was designed with an intention to stand out among others. The architectural design from the heights of the impressive entrance vaults, grand barrel vault skylights & domes to the attention to detail in the ground tile patterns (more so of the original in this case) never get old for me and I hope they continue to inspire for years to come. SouthPark played a role in my desire to pursue a career in the world of architecture.

This is the mall I grew up with and it’s fascinating to think about the strength of presence it’s had on me. My early memories include the Westfield years with the Disney Store and the dining court with the glass facade. Not long after, the 2006 facelift took place. I remember experiencing the mall amidst the renovations and how exciting that was.

There’s so many memories in general. I remember a Charlotte’s Web experience with the Christmas setup one year. The clock tower used to be filled with references to “A Christmas Story” (before I understood any of that). I remember Caribou Coffee (although I was too little for coffee at the time), Firefly’s Minigolf, and Kids Concoctions. Helping with setup for Christmas decorations multiple years in high school. The grand opening of Mitchell’s Ice Cream. I also have a vague memory of the existence of Johnny Rockets.

So many memories and so much has changed over 30 years that has not always been kind to SouthPark. There have definitely been challenges but I’m optimistic that SouthPark’s highs can still be stronger than its lows. Even with the addition of newer centers like Crocker Park and Pinecrest, SouthPark continues to perform. Ownership changes through the years have shown (in my view) different levels of effort towards SouthPark. I’ll long miss the Westfield era and, although there have been positive impacts, I’m still skeptical of the Spinoso era. I hope they genuinely have the best interests of SouthPark in mind and are willing to do whatever it needs to continue perform in the long term. (A Westfield level full interior renovation would be nice for one. Replacing the faulty escalators for two.)

I've got a mobile job that sends me to many areas of Cleveland- oftentimes places that I'd call "the hood" or sometimes decent urban neighborhoods, such as Ohio City, are just packed full of lovely little fluffballs that could use a home. Some will run right up to you, some are shy and need a little convincing. I've got three house-cats and a porch-cat, two were strays in my neighborhood and another was found on Train Ave, almost certainly dumped.

●Disclaimer, don't just be grabbing cats off the street willy-nilly. Many are indoor-outdoor cats, and some are cared-for strays. Caretakers of these outdoor cats may consider the cat "theirs," or they may be happy to see it go to a loving home.

●The cat in this post is just a random cat I befriended around East Cleveland. Not mine, but very sweet.

● Adopting from a shelter is also great as it clears room for these strays.

I went tonight and it was well decorated and my dog loved it. You drive through and it was really nice. You pay by the car I it was 27.50. It’s great for everyone even the pets. 🐶🦴

It lasted almost 40-50 minutes and I put the map on so you can see. I was driving so my photos are limited but I’m glad I went.

Recommendations Please recommend me a seamstress/alteration who can fit my Halloween clown costume to me better

I ordered a costume off eBay and I feel like it’s a 3xl. Need it to fit more like a medium. lol.

It’s a very simply sewn piece, should be fairly easy to take apart and reconstruct.
