Wish the national conversation included KPI, WAB and educated college basketball fans that resumes are way more important than KenPom and Torvik which play very small roles, regarding the NCAA tournament.

VCU would explode in the Big East if it ever got an invite. It navigates coaching changes every 2-5 years and keeps rolling along with the most A10 wins of any team since joining. If it ever could hold a coach for a bit and really build on what it has it would fly.
I just don’t understand why VCU can’t keep a coach. I get that it’s a launching pad for bigger jobs if the team does well, but it’s getting ridiculous.
I’m always curious if it’s due to it being a city school and most coaches, just culturally feel more comfortable in a different setting. Whoever is in charge needs to find the funds to upgrade the salary and give the coach a free mansion out by the University of Richmond.
I agree that a move to the Big East is logical in a pure basketball sense, but not sure if it’s realistic.
Most coaches live in the Fan on one of more historic streets in Richmond where homes are some of the most expensive in Richmond. That’s where Shaka lived. Word is VCU near matched Texas on Shaka but his wife really wanted him to take the job. Shaka even said later she was the one who got him to go because otherwise he never would have left. U of R has had the same coach for like 20 years that has like 9-29 record against VCU. Teams just love getting coaches from VCU though historically that’s hit or miss and more so miss as most don’t do that great after leaving. VCU does have a large endowment though which would really help if they did move.
I went to VCU and know the city very well. The Fan is great, but it’s urban and tiny.
The Fan is hip, etc., but do you think Dave Odom truly cared about the architecture or the few high end restaurants? It clearly isn’t appealing enough to keep any coach around. Not just Shaka, or Odom. There is something about the culture around VCU that is driving coaches away. I’ve had discussions about this for years with friends in Richmond.
IT'S NICE KNOWING THAT IZZO IS STILL COACHING AND WILL SEE A DIFFERENT BIG TEN TEAM WIN THE NATTY THIS YEAR AFTER A QUARTER CENTURY OF COMING UP SHORT.

Yeah, I don’t mind him so much and honestly Caleb is a monster who seems like a solid kid. I can’t stand Veesaar though- and I can’t fathom why Zayden High wasn’t kicked off the team, that alone gives me reason to hope they fail
