Ponder is elite.
I honestly don't think a single player from last years roster starts on this team, legitimate high ceiling for this roster.

Never thought I'd see a FSU fan claim anyone with the last name Ponder is "elite", but here we are, haha.

McCray starts over Robinson for sure

u/IdealSeating 3d ago
Definitely. And this team looks like they could really use his steady offensive presence. Abaev was better in the second, but both he and Robinson were inefficient overall while looking for their own shot too much.
Don’t think anyone else from last year starts but minutes would be found for Jones and Bassong. And of course Steen, who would be a big boost for this team if he gets eligible because Schweiger was very unimpressive. Overall, this roster looks to be a big step up from last year.

I think McCray's individual performance is better but Robinson may be a better distributor

I thought we played better with Robinson off the floor and the freshman Barnes in his place. Especially in the 2nd half

How did Ponder look,? I'm surprised he's not on draft radars for next year, built like an animal and has a cler path for starter minutes this year.

Was a monster on the glass. 21 boards (12 offensive) in 25 minutes, while going up against Auburn’s two seven footers. Looked good at the FT line (5/6 with good form). Defensively he got a little lost at times and didn’t challenge as many shots as he could, but he’ll improve there with more experience and getting used to the speed of college.

It took Oscar Tshiebwe 3 years of dominating the G league to get called up full time to the league. Dude was the national player of the year and averaged 15.2 RPG, 17.4 PPG, 1.8 SPG at Kentucky…
The league just doesn’t value guys like Ponder and Tshiebwe.

Today if you can't dribble and shoot the 3 at the 5 position, your value is marginal, at best, in the NBA.
It is pretty sad, NBA is just dominated by analytics that have diminished variability in play styles.
I wonder how prime Shaq would be perceived in today's NBA

Did he play against Queens?

Supposedly some of the starters that played tonight were a little banged up going into the Queens scrimmage and Luke wanted them to play against Auburn.
1
u/IdealSeating 3d ago
It was a closed scrimmage so we don’t know but word is he fouled out against Queens.

Y’all will love ant Robinson (sometimes hate him too) as well. Kam Taylor is also a very good player.
Marcis ponder should absolutely get drafted

People were saying this team was bad after the secret scrimmage loss. Cubelic said they were a mid tier ACC school that Auburn shouldn't be losing to. Too bad this was just an exhibition game and means nothing. Team looked decent tonight though

u/RGCFrostbite Florida State Seminoles 3d ago
Ponder and Kam Taylor looked fantastic. Rancik looks great too. I think the Noles starting 5 is legit, but Barnes and co. really need to be consistent off the bench if FSU wants to make any real noise this season.

Barnes actually impressed me. He's a true freshman and looked composed and confident against veteran power conference players. He will only get better

I need to see both teams fully healthy and eligible before I overreact to an exhibition

u/ThiccNSpicy Auburn Tigers 3d ago
Ggs noles. Game was pretty good til we gave up 7 points in 40 seconds. I’m not super worried yet but god the bama exhibition is going to be toxic lol.

u/RGCFrostbite Florida State Seminoles 3d ago
Yeah was a really fun game to watch, I missed basketball lol, anything to stop me from watchingMike Norvell

u/tgrogan21 Auburn Tigers 3d ago
Can't wait for the doomers to overreact to an exhibition loss. 2017 Auburn lost to a D2 school and then went and won the SEC regular season.

You lost to the team that lost to Queens

u/OpaqueNightmare Florida State Seminoles 3d ago
A “closed scrimmage” is a practice

u/TrustInRoy 3d ago
A practice played like a game... that you lost... to Queens.
6
u/OpaqueNightmare Florida State Seminoles 3d ago
Mhm and yet when we played an SEC team in a real game environment, we won by 11. Almost like “closed scrimmages” are nothing like real games and shouldn’t be taken seriously.
1
u/TrustInRoy 2d ago
Or, you're just coping because you lost to Queens.
Everyone knows Auburn has a terrible coach who should never have been given the job. Maybe they'll hire the Queens coach.
1
u/OpaqueNightmare Florida State Seminoles 3d ago
It’s not your fault that you had to play the national championship team
7
u/tgrogan21 Auburn Tigers 3d ago
I'm not sure how many more players that Auburn will see that have the size that Ponder does. He's a beast!
Edit: Also love the downvote for stating facts.

This is one way to cope

I am honestly very surprised Tahaad is back at Auburn this year. He had such an amazing and promising freshman season, then Bruce completely screwed him out any sophomore year development and both his production and draft prospectus plummeted. Hope for his sake he balls out this year.

WHERE ARE THE HATERS AT NOW???? ONLY GAME ONE OF AN INEVITABLE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP RUN. FLORIDA AND DUKE ARE SHAKING WITH FEAR.

I remember getting all hyped about a preseason exhibition game last year, don't want to curb your enthusiasm just remember to regulate expectations

u/SyVSFe Michigan • North Carolina 3d ago
Game 2. Game 1 was a loss to Queens.

u/OpaqueNightmare Florida State Seminoles 3d ago
A “closed scrimmage” is a practice and the farthest thing from a real game. Like saying we lost to our practice squad.

u/G0B1GR3D Nebraska Cornhuskers 3d ago
Okay 1-2 then. I was unaware of the loss to the practice squad as well.
