I'm excited to see all the new faces. Completely new starting 5 tonight of TK, Blyden, Stokes, Dawes, and Reeves. Though I expect White and Council might start at some point.

Kinney has 2 of those step back baseline shots. Bud this ain’t aau. Get a better look than that.

I’ll say it, the exhibition makes for a better late night than the bullshit scrimmage where no one tries.

I don't disagree but at least the bullshit scrimmage was free to get in

I get the admission price aspect, absolutely.
I just think this is a lot more beneficial. Sets the tone, gives the staff real game film to look at, gives them a chance to try a lot of different rotations, gives them a chance to get a better look at the freshman that aren’t likely to play quite as much, gives them a chance to do some real coaching on the fly.
Exhibition vs Louisville will be taken a little more seriously, and we’ll have a better idea of what we want to do going into that game.
I think they’re coaching really hard this year.

I don't disagree, I'm just lamenting we aren't getting both as we previously did

Not gonna be able to keep Tre White out of the lineup. He'll be starting for Dawes shortly.

He looked good in summer league and probably could have played for the Miami Heat this year. He might be our best player.

Can he do it in conference play? For me that is the big question.

Random game thoughts
Melvin as a pest on defense and connecting passer is going to feed families with this roster. Doesn’t matter if he starts, he’s going to play a lot of minutes.
Barnett is going to snatch Rosario’s minutes real quick if he starts off slow. His release is ridiculous. I don’t care about the misses tonight, buddy can fire it.
The Gorillas is a pretty awesome mascot.
It’s going to be interesting to see what guards Self wants playing minutes with Stokes. Kinney and Stokes have played together and been friends for years. Blyden compliments well as a shooter, but I’m not sure that Blyden and Kinney will be starting together very long.
This is the exact setting where Reeves always looks good - lesser bigs where he has a clear physical advantage. He looked great for stretches, but I’m tempering expectations on our bigs for now.
Stokes is big, strong, and fast. Plays with some shit to him. Really good feel for passing. This is going to be fun. A lot of opposing fans are going to hate his guts.
We’re going to press a ton this year with how many people we can rotate. Blyden might get bodied a little bit, but his hands are fast.
Paul’s going to pick up a lot of dumb fouls this year.
Tre White, good at basketball.
Pre-transfer portal era, I would have been so enthusiastic about this freshman class.

Going to be really interesting to see how Self handles the rotations this season. I know he doesn’t like to play a lot of guys, but this team has real depth and could go 10-11 deep

Now I'm wondering if there are more than 8 kids that will play defense with the intensity we need...
2
u/-sasnak- Kansas Jayhawks 21h ago
This is what I am wondering. 7-8 guys is what he also settles into...will he play more guys?
2
u/Ihateporn2020 21h ago
He's played 10 guys 10 plus minutes jn the past -like 4 seasons where he's done that

Fun fact: we were 11-0 last year when Tre White made 5 or more free throws.

And that is why I'm happy to have Tre White back lol

I'd be okay with Blyden not trying to dunk in games at all

u/kirkismyhinrich Kansas • Colorado Mines 21h ago
We'll see what the rotation ends up being, but this has to be Self's deepest team in a minute

Can Perry Ellis still suit up? Do you think anyone would notice?

Could the NCAA stop him at this point? Just call Pat Kelsey as a witness to shout "You can't enforce it!" over and over.

TK is so fast with the ball....going to be fun to see what he does this year

u/kirkismyhinrich Kansas • Colorado Mines 21h ago
Ya I like how he pushes the pace. But he also seems pretty under control.

Stokes is going to need to be stronger with the ball or this league will beat him up...you can't count on getting those calls.

I like the way TK has looked tonight. I also like what I've seen from Parker and Barnett.
I think Adkins could be good in time. He looks like our most coordinated big.

u/Human-Demand-8293 Kansas Jayhawks 20h ago
TK has looked like a freshman. Seems to have a good report with stokes and has decent vision but also gets a little carried away into some turnovers or bad shots. I’d still start him to see if he can learn .
Probably go with TK, Council, stokes, white Reeves. Maybe Parker instead of council and let council lead the bench.

I think TK just has a good feel for the game and good instincts. He forced some shots I thought mostly because this was a glorified scrimmage.
We play some good teams next week so I'm going to wait until after those games to project a rotation and minutes. I think Blyden still might end up starting even though he didn't play great tonight.

This was a sloppy ass game. Dawes is trash, blyden sucks.. stokes needs to be more aggressive

u/Ihateporn2020 8h ago
The team played nonchalant in terms of focus. Good activity level. They really weren't clicking at all though.
Dawes was a monster last year.

The Council of Melvins has assembled. .
Rock Chalk.

Melvin council in full force tonight, love to see it. Preseason games always got that weird energy, half the team still learning the playbook. Rock Chalk anyway though
