Doing a Schoolproject on Columbine and its lasting impact

Hi there.

So i'm doing a project in school on Columbine, the Columbine effect and the cult around schoolshootings and masskillers.

I wanted to come on here and ask if someone has a list of schoolshooters that specifically mentioned or researched Harris And Klebold.

I hope this is ok to ask for on here, as i didnt really know where else to ask.

Thanks gor any response

Anyone think that Dylan's anger actually ran deeper than Eric's?

Basically what the title asks. I've been doing a bit of a deep dive as of late, and like many, I used to believe that Eric was the "ring leader" and Dylan was basically the follower. Obviously for years I have no longer believed that to be true, and thought them to be equally responsible for their heinous crimes. However, lately I'm starting to think, or at least it seems to me that Dylan was actually an even more angry person than Eric. I'm not sure what it is, but even when I look at pictures there's such a darkness in his eyes, he looks almost psychotic in some. Any evidence to back this up? What are your thoughts? Don't attack me please, it's just a question and also I'm very sensitive LOL.

Haven’t followed this case in years but I have some questions.

1) Wasn’t there something releasing in 2027 - perhaps it was depositions from the Harris family?

2) Have the Harris family come out to say anything?

3) What would you say is the biggest revelation made in the last few years?

Did they really create a "Columbine High School" DOOM map?

It seems like common knowledge that they created a CHS Doom map in which they "practiced" the massacre. However, not only is there next to no information about this supposed map (no images, videos, talk of it in the journals or tapes, etc) but it wouldn't even make sense why they would make this map when they intended to blow up the school, not shoot it up.

What do you think? Did this map really exist, or is it just misinformation?

Is this Andy Nowicki interview with Richard Castaldo real or is the writer lying?

I saw another post on reddit discussing if Rachel actually died how some think she did. Most agreed it was impossible that she died talkint about God. People said if Richard heard anything, it was agonal breathing. They spoke of the shooters being too far away or her being unable to speak. But at the bottom of the replies, someone linked this “interview” but it’s a tumblr post that seems to be a possible interview that was copied and pasted. but I’m unsure. so I looked it up and it’s some website claiming to have interviewed Richard. the author is listed as Nowicki. I know allegedly Richard changes his story on and off. can anyone remember reading this particular interview? it seems different from other alleged claim by Richard. I will say that as someone who has heard agonal breathing before, it does not sound like crying at all. It’s often called a death rattle because it sounds like a literal rattler mixed with inhalation sounds. not quite snoring sounds but close. So what do you all think? here is the link:

"After Prom" Shirt from 1999

The shirt was recently put up for grabs on the good 'ole eBay so you might have already seen this, but it's another one of those things about Columbine that to me feels like such an unfortunate case of unintentional foreshadowing/irony that is just eerie.

According to the seller, this shirt is vouched as authentic and was only given to a few attendees/volunteers. Columbine's After Party had the theme of "New York, New York", and took place in the high school's gymnasium on April 17th, 1999, starting after the actual dance that was held at the Denver Design Center. Shirt is dated both in the design and by the printer as 1999.

While Eric tried pretty hard to get a date to the dance, he wasn't successful. Dylan pretty infamously attended with Robyn Anderson. Eric did, however, attend the After Prom and met up with Dylan and the group he had spent the earlier part of the night with. In case you're interested, here are a few informative posts about the dance (all credit given to the original posters and curators of research):

Photo and Media Guidelines Rule - No Generative AI

Hi community,

The ways we engage with research in this community are constantly changing. As we all know, generative AI is a quickly evolving tool, and we have seen it be used in various ways across the Columbine research space. That's why the mod team felt it important to add a point to the photo/media rules addressing this. We feel it has no place in this subreddit, and given the sensitive nature of the Columbine tragedy, it would be highly inappropriate to allow posts that include AI-generated media, whether it is original or shared content. There is far too much potential for it to be used inappropriately, and the level of harm it can inflict on the credibility of research is too great.

This addendum is important for many reasons. Whether you are a researcher or a lurker, we all have an obligation to stay sensitive to the details and stay human. We all have an obligation to combat sensationalism and misinformation, and engage in research on a genuine level. I would really hate for there to be a precedent set in this research community in which generative AI is relied upon to tell the story of Columbine. Combining the sensitivity and reality of Columbine with something as unreal, fickle and harmful as generative AI is a disheartening and dangerous reality. Cases like Columbine do and should rely solely on the storytelling of survivors, the families, the community and researchers using human voices and human effort.

If you are genuinely unsure on whether a photo or video is authentic or not, you are welcome to post it here given that you make your uncertainty and enquiry clear in the post title and body text. Again, we have an obligation to combat misinformation and inform each other in the right direction. Otherwise, AI-generated content posted to the subreddit will promptly be removed, and if it is tasteless, explicit, or sensationalist in nature (i.e. AI generated photos and/or videos of the killers, or AI-generated content that is disrespectful to victims), an immediate ban will be enforced.

Please do the right thing, stay sensitive, and keep using your voice/critical research skills.

curious about Lisa Kreutz

i dont want this to be a weird post at all but iam curios about her wellbeing and what she is up to today. there is so little information about her available after the shooting and where she is now. she stayed away from the media attention which i respect.

i would be curious to just know more of her point of view that day. her statement from the 11k is heartbreaking but also she hadnt really recovered fully for her witness statement back then i think there is more to her story and what she witnessed.
or the girl that she say lay down next to her while she was waiting to be rescued. she was the last survivor that came out from the library. 3 hours after the shooters killed themselves.

I think it's okay to accept that we're ever going to know what exactly went wrong.

I don't think it's realistic to think we are ever going to identify one exact root cause of what happened at Columbine. I understand that it would be helpful to know exactly what separated Dylan and Eric from every other kid who was bullied or struggling with mental illness, but real life does not work like that. Doctors are not going to identify the one virus Dylan/Eric had and figure out how to prevent it forever.

Instead, what we can do is address the problems piece by piece.

Dylan and Eric were bullied at school. They were able to access guns far too easily. They both struggled with mental illness. Those things are all relatively common, and the overwhelming majority of people who experience those things do not commit mass violence.

Psychologists who have analyzed Eric have suggested psychopathy. For Dylan, I think they've pointed more to depression and extremely low self-esteem. But there is so much about their mental states that we are never going to know.

They left behind the basement tapes, journals, and things like that. I think the tapes have since been destroyed (not 100% sure on that). Dylan also erased his hard drives. It is entirely possible they talked to each other about what they wanted to leave behind and what they wanted to destroy. We may never know how much evidence was intentionally removed.

And honestly, I do not think we are ever going to know the full story of what went wrong.

I think we should focus on the things we can actually do. Check on your friends. Encourage people to get help. If you see someone getting bullied, intervene. If someone displays concerning behavior, report it. Even if you cannot guarantee that it will prevent something terrible from happening, it still matters.

The one part I am uneasy about is all the systems to report "concerning" behavior. First, I am not convinced they are always as effective as they make themselves out to be. If it becomes incredibly easy to report students for suspicious behavior, you are going to get an enormous number of reports, and staff are not going to have unlimited time to investigate each one. Not to mention there are privacy/due process rights. You can't search someone's house unless there's a warrant and probable cause or whatever.

Second, students can absolutely tell when adults are suddenly watching them more closely. If a kid feels like they are under investigation, they may become even more closed-off, and that can easily backfire. They might stop talking to their friends because they are worried about what someone will say or do. And now the intervention itself can backfire by taking away one of the very support systems that student actually needs.

Like I said, I think there's a lot that we're never going to know about Columbine. Dylan's mother wrote a whole book about what she thinks happened, and she is understandably very biased because she is Dylan's mother. I think Eric's family has mostly kept quiet about all this.

How associated with the trench coat mafia were E & D?

Excuse me if the answer is like two pages down, but the rest of the document wont load because i am in fact running off shopping mall wifi. Anyway, it was dis proven ages ago that Eric and Dylan were not a part of the trench coat mafia, but when I was reading through witness statements I noticed that there was a guy in an online chatroom who claimed to escape the shooting unharmed after being in the library because of his association with the "trench coat mafia". I am a little confused and wondering if this is true or not and would appreciate any extra info regarding why. thank you !

Has the culture of bullying changed?

The administration and media did everything they could to deny that bullying was a problem at CHS. At most they would acknowledge that there were isolated incidents of bullying, but would insist that the shooters weren't targets of bullying and that bullying wasn't a motive.

In the years since, it's pretty clear this is a lie. There is a lot of documentation that Columbine had an unchecked bullying culture, and that Eric and Dylan were victims of bullying. Obviously there is no justification for what they did, but I'd say it's pretty disingenuous to say the school didn't have a bullying problem.

My question is this: has the culture of the school changed? If the school admin went to such lengths to cover up the toxic culture and made every effort to avoid responsibility for nurturing that culture, would meaningful change even be possible? I'm just curious if anyone knows what the vibe is currently at CHS.

Fire Alarm Volume in Library

Quick question on the volume of the fire alarm - based on several witness statements, the fire alarm was sounding off either right before or very shortly after Eric and Dylan went into the library. How did so many library witnesses have such clear hearing when reporting the things Eric and Dylan said during their time in the library? While several witnesses mention the alarm, only John Savage seemingly mentions anyone having any trouble hearing as a result of it (when he spoke to Dylan before fleeing). Is it possible the alarm wasn’t very loud? I realize they could have been yelling, but I imagine it would have still been hard to hear and recount clearly afterwards. I think a potential explanation is that most of the things Eric and Dylan said were heard before the alarm went off, but we’ll never know.

Currently reading through and found Evan Todd and Bree Pasquale to be extremely detailed - what are some other interesting witness statements to read? I’ve read most of the other library witnesses.

General questions I still have from over the years.

Hi first post. Been researching for many years. Read and watched almost all of what is available. Few things.

Not quite sure what their movements were in the hallways after the initial library attack - I know they went to the office, what was up with that? Maybe its my lack of knowledge or ability to picture the layout of the school, but where all did they go? Did they walk throughout the whole school? What info is available on that? I also heard there were cameras in the office. Are those confirmed, and unreleased? Or just speculation, because theyre placed there, and may not have been taping?

Same question about the cafeteria. The security camera footage doesnt really help me picture the layout. They went to the kitchen and where else? I also just read about tim kastle and am now aware of that, can someone give me a little timeline on their movements there? Thanks

I also would like to say that I appreciate the discussion of the release of the basement tapes. I too would release them. At this point, theres not a whole lot the tapes could make worse. If anything the impact would be good for the world of criminal and pediatric psychology. Id also like to point out that, in my opinion, tapes like Rampart Range and shows like Zero Hour have done much more damage to vulnerable and impressionable teenagers than the tapes could. I bet the tapes will make them look pathetic, honestly.

That’s all. Thanks in advance! I know ten plus years of questions here can be a lot.

When I was in high school around 2008, we did "Rachel's Challenge"

When I was a freshman in high school, a guest speaker came to my school who I believe was a survivor of the massacre. They spoke to us about that day and about Rachel Scott, who was a friend of theirs. They spoke at different schools in Rachel's memory and they came up with "Rachel's Challenge," which if I remember correctly was a challenge about mental health and spreading joy.

I was young and I don't remember every detail, so please forgive me if any of my description was off.

I am wondering if anyone in here knows about this or experienced this at their school? I never forgot about Rachel's challenge or the guest speaker.

What actually WAS Eric's "Berserk?"

All I know is that it was a wooden object he kept in his right pocket, labelled after the powerup in berserk, supposedly to give him strength or resolve especially during the attack, sort of like how some people hold crystals for certain mental benefits or superstition. From the photo from the 2004 exhibit, it resembles a short wooden cylinder, but ive heard people also say its a weed pipe or a "One hitter?" I only smoke cigarettes so i have zero idea what weed pipes or their components look like, so could anyone with more knowledge verify what Eric's Berserk icon actually looked like/what it was?

Do you guys think that Timofey Kulyamov was particularly inspired by Columbine?

Timofey Kulyamov perpetrated the 2025 Odintsovo school attack, killing one student and injuring a security guard, a teacher, and another student. During his attack, he wore a white t-shirt that had the phrase (no lives matter) written on it in black letters, just like Eric's natural selection shirt. He also wrote "zero day" on his airsoft pistol, which is is film based off Columbine. In his manifesto, he directly quotes Eric. His manifesto is also tilted "my wrath" which could possibly be a reference to Dylan's shirt. What do you guys think?

edit: i meant to say "partially" and not "particularly" in the title, and it's not letting me change it. my bad, guys.
