Physical media is always teetering on the edge of consoom, but I firmly believe that steelbooks are pure consumption.

Steelbooks are mostly consumption being abused by the companies that release movies only steelbooks. I strive to have the best quality version of a movie and give away or sells the lesser versions I have. I can count on one hand the amount of doubles I have as the same films often come on boxsets like the Arrow Psycho boxset and Alfred Hitchcock boxset.

In have i think one steelbook from a movie I absolutely love (master and commander far side of the world). I think they only made one steelbook for it, the fact they even made this many steelbooks for john wick is crazy

This is the guy who the chair in the hotel is for.
He doesn’t even watch them, just streams them to “prevent” them from being damaged 😭😭

There's five, with one being set in the world of John Wick, but yeah that's way too many for five movies

I collect movies for a while now and always hated when the only available option was a steelbook since they scratch so easily and often are more expensive than regular cases. I was kinda surprised to see that some people seem to collect steelbooks exclusively. I really don’t get it. If you want something for your money at least get a mediabook. But who am I to say what other people should spend their money on.

I never understand why people are into steelbooks. I have two which I only bought as the films are exclusive to those or that is the only way to get the special features.

steelbooks are the most useless edition of any version. its just a shitty tin box. you are paying extra for a shitty tin box. a mass produced shitty tin box. printed in large quantities in mega factories in china.
you are not buying limited edition. you are buying extra trash lmao

I like the regular Blu-Rays with the slipcovers more tbh. Steelbooks are weird because a lot of the time they don’t even have the title of the movie on them.

People treat everything mass produced like it's art these days, then complain handmade art is too expensive.

And they get upset when their trash turns out to be worthless.

Eventually. Until the circle jerk impresses their friends and pays for a shitty vacation.

Tbf I'd rather have a steelbook for a disc rather than a plastic case as it's overall just more durable
I only own like 5 that came with preorders or were bought 2nd hand

I just recently got into steelbooks and was waiting for a post from that subreddit to appear here.

I think steelbooks are fine, I make sure to try and get the steelbook edition of a game I buy when I can, I really like my physical media. I plan to mount the steelbooks and use them as wall art. Now with that being said, there are only 4 John wick movies plus a spin off…so collecting every version is pretty over the top

Should buy the John wick collection from drift. My car apparently smells like John wick.

In general all action movies are very bleak and you should not spend much time other than the cheap thrill that you get during watching.

This is a stupid take. People can enjoy any movie they want. The issue isn't the film, it's the needless consumption of countless physical copies...

As long as theyre buying physical lol. I dont gaf about steelbooks but I am a big physical media guy so if people like this help support physical media I don't mind.

At least an effort was made and they didn't just buy 50pcs of the very same steelbook

u/UrMgrSays4U2ShutUp 3d ago
I don’t know much about these but… why do so many variations even exist? Surely there’s no reason other than “for some reason nerds will buy every single variant we produce” right?
1
u/forever_endtimes 3d ago
Is that not reason enough for them to make them?
2
u/spicybright 3d ago
It shouldn't be, it's just landfill garbage releasing the same thing 50 times
2
u/forever_endtimes 3d ago
Yes I don't think it's a good worthwhile thing to produce but the guy I was replying to seemed confused as to why "we could sell this for money and people will buy" is not enough reason for THEM to make this shit

u/phvntmlogic 3d ago
They’re all sealed btw the guy doesn’t even use them
