What if your county owned the power instead of waiting for a data center?

Small modular reactors.

For the past 70 years reactors were made for each individual power plan, to spec. SMRs are factory made, from common parts, reducing per-unit costs. The plants are designed for expansion in mind so you can easily add additional reactors and increase capacity as time goes on.

As a transplant from Nebraska I think public power is a fantastic idea and that every state would benefit by transitioning to a similar system.

Any laws proposed will be obsolete technologically by the time that are passed. Politicians would have locked us into the model T and the Wright flyer. A data center doesn't use anymore water than a golf course, maybe even less if it's closed loop. Every county needs excess cheap electricity for it's citizens and to attract business. Picture a data center driving up demand for electricity by 10% and politicians doing their job and enabling the build out of that infrastructure. Now you have excess electricity you can call upon in case of a natural disaster that could be routed to hospitals and other vitals in an emergency.i just did my taxes. I consulted AI at least 3 times. Let's not fix it so we only get our information from China
