From an emailed ad campaign 4 years ago. Evocative, I suppose. Why couldn't they just say "Autumn"?

Because this is America 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🔫🔫🔫 and that would be a British word, or something

They're both British. Just like soccer and football. They'll tell you that soccer was just said by the upperclass and it died out naturally, but they only stopped saying it because they thought it was American.

Smug British people claim that the US doesn’t use one word or another because they think it sounds British, yet they purposely modified their whole accent to distinguish them from Americans. Plus they still have royalty.

Why do they use fall, it’s just wrong. Autumn is way better in my opinion

Technically, it's just right. Leaves fall during fall. As do temperatures.

I like both terms but I do prefer “fall”. I also hear plenty of Americans saying autumn, too.

The British don't know the pure thrill of saying,"See you next fall!" after you trip someone.

2

u/I_find_life_good 15d ago

We don’t really trip people over

8

u/AutomaticAccident 15d ago

I don't believe that. It's a key part of soccer/football.

3

u/I_find_life_good 15d ago

It’s called FOOTBALL

5

u/AutomaticAccident 15d ago

The Gridiron football or the other football or the kind called that in the UK or the Gaelic football or the Australian kind or?

You gotta specify because there are so many kinds of football and all of them are originally British.

u/AutomaticAccident 15d ago

or do you mean the CFB or the NFL or NCAACFB or

We say "Have a nice trip?" instead.

Take autumn to new heights.

There. Hire me.

Because elevate is a loose antonym for fall... it just doesn't work with the context. The skyscraper with those words makes me think of someone jumping to their death

As is so often the case when people say things like that, they could have. Sometimes it's not that the solution is hard, it's that you didn't notice there was a problem that needed one.

That didn't even occur to me, I was too stunned to make sense of it.

That's a poor choice for any tall building. I suspect a disgruntled intern who knew their work wouldn't be checked.

Using Autumn would confuse Americans too much.

25

u/ibrasome 16d ago

I was confused until I realised I simply don't speak American

15

u/gaberdine 15d ago

Someone forgot

13

u/360900th 16d ago

That's gotta be intentional

u/McTyguy 9d ago

How did this pass legal? Three people looked at it and said 'yeah, totally normal'?

2

u/Digital--Sandwich 15d ago

Oh!…. Ohhhhhhhhh…

2

u/X_Starchild_X 15d ago

I don't even understand what they were trying to say here 🥀

2

u/Gaminglion2001 13d ago

tf did they think that looked like?

1

u/ILikeBubblesinMyWine 11d ago

lmao at that double meaning. awkward phrasing for sure. 0/10.

1

u/Uncannyvall3y 10d ago

Oh my God. HELLOOO!!!

u/PreCaffeinated 9d ago

Would you mind if I use this in a piece of content about bad design?

1

u/Rustymarble 9d ago

Not at all!

1

u/PreCaffeinated 9d ago

Thank you!! I'll make sure to screenshot w your name in it

2

u/Rustymarble 9d ago

All good! I didn't make it. Just captured the email 4 years ago.

I thought for sure that this must be a pre-9-11 ad that aged poorly until I read the comments. Like the ad of a guy pole vaulting over the twin towers and then falling down after he clears the towers.

It's been over 20 years, guys. And it's the name of a season.

I'm not saying we have to forget what happened, but does every single thing close to 9/11 have to be a problem? This is like a 3 out of 10 on an insensitivity scale.

u/Gumicsirkee 14d ago

2007.01.31 Never Forget

-5

u/Away_Abroad_7613 15d ago

It's not the name of a season. What are you on about.

6

u/AutomaticAccident 15d ago

Fall is the name of a season.

0

u/SpringyFingy 14d ago

Only for Americans, and we do not take lessons on words from Americans.

0

u/Gumicsirkee 14d ago

i's not, fall means to move downward from a higher position to a lower one, either by gravity or by losing your balance

1

u/AutomaticAccident 14d ago

Yes, but what is the other definition beyond that? It's a season. Another name is Autumn. Those are the same in the US though. Don't try to teach me my native language lol.

-1

u/Gumicsirkee 14d ago

oh, you are usa-ian, yeah, that explains the reduced brain activity and because of that, mixing up words

3

u/Hitmanhenk 14d ago

You are pretty sure of yourself while being absolutely wrong.

-1

u/Gumicsirkee 14d ago

Oh wow, what an amazing and insightful explanation you just wrote explaining why I'm wrong and you are right, why didn't I think of that, crazy

3

u/Hitmanhenk 13d ago

Like calling someone a usa ian with reduced Brian capacity screams you are an insightful person

1

u/Gumicsirkee 8d ago

Every day I buy and sell people like you! But no, I did not do that. But based on what I'm hearing here, someone may have.

2

u/CricketKingofLocusts 14d ago

The word "fall" comes from 16th and 17th century England.

1

u/Gumicsirkee 8d ago

"fall" is a word, it comes from peoples mouth and maybe immigration would like to know about you

5

u/Stampyboyz haha funny flair 15d ago

In the US, autumn is called fall.
